5.13 Some Like it Hoth

A microwave reads 3:16, a man says I'm telling you it's a steal at 400, in an apartment, he asks if a woman has to check with her husband, she says that it's just her, a boy calls his mommy, comes in, asks if he can have a quarter for the vending machine, the mother says I told you to wait by the pool, the man says that he thought it was just you, she says that she meant her husband was out of the picture, that it's just her and her son, the man says he doesn't know, that most of the other tenants, they don't like noise, woman says he's very quiet, man says he's going to need two months up front, she gives the boy a quarter, he leaves, she tells him no running, says you hear me, Miles, the boy walks around, a car alarm goes off, he goes to the vending machine, but he has a vision, a feeling, he goes to apartment #4, touches the door, looks down at a rabbit, takes the key out from underneath, opens the door, looks inside, he yells for his mom, mommy, help, they go in the apartment, a man is dead on the floor, the landlord says it's Mr. Vonner, Miles' mom asks what were you doing in here, Miles says that man was all alone, that he was scared, and his chest hurt, he kept calling out for Kimberly, the landlord says that was his wife, that she died last year, asks Miles how he would know that, Miles says that he heard him, mom says what are you talking about, Miles says he's still talking right now, mom says he's dead, Miles says he told her, he could hear him.

Sawyer tells Kate to go back and find Juliet, see what they know so far, he's going to find Sayid, going to do his best to cover it up, in case she hasn't noticed, he's head of security, Kate leaves.
Horace goes into security, asks Miles where's La Fleur, Miles says he's out looking for escaped prisoner, that he must be out of range, tried to reach him on his walkie, Horace says he needs La Fleur, but he's going to have to ask Miles for a favor, Horace says that he's going to bring him into the circle of trust, asks Miles can I trust you, Miles says absolutely, Horace says take this out to Radzinsky, at grid 334, he says that he's going to give him something in return, to bring it back to him with no questions asked, Horace asks Miles does he understand, Miles says they're not supposed to be in 334, he asks isn't that hostile territory, Horace says welcome to the circle of trust, Miles doesn't get the tape, he leaves in a DHARMA van, drives, Radzinsky comes out from nowhere, stops the van, points a rifle at Miles, Radzinsky says what are you doing out here, that he was expecting La Fleur, Miles says La Fleur is busy, that Horace sent him instead, that he's in the circle of trust, Radzinsky says to get out, Miles says he's supposed to give him this, hands him a package, and says that Horace said he had something for him, Radzinsky whistles, calls someone out, he opens the package, men come out of the jungle with a body on a stretcher, Miles asks what happened to him, Radzinsky says he had an accident, Miles asks what kind of accident, Radzinsky says that he fell into a ditch, Miles looks at the body, sees a hole in the man's head, he asks if the ditch had a gun, Radzinsky says it doesn't matter what happened, because knowing that is not his job, that his job is to do what he tells him to, the men cover up body, put it into the back of the van, Radzinsky says to take him back to Horace now, Miles, Miles gets in, then looks at the body in the back of the van, opens up the body bag to see a man, Miles says okay, asks the body, so what really happened. Knocking on a door, Apartment #7, Miles, a teenager, dressed punk, a woman answers, Miles says that he needs to see her, the woman lets him in, a dog is barking outside, Miles' mom is very sick, she looks like she's dying, possibly of cancer, she's in a hospital bed, really sick, losing her hair, Miles sits down next to her, Miles says mom, it's me, she wakes, she says Miles, Miles says that he's sorry that he couldn't make it by sooner, she says it's okay, that he's here now, she asks why did you come, Miles, he says he needs her to tell him why he's this way, how he does the things he does, and he needs to know why she won't talk to him about his father, she says because he never cared about them, never cared about him, Miles says needs to know where he is, she says it doesn't matter where, Miles says it does matter, she says please, Miles says that he has a right to know, she says that he's dead, your father, kicked us out when he was just a baby, he didn't want anything to do with us, so the less you knew about him, the better, Miles says why didn't she just tell him, she says because it was over, your dad has been dead a long time, Miles asks where's his body, she says that it's somewhere he could never go.

