5.10 He's Our You

From Lostpedia
  2. "Well, at least one of you will be a man. Well done, Sayid." Sayid's Father
  3. Ben brings Sayid his sandwich, and a book, A Separate Reality, he says that he read it twice, it's good, Sayid says thank you, Ben asks if Richard sent him, asks he's his leader right, Sayid looks at the camera that is watching them, Ben says that it's just a camera, that they can see but they can't hear, Ben says that four years ago, he ran into the jungle, and Richard found him, he said he wanted to leave, that he wanted to join them, so he's been patient, and if Sayid is patient too, he thinks he can help him. From Lostpedia
  5. "Did Richard send you? [Sayid turns to look at young Ben.] Richard. He's your leader, right? [Sayid looks up towards the surveillance camera and makes a small nod in its direction.] It's just a camera. They can see, but they can't hear. Four years ago I ran away into the jungle and Richard found me. I said I wanted to leave. That I wanted to join you. So I've been patient. And if you're patient too, I think I can help you." Ben
  6. Moscow--man running through door, in apartment, someone is chasing him, he locks the door behind him, goes in another room, security code, opens a safe, Sayid busts the door down, points his gun at him, the man offers him money, Sayid shoots him anyway, with a silencer on the gun, he leaves, it's night, he goes through a gate, Ben is waiting, Sayid says the man tried to bribe him, that it didn't work, Ben says of course it didn't, Sayid asks where to now, Ben says nowhere, that he's done, Sayid asks what he means, Ben says they're done, Andropov was the last one, he says that Sayid has taken care of everyone who posed a threat to his friends, he says that it's been a pleasure working with him, Sayid says so that's it, he killed all those people for him, and now he's just walking away, Ben says he didn't kill them for him, that he's the one who asked for all those names, Ben says that there's no one else in Widmore's organization that they need to go after, he says congratulations, mission accomplished, Sayid asks what does he do now, Ben says that he supposes he should go live his life, he tells Sayid that he's free. From Lostpedia
  7. "So, that's it? I killed all those people for you, and now you're just walking away?" Sayid "You didn't kill them for me, Sayid. You're the one that asked for their names. 12. "These people trust me! I've built a life here--and a pretty good one. I let you go, all that goes away. So you got yourself a choice, Chief. Either you cooperate and join the party in DHARMAville, or you're on your own." Sawyer

From Lostpedia

  17. "What makes you think I want to?" Sayid "Because, Sayid... to put it simply, you're capable of things that most other men aren't. Every choice you've made in your life, whether it was to murder or to torture, it hasn't really been a choice at all, has it? It's in your nature. It's what you are. You're a killer, Sayid." Ben

  35. "Because...when I woke up in the jungle and I realized I was back on this island...I felt there was no purpose to it. But now I know exactly why I'm here." Sayid
  36. Sawyer goes to Kate's house, asks her why she came back, he says that Sayid just fulled his ears with some crap up his damn purpose, and he wants to know, why they came back, Kate says she doesn't know why everyone else came back, she just knows why she did, they hear a noise.

  40. "I really hate it here. If I let you out...will you take me with you, to your people?" Ben "Yes, Ben, I will. That's why I'm here." Sayid
  41. At LAX, attention passengers, Ajira Airways Flight 316, Sayid with Ilana, asks her if she's sure they're going to Guam, where else would they be going, Sayid sees Hurley and Jack, asks her a favor, sees Kate waiting to board the plane, he asks can they get the next plane, he says that he's very superstitious when it comes to flying, Ilana says she'll buy him a rabbits foot at the gift shop, Sayid sees them all on the plane, Ilana says that she's sorry about the handcuffs, but at least they're in business, they hear someone say wait up, please, thank you for not closing, Sayid sees Ben get on the plane, asks Ilana if she's working for Benjamin Linus, she asks who that is, Sayid says that he's a liar, a manipulator, a man who allowed his daughter to be murdered to save himself, a monster just short of genocide, Ilana asks why she would work for someone like that, Sayid says that he did.
  42. "Are you working for Benjamin Linus?" Sayid "What?" Ilana "Are you working for him?" Sayid "Who's Benjamin Linus?" Questions:
  1. What happened to Sayid's family?
  2. How long was Ben supposed to wait after his first meeting with Richard?
  3. What danger did Widmore's associates pose to the Oceanic 6?
  4. Who is Ilana working for? What is her purpose?
  5. What authority did she have to handcuff Sayid and escort him to Guam?
  6. Why does Ilana put Sayid on the plane that's going to the island?
  7. Why is Ilana going to the island?
  8. Does Ben remember that Sayid shot him?
Favorites:
  1. "I brought another sandwich for him. Chicken salad this time." Ben "Yeah, I don’t think it's the menu. He's not eating. Save yourself the trouble kid." Phil
  2. "I think your bacon's ready." Sawyer
  3. "Take your lunch, Phil." Sawyer
  4. "A twelve-year-old Ben Linus brought me a chicken salad sandwich. How do you think I'm doing?" Sayid "Sweet kid, huh?" Sawyer
  5. "Fresh off the griddle. And don't forget to try the dipping sauces. They really bring out the ham." Hurley
  6. "Together as... They live together. Like, not as roommates. You know, together like you guys were. I thought it was kind of obvious. I mean, who couldn't see that comin'?" Hurley
  7. "You know what I can't figure out? Is how the hell you got caught. You hostiles are supposed to be the kings of the jungle. And how dumb are you that you got captured by these idiots?" Roger "(laughs) And yet you're the one who mops up after them." Sayid
  8. "John Locke is dead. I think he was murdered." Ben