Miles back at security, Horace on the phone, he says Pierre, if it was about the electromagnetism, they need to know, he says that he just got back, I'll send him out with it right away, Horace hangs up, asks Miles did he bring the package, Miles says package, you mean the corpse, Horace says yeah, now he needs him to bring it to Dr. Chang down at The Orchid, Miles says listen, he's security, if he just needs someone to drive a van, can't someone from the Motor Pool do it, Horace says since La Fleur decided to disappear, he's all he's got, so just bring it out to Dr. Chang, and they'll all call it a day, Miles leaves.
Hurley is outside, putting stuff in Miles' van, Miles says he can't, Hurley says he just signed it out, asks Miles where he's going, he says to The Orchid, Hurley says he is too, that he made sandwiches for the crew, ham and cheese, asks if Miles wants one, says and he made his secret garlic mayo, Miles says he's waiting for the neext van, Hurley asks why, he says they're going to the same place, why don't they carpool, he says that it'll help them with global warming, which hasn't happened yet, so maybe they can prevent it, he says wait a second, aks Miles if he's on some kind of secret mission, Miles says to just get in.
Juliet at the Infirmary, Kate comes in, Juliet asks how'd it go, Kate says they gave him to the others, Juliet asks if anyone saw them, Kate says she doesn't think so, Juliet asks did James help, Kate says yes, thank you so much for sending him, Roger comes in with a crate of things from The Staff, says he got there as soon as he could, he's out of breath, notices that Ben is no longer there, an empty bed, he says where's Ben, asks did he, Juliet says no, that she's so sorry, she was gone for ten minutes, she doesn't know what happened, Roger says she's his doctor, she's supposed to watch him, Juliet says she doesn't know, Roger says he's going to security, he leaves, Juliet tells Kate, well, here we go.

On island, Roger drinks a beer on the swing-set, Kate sees him, decides to join him, says hey Roger, asks if he's okay, Roger says let me see, well my son got shot, and now he's disappeared, so I think I'm pretty far form okay, Kate says you know I'm sure things are going to work out, Roger say well thanks for the pep talk, Kate drinks a beer with him, says she just has a feeling he's going to be okay, Roger seems surprised by this, asks what she means, a feeling, Kate says she just doesn't think that he should give up hope, Roger asks if she knows something, does she know what happened to his son, Kate says no she doesn't, Roger says wait a minute, why is she so interested in his son, Kate says she's just trying to help, Roger says if she wants to help, why doesn't she just mind her own business, Kate leaves. In the DHARMA van, Miles and Hurley listen to Love Will Keep Us Together, Hurley writes in his notebook, says he doesn't know why Miles won't just admit it, that he can trust him, he talks to lots of dead people, Miles says so he has conversations with them, like they're his pals, Hurley says sure all the time, sometimes they even play chess, Miles says he actually sees them, Hurley says why wouldn't he, Miles says because that's not how it works, Hurley calls him out, says he wouldn't know how it works if he didn't do it, Miles says what he can do has nothing to do with chatting with ghosts, that it's a feeling, a sense, when somebody's dead, their brain stops functioning, it's just who they were and how they died, Hurley says that's not how it works for him, Miles says good, he's happy for him, Hurley says he's just jealous his powers are better than his, they're here, Miles says shut the hell up and deliver is damn sandwiches.

Miles tells Naomi she did say she was taking him out to dinner, Naomi says no, she said she was taking him to a restaurant, they go into a restaurant kitchen, which is closed, Miles says want to tell him what's back here, Naomi says his audition, there's a body on the table, Naomi unzips it, Miles says look, whatever she has going on here, this isn't really his thing, Naomi says from what she understands, if the price is right, this is exactly his thing, she tosses Miles some money, Naomi asks so what can he tell her about this man, Miles goes over to the body, he focuses on it, gets his feeling, he says that his name was Felix, he was on his way to deliver something to a guy named Widmore, Naomi asks deliver what, Miles says a bunch of papers, photos, pictures, of empty graves, a purchase order for an old airplane, Miles says so did he pass, Naomi says she's leading an expedition to an island, and on that island is a man that will be very difficult to find, that's why she needs him, Miles says why, Naomi says this island has a number of deceased individuals residing on it, as is this man was the one responsible for the deceased, we believe they can supply valuable information about his whereabouts, Miles says as much as hunting down a mass murderer sounds really safe, he's going to pass, Naomi says her employer is willing ot pay him $1.6 Million, Miles says when do we leave. Miles and Hurley, Hurley has a sandwich, says so anyway, Miles says he doesn't want to talk about it, Hurley says are you kidding me, how weird is it that your dad is that dude from all those movies, only back then, he was called Marvin Candle, asks if that was like a stage name, Miles says he doesn't want to talk about it, Hurley asks if he doesn't want to talk about it, then why did he tell him, asks how long he's known he was his dad, Miles says the third day they were there, he was in line at the cafeteria and his mother got in line behind him, that was his first clue, Hurley says but all the DHARMA dudes end up dead, Miles says he can't save them, that they're going to get killed no matter what he does, so why bother, Pierre Chang shows up.
"But all those DHARMA dudes end up dead. Don't you wanna... save him?" Hurley "I can't save him! They're gonna get killed no matter what I do, so why bother?" Miles
Pierre says he needs Miles to take him to Radzinsky at the worksite, immediately, he says you, Hurley, if you say a word, Hurley says polar bear poop, got it, Miles asks what happened to the body, Pierre says what body, the three of them get in the van.
Jack cleaning a classroom, Roger comes in, says this room is on his rounds, why is he here, Jack says he figured he'd cover for him, after what happened to his son, Roger says which part, that he got shot, or that someone kidnapped him from the Infirmary, Jack says then what is he doing there, Roger says what else is he going to do, sit around and pray that those idiots find his boy, Roger says so he can get out of there, knocks things over, Roger says he came in here a couple of a days ago with that woman, Kate, Jack says yeah, Roger says you know her at all, Jack says why, Roger says she has some kind of weird thing for his kid, first she shows up at the Infirmary and gives his kid blood, and then when he goes missing, she comes to him and says don't worry, he's going to be okay, Roger says I'm going to tell you something, I'm beginning to think that she's got something to do with this, he says that he should go to Horace, report her, he asks Jack what do you think, Jack says he thinks that he's had a hell of a day, and that's giving him a very good excuse to go out and get drunk, and maybe that's put some crazy ideas into his head, he says that he knows that woman, Kate, that she's his friend, and she would never do anything to hurt his son, Roger says sure, he leaves.

In the DHARMA van, Hurley says that he's new here, Dr. Chang, asks what exactly it is he does down at The Orchid, Pierre says it's classified, Hurley says really, that he can't tell anyone, not even his wife, Pierre says no, Hurley asks what about his kids, Pierre says he has a three month old son, so no, Hurley says congrats, asks what's his name, Pierre says Miles, Hurley says small world, his name is Miles too, right Miles, Miles says yeah, Hurley asks so are you a fan of Jazz, Dr. Chang, like Miles Davis, Pierre says no, that his wife is, he says he likes Country, Miles scoffs at this, Hurley says so they've both been there three years, that they must be pretty tight by now, Miles says that Dr. Chang and him don't exactly travel in the same circles, Pierre says he wasn't aware there were circles, Hurley says great, that they should all get together for a beer some time, he says how awesome would that be, Pierre says to stop here, he gets out of the van, he opens a hidden gate camouflaged in jungle, he gets back in the van, they go in. Inside, there is a construction site, Chang gets out, says Miles doesn't need to wait, that he'll get a ride back with Radzinsky, Hurley asks what is this place, what's up with all the secrecy, Miles says he doesn't know and doesn't care, Hurley looks, he sees the hatch door, a guy asks what the serial number that goes on hatch lid is, another guy says it's 4 8 15 16 23, can't read the last number, says it's smudged, Hurley says that it's 42, Hurley is freaked out, Miles asks how the hell he knew that, Hurley says because they're building their hatch, Miles asks what hatch, Hurley says the one that crashed their plane. Miles gets a taco, a van drives up next to him, a man says hey Miles, Miles asks do I know you, they get out, take him, put him in the van, drive off, Miles, my name is Bram, Miles says he owes him a fish taco, Bram says sorry about that, but his apartment is being watched, and they had to try their best to talk him out of working for Charles Widmore, Miles says he has no idea who that is, Bram says he's the man that chartered the boat he'll be getting on next week, and my friend, you don't want to be getting on that boat, he asks Miles do you know what lies in the shadow of the statue, Miles says no, he can't say that he does, Bram says he's not ready to go tot hat island, but if he goes with them, all those things he spent all his life trying to find out, he'll know, he'll know who he is, why it is he has a gift, and most of all, he'll know about his father, Miles says he doesn't know where he's been getting his intel, but he stopped caring about this father a long time ago, but he says that what he does care about is money, he says tell you what, if he wants him to pass on going to the island, it's going to have to cost him double, $3.2 million, Bram says they're not paying him anything, that all the money int he world isn't going to fill that empty hole inside him, Miles says that's sad isn't it, Bram says to toss him, they throw him out of van, Bram says that he's playing for the wrong team, Miles says what team are you on, Bram says the one that's going to win. Miles in DHARMA van, Hurley says that hatch that they're building, there's going to be an accident, and then they're going to have to build a computer with a button you have to push every 108 minutes so the world doesn't end, Hurley says so your dad, is he around, you know, where we came from, the future, Miles says no, Hurley says then this is kind of awesome, Miles says how is that awesome, Hurley says because then he gets to hangout with him, he can get to know him better, and don't bother thanking him, but he was totally down for that beer, Hurley says maybe he can hold baby him, or he can change his own diaper, Miles stops short, he says to listen up, because they're only going to have this conversation once, okay, Miles says he doesn't want to hangout wit his dad, he doesn't want to get to know him better and stuff, Hurley asks why not, asks did he beat him up when he as little, Miles says he wasn't even around when he was little, that he never even knew him, until now, Miles asks why am I even telling you this, Hurley says because he's in pain, Miles says he's not in pain, that his father is dead, he's gone, he never cared about him, and nothing he can do will ever change that, Hurley says but he's not gone, they just dropped him off, Miles says let's see what's going on with you, takes his notebook, gets out of the van, he reads it, "EXTERIOR, HOTH, a little spy robot thingy zips through the atmosphere, and crashes into the snowy planet below. That's when Chewbacca shows up and blasts it away with his crossbow laser. He shakes his fury fist in the sky in triumph. CHEWBACCA--Raaar." Hurley says it's furry fist, that he needs a spell-check, Miles asks what the hell is this, Hurley says he's writing The Empire Strikes Back, Miles says what, Hurley says it's 1977, so Star Wars just came out, and pretty soon, George Lucas is going to be looking for a sequel, he says that he's seen Empire like 200 times, so he figured he'd make life easier, and send him the script, with a couple of improvements, Miles says that has got to be the stupidest thing he's ever heard, Hurley says oh Yeah, well at least he's not scared to talk to his own dad.
"That hatch they're building? There's gonna be an accident, then they're gonna have to build a computer with a button you have to push so the world doesn't end." Hurley
"So your dad... is he around... you know, when we came from? The future?" Hurley "No." Miles "Well, then this is kind of awesome for you, huh?" Hurley "How is it awesome?!" Miles "Because you get to hang out with him, you know, get to know him better and stuff." Hurley
"Listen up, 'cause we're only gonna have this conversation once. Okay? I don't want to "hang out" with my dad. I don't want to "know him better"... and stuff." Miles "Why not? Did he beat you up when you were little or something?" Hurley "He wasn't even around when I was little, you dimwit! I never knew him, until now. Why am I even telling you this?" Miles "'Cause you're in pain and you need to let it out." Hurley "I'm not in pain! It doesn't matter. My father is dead! He's gone! Notes:

Now we finally know why Miles asked Ben for $3.2 million.
All of the exchanges between Miles and Hurley as of late have been brilliant.
Miles had a punk phase. It all makes sense now.
It's nice to see that Miles has a human side and a conscience, and this episode also explained a lot of why he is the way that he is.
I love the title of this episode. It's a big step up from the past couple of titles.
Daniel Faraday is back! Now where the hell was he?
The apartment where Miles finds the dead body was #4.
Hearing dead people constantly must be pretty annoying.

We finally find out that it was Widmore who faked the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 and not Ben who did it, which was a cool find.
I love how Jack has no purpose whatsoever now.
Miles was disgusted that his father likes country music.
I think Bram and Ilana are working for a new Dharma Initiative, which explains the question "What lies in the shadow of the statue?," which was much like "What did one snowman say to the other snowman?," a code to figure out if someone is one of them.

Even though not much happened in this episode, and was just kind of a fun one, I enjoyed it.

4.09 The Shape of Things to Come

Keamy calls out for Alex to be brought to him, he tells Ben to come out or he'll kill her, Ben says he wants to present a counter proposal, for he and his friends to leave and go back to helicopter, to forget they were ever on the island.
Keamy tells Alex to say goodbye, she talks to Ben, says he killed Karl and her mother, begs him, Ben says it's under control, that she's not his daughter, that he stole her as a baby from an insane woman, that she means nothing to him, she's a pawn, says he's not coming out of the house, to go ahead and do it, and Keamy kills Alex execution style, Ben is completely shocked, because Keamy called his bluff.From Lostpedia

Notes:

Ben shows up in Tunisia, which is the same place that Charlotte found the polar bear bones during her flashback in Confirmed Dead.
The painting seen in Charles Widmore's bedroom is the same one seen at the auction in The Constant.
The scene with Ben and Charles Widmore is very symbolic. Ben is seen in the dark, and Widmore is seen in the light. This is yet another representation of black and white, and could perhaps be a clue, especially if you've seen the end of Season 6.
I remember how mind-bending this episode was when it first aired. You could not believe that they actually killed Alex right in front of Ben, and that he just stood there and let her die. I remember feeling complete and utter shock in that moment.
The scene where Sawyer is going to get Claire and all the random log carrying guys die is hilarious.
This episode shows a lot of guts. My favorite episodes are when the writers take risks and don't assume that I'm too stupid to understand what's going on. I love when they stay complicated and don't spoon-feed me details. Give me the benefit of the doubt.
When Ben arrives in the Sahara Desert and the Arab men on horseback find him, they have a conversation. One notes that there is no trail, the other man wonders where he came from, and asks if he fell from the sky.
Finally, Claire mentions Charlie. What took you so long?
I like how Sawyer is taking charge in this episode and that he's worried about Claire.
Ben's flashforward takes place on October 24, 2005, which is one year, one month and two days after the crash of Oceanic Flight 815.
According to Wikipedia: On October 24,1593 a man named Gil Pérez, who was a Spanish Solider serving the Filipino Guardia Civil, suddenly appeared in the Plaza Mayor in Mexico City.
Any woman that hooks up with Sayid must have a death wish. Every woman he loves dies. Poor Sayid. No wonder why he has to kill people. He's just making it even.
The scene were Alex dies is so sad. The last thing she hears before she dies is that she means nothing to the man she thought was her father, and this is after having to go through the death of her mother who she just met after 16 years and her boyfriend dying right in front of her. That scene is just heart-wrenchingly painful to watch.
The Smoke Monster scene is friggin' awesome. Except for the fact that no one really dies from it.
From Lostpedia: The symbols on Ben's secret room door appear to be hieroglyphs that are determinative signs in Egyptian, a basic translation of these hieroglyphs is "to summon protection."
If you go to If the Earth Were A Sandwich you can see that Tunisia is on the opposite side of the world from the South Pacific, where the Island is, which could be why Ben transports to the Sahara Desert, in theory.
The final scene with Ben and Widmore is one of the two scenes in LOST history that hasn't been shot in Hawaii. It was shot in England to accommodate Alan Dale.
In a deleted scene for this episode, Ben is seen in the Sahara Desert after he kills the men and steals their horse, retrieving money hidden under a rock. When he arrives, he looks around to see if anyone is there, and another Ben is seen in the background laying in the sand, much like when Ben was transported there. The shot can be seen at the 0:25-0:27 mark.

4.06 The Other Woman

Juliet is waiting, Harper Stanhope comes in, says that today is just a meet and greet so they can get to know eachother, she's a therapist, Juliet has been there 1 week, says she doesn't like being treated like a celebrity, Harper says she's no different from anyone else there, Tom comes in, says that Ben wants to see Juliet. Ben gives Juliet a house, says she's there helping them with very important research, gives her all the opera classics on CD, so she feels at home.
Charlotte and Daniel have disappeared, Jack is looking for them, he says all their stuff is gone, he doesn't have the satellite phone, Sun says that Jin saw them going into the jungle, that Jack said they were friends, but Jack is worried, they go after them.
Juliet hears the whispers, turns and sees Harper in the jungle. From Lostpedia
Harper says she came to deliver a message from Ben, that Charlotte and Daniel are heading to The Tempest, to deploy the gas, and everyone will die, Harper says that Ben wants her to go, Juliet asks how Ben could know this when he's a prisoner, but Harper says that he's exactly where he wants to be, that she needs to stop them.