  18. "Whoa! Where'd you learn to do that?" Ben
Notes:
  1. We have never seen Sayid as a child, nor any of his family before this episode.
  2. In One of Them, we are told that Sayid's commanding officer was the head of a Chemical Warfare Battalion in the North, and that he personally supervised Sarin gas on a village where Sayid had relatives living. I always wondered about Sayid's family because they are almost never mentioned.
  3. Some people were bothered by Sayid's sudden childhood flashback. It may seem quite ridiculous that Sayid's brother refused to kill a chicken, because obviously it's food for them, but I don't think that is the point. The point, however, is that some people have it in them to kill and some people don't. Sayid's brother obviously did not possess that quality. Sayid showed at a young age that he did. This illustrates how and why Sayid has it in him to kill or torture when he becomes a man. If it was just for food, obviously his father could have killed the damn chicken himself.
  4. Ben first met Richard Alpert in the jungle in The Man Behind the Curtain.
  5. Cool hat, Ben. Very... Russian?
  6. That psychopath, Sawyer? Really? Psychopath? That's how you'd describe Oldham?
  7. Hurley is clearly speaking on behalf of the audience when he asks who didn't see a relationship between Sawyer and Juliet coming.
  8. As much as young Ben creeps me out, you can clearly see, per example his father, Roger Linus, how he got that way.
  9. Really, Ben, you think John Locke was murdered?
  10. Sayid is such the ladies man off-island. Even when he's sad.
  11. Radzinsky is SO ANNOYING. Shut up about the damn model!
  12. Naveen Andrews' acting is superb in the drug scene. Every time he starts laughing and says "You used exactly enough!" I start cracking up. His face and the way he says it is so hilarious.
  13. This episode is one of the few times I actually even remember Sayid smiling, let alone, I can't ever remember him laughing like that. The closest thing I remember is "We've got a bar!" in The Pilot, Part 2.
  14. Man, no doubt Sayid is a ladies man, but his relationships with women REALLY don't turn out well.
  15. You have to think that, for just a second, maybe Sayid thought that Ilana liked it rough.
  16. This is probably the worst episode of Season Five, though not because of the acting, or because it's a Sayid-centric episode. In fact, Sayid is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite original survivor of Oceanic Flight 815. He's deep, dark, and his stories are compelling. He's a killer with a heart of gold. In fact, Naveen Andrews' acting is probably one of the few things that actually held this episode together for me, and gave me a few shining moments. However, it's the story-telling that is lacking here. I'm sorry, but it has to be said. Oldham is not their Sayid. He's not even a damn torturer. He's a guy that gives LSD to someone to make them tell the "truth," which, by the way, I've done LSD, and I don't recall it being a frakking truth-serum. If Sayid and Oldham had a torturer's showdown, Sayid would DESTROY him in seconds. He would snap that dude's neck without anyone even noticing. How in the world could they even begin to compare this one-dimensional character to Sayid? Oldham never even thought to torture Sayid to get the truth out of him. He could not possibly compare to the brilliance of Sayid as a character. Nope, he's not your Sayid. He's your sugar cube guy. There. Rant over. Oldham=LAME.
  17. By the way, taking LSD doesn't last like 30 minutes. It lasts FOREVER.
  18. I remember how shocking it was when the end of this episode came. I personally thought that Sayid shooting young Benjamin Linus would be a game-changer, but now, I realize that it probably always happened.
  19. I still don't care if Ben is a little kid. I would shoot him too.