Juliet is crying in a medical supply room, Goodwin comes in, says he was at the power station, his arm pressed against a transformer, Juliet takes a look at him, Goodwin says they lost Henrietta, she died this morning, that's it's not her fault, Juliet says that pregnant women keep dying on the island, that she was brought there to help fix that, but Goodwin says no one expects Juliet to fix the problem overnight.
He suggests she talk to Harper, but Juliet says that Harper hates her, that she gets the feeling she's a mean, spiteful person, Goodwin tells Juliet that Harper is his wife, he says that if she needs to talk, he's around, Juliet asks him not to tell her what she said and she won't tell anyone that he lied about how he hurt his arm, that's it's a chemical burn. Juliet looks into a microscope, she tells Ben that in the 2nd trimester, the mother's immune system is triggered, the white blood cell count plummets, the immune system turns on the fetus, Ben looks at the microscope, Goodwin shows up for lunch, makes an excuse that he just had an extra sandwich, but Juliet has an appointment with Harper.
Harper asks Juliet what she thinks of Ben, she says he's great, smart, intense, challenging, he's been good to her, Harper says of course he has, she looks just like her, that she's close to Goodwin, her husband, asks her when they started sleeping together, that she followed them, watched them, that if she continues their relationship, there will be consequences, that Ben will hurt him.
Claire asks Locke, who's killing and skinning a rabbit, about Miles, says she wants to talk to him, find out who they are, why they're not rescuing them, says that he killed one, Ben shot one, and now they're holding one prisoner, that it's not hard to understand why they think they're hostile, Locke says remember what Charlie said about them, Claire says that Charlie said whose boat it isn't, not whose boat it is.
Locke brings Ben some rabbit, who is reading Valis, Ben says Locke's the leader, now, people start questioning, they're going to get angry, says that he always has a plan, Locke asks if it involves him raising $3.2 million, Ben says they have shared interests, a common enemy, not the people on the freighter, but the one they work for, says to let him out, and he'll tell him everything, Locke says he doesn't trust him, Ben says he'll show him. We see the Oceanic 815 crash, Ben sends Goodwin.
Jack and Juliet find Kate, Juliet says she's going to get water, Kate says she was going to the beach, that she ran into them, Jack says they're headed to power station, Kate says they had gas masks, Juliet disappears.
Locke lets Ben out, wonders how he knows that Ben won't take off, but Ben says his people don't want him, they would've came for him already.

Charles Widmore, Ben says it's the man whose boat is parked off shore, he gets out of a limo, Ben says he's trying to find the island, there is a man in a blindfold, Ben says it's one of his people who got caught, says he doesn't know how Widmore knows about the island, Locke asks what he wants, Ben says that 3 months ago, in Gainesville, Florida, a Virgin Mary appeared in a patch of mold on the side of an old housing complex, when word got out, 5,000 people came to see it, that Locke survived an airline crash on the island, that now he can do jumping jacks, asks how many would come to see him, that Charles Widmore wants to exploit the island, that he'll do anything to possess it, in the video, Widmore beats the man he's captured, discovers the person video taping him, and the video cuts out.
"This is Charles Widmore. This is the man whose boat is parked offshore. This is the man that's been trying to find the Island." Ben (On the TV screen, a henchman removes a blindfolded man from the limousine trunk and walks him to the first man.) "Who's the man in the blindfold?" Ben gives Locke a file on Widmore, says that some of it is vague, some is guess work, some is concrete, says he didn't tell him sooner because it's a bargaining chip, Locke wants to know who the man on the boat is, Ben tells him to sit down for that one.
"Everything I know about Charles Widmore is in this file. Some of it's vague, some of it's guesswork, some of it's concrete. But this is everything, and now it's all yours. Kate and Jack track Juliet, Jack wants to know why she stayed, Kate says to find out if they knew about her, if she's a fugitive, she says that they do.

Juliet goes to Ben's for dinner, talks about Zack and Emma, says they're asking about their mother, Ben says they were on the list, Juliet says that Goodwin has been with the tail section 3 weeks, Ben says that he keeps making a case for Ana Lucia, that his assignment will be over soon, not to worry.
Juliet enters The Tempest, alarms are going off and red lights are flashing, an automated voice speaks over the loud speaker, Daniel is working at the computer inside, wearing a hazmat suit, a gas mask, Juliet approaches him.
"Warning. Computer switching to manual operation. This attempt is unauthorized. Warning--manual entry override denied. Warning--manual entry override denied. Repeated attempts to access storage tanks will result in contamination." Automated voice
Juliet tells Daniel to stop, but Daniel says he has to render it inert, Charlotte attacks Juliet, while Daniel continues to work on the computer, Charlotte says they're trying to disable it, Ben has used it before, but Daniel is successful, it works.
"We're trying to disable it before he can use it against us! Juliet, look me in the eye and tell me you are certain that Benjamin Linus wouldn't use this gas to kill everyone on this island! We know he's used it before. If you want to stop us, you're going to have to shoot us both." Charlotte
Juliet reads Shephard's file, Mikhail dropped it off, Juliet says he's a spinal surgeon, that he can help, she's surprised Ben isn't excited, he tells her to come with him.
Ben takes Juliet for a walk, shows her Goodwin's body, Juliet asks why he took her there, she says he knew it would happen, Ben says that she's his. From Lostpedia
"We don't know. There weren't any witnesses. I can only assume they found out he wasn't one of them. Guess I should've listened to you." Ben
"You knew this would happen. You sent him out here because you knew this would happen. (Cries) You wanted this! You wanted him to die! Why? Juliet "Why? You're asking me why? After everything I did to get you here, after everything I've done to keep you here, how can you possibly not understand...that you're mine? (Ben looks down, surprised at himself.) Kate and Jack show up at The Temple, Charlotte says they saved their lives, but Kate doesn't believe her, so Charlotte agrees to take her inside and explain.
Juliet says that Ben said to kill both of them, she tells Jack that she doesn't know how Ben got to her, but he knew who they were and where they were going, that they came to the island to wage war on Ben, and Ben is going to win.
Juliet tells Jack that he doesn't want to be near her, that Ben thinks she's his, and he knows how she feels about Jack, but Jack kisses her anyway, says he knows where to find him.
Hurley and Sawyer play horseshoes, Locke lets Ben out.

I'm not really a big fan of this episode, but I really like the Locke and Ben scenes.
Alright there, Kate. You're officially no longer Super Kate for getting bopped over the head with a gun.
Jack is so annoying in this episode.

4.04 Eggtown

Locke's eye opens, he's sleeping in Ben's bed, living in his house, gets up, makes eggs, cuts cantaloupe, goes into the basement, gives Ben his breakfast, the last 2 eggs, a book from his own bookshelf, Valis.
Locke wants Ben to tell him about the boat, his spy, Ben says Locke couldn't find the cabin, couldn't make contact with Jacob, that he's more lost than ever, Locke knows what he's trying to do, but gets upset anyway, storms out, throws the food tray against the wall, Ben knows that it worked, that he has Locke's number.

"I feel for you, John. I really do. You keep hitting dead ends. You couldn't find the cabin, you can't make contact with Jacob. You're so desperate to figure out what to do next, you're even asking me for help. So here we are, just like old times. Locke goes outside and slams his door, angry, Kate and Claire watch nearby, having coffee.
Sawyer comes by, Claire goes to get him some coffee, he wants Kate to move in, says he'll kick Hugo out, she says she's not moving in with him, that it's none of his business why she stayed, Sawyer knows she has a secret agenda.
Kate, wants to go through the back entrance, lawyer says front door, with her head held high, there's press outside, her lawyer says no statements, not answering any questions right now, in court, The People vs. Katherine Anne Austen, charged with fraud, arson, assault on a Federal Officer, assault with a deadly weapon, grand larceny, grand theft auto, murder in the 1st degree, she pleads not guilty, the DA wants her to be remanded into custody for the duration of the trial, her lawyer says she's been free pending arraignment, she's not a flight risk, she's one of the most recognizable faces in America, the Judge says she has a prior history, agrees with The People, remanded into Federal custody for the duration of the trial, she's taken into custody. Jin and Sun look at a map, for a new place to live, Jin suggests Albuquerque, New York, but Sun wants to go back to Seoul, Jin says he learned English for her, to go to America, but Sun wants to raise the baby at home.
Jack and Juliet get back to the beach, with Charlotte, Daniel, Jack introduces them, says their helicopter took Sayid and Desmond, that they can make arrangements to get off the island, tells them that Kate stayed with Locke.
Kate talks to Locke, wants to talk to Miles, but Locke says no, that it's not a democracy.
Kate gets information out of Hurley when he's bringing food to Miles, says Locke told her to take it to him, Hurley says Locke moved Miles to the boathouse.
Kate goes to the boathouse, asks Miles if he knows who she is, what she did, he says he'll tell her, but he wants something, Kate says she's not letting him go, but Miles says that he's exactly where he wants to be, that he'll tell her what she wants to know, if he gets one minute of someone's time, bring him, then he'll tell her everything he knows about her.
Kate in jail, her lawyer is trying to cut a deal, says she'll get a 15 year sentence, and she'll only serve 7, if she goes to trial it will be 20 years on each count, and she'll get a life sentence on the murder charge, she confessed to her mother, and she's their star witness, but Kate says put her on the stand, the lawyer is concerned about the DA crossing her, wants to make it about character, not what she did or didn't do, but who she is, wants to bring him in, but Kate says no, that they're not bringing her son in there.
Jack is trying to call the boat, they haven't heard from Sayid, Sun asks if Locke was right.
Claire tells Kate that Ben is in Locke's basement, asks her to help with Aaron, but Kate is uncomfortable, she tells Kate to try it sometime, Kate says she's good with Aaron, but Claire says the last thing she thought she'd be good at is being a mum.
Kate's lawyer brings a witness in, Jack, the Judge says he's only a character witness.
The lawyer asks Jack questions, how they met, Jack says on September 22, 2004, they were both passengers on Oceanic Flight 815, they crash-landed on an island in the South Pacific, he learned she was a fugitive, the Marshal died in the crash, he never asked if she was guilty, just assumed it was a mistake, says that 8 survived the crash, they landed in the water, he was hurt badly, if it weren't for her, he wouldn't have made it to the shore, she took care of them, gave them first-aid, found water, shelter, food, she tried to save the other 2, but Kate stops Jack from talking, says that it has nothing to do with anything.
The DA asks Jack if he loves her, but Jack says no, not anymore.

Kate wants to use Sawyer, to help her bust Ben out of Locke's basement.
Sawyer goes to Locke's house, asks him to play backgammon, Locke asks Sawyer if he thinks he knows what he's doing, if he's worried, Sawyer says he'd be more worried if he was at the beach, Locke asks what everyone else is saying, Sawyer tells him Kate wanted his help busting Ben out, she talked to Miles, he told her to bring Ben to him, Sawyer wants his word that he won't do anything to her.
Sawyer and Locke go to the boathouse to get Miles, but no one is there.
Kate is at Ben's house with Miles, breaks in, gives him one minute to talk to Ben.
Miles asks Ben if he knows who he is, who he works for, Ben says yes, Miles says then he knows that his boss put a lot of time and energy into finding him, and now he found him, that he can tell his boss exactly where he is, or he can lie and say he was already dead, he'd be willing to do that for $3.2 million.
Ben asks why $3.2 million, what makes him think he has access to that kind of money, Miles says not to treat him like he's one of them, like he doesn't know who he is, what he can do, Ben says his friend Charlotte has seen him, knows where he is, but Miles says he'll take care of Charlotte, that he has 2 days, but Ben says his situation is a little restricted right now, so Miles gives him a week, and wants the money in cash. Kate says their time is up, takes Miles out, wants to know if he knows who she is now.
Miles says they got her name when they called the freighter, knows about her and everyone else on the 815 manifest, he knows her name, her charges, wanted for murder, fraud, arson, a bunch of other stuff, that she was a fugitive, was caught in Australia, the feds were bringing her back, he says he'd stay there if he were her, on the island, that maybe she didn't' survive the crash.
Kate starts to take Miles back, but Sawyer and Locke show up, Locke tells her to go home. From Lostpedia
Kate goes home, Locke comes over to talk to her, wants to know what they said, Kate tells him about the money, that Miles said he would lie to the people on the boat, that he would tell them that Ben is dead, Locke says she's not welcome there anymore, wants her gone by morning.
Kate's lawyer brings her mom, Diane, to see her, so they could talk, she wants to know if Kate really is a hero, if what Jack said was true, Kate says she won't talk to her because the last time she saw her, she screamed for help, called the Police, but Diane says it all changed when she thought Kate was dead, she's been given 6 months to live for the last 4 years, she doesn't know how long she's going to last, that she doesn't want to testify, she just wants to see her grandson, wants to meet him, but Kate says no, she doesn't want her near him. Kate goes to Sawyer's house, he says he wanted Locke to think she fooled him too, Kate tells him Locke banished her, but Sawyer says she can stay, that he'll keep her safe.
Daniel and Charlotte are playing cards, Daniel is trying to remember three cards that were turned over, he says they are the Queen of Diamonds, 6 of Clubs, and the 10 of Hearts, but he gets the last one wrong, it's the 5 of Spades, Charlotte says it's not bad, that he made progress, but Daniel says 3 cards isn't progress. Jack still can't reach the freighter, he tells Charlotte and Daniel to call the emergency line.
Regina answers the line, Charlotte says Minkowski wasn't answering, they want to talk to their friends, that they left last night, but Regina doesn't know what they're talking about, she says that she thought the helicopter was with them.
Locke put Miles back in the boathouse, comes to talk to him in the morning, puts a grenade in his mouth, says he's responsible for the well-being of the island, leaves him there, tied up and with the grenade still in his mouth.
"I realize that when I tied you up in here the other day, I made the mistake of failing to introduce myself. My name is John Locke, and I'm responsible for the well-being of this island. Eventually, Miles, you're going to tell me who you are, and you're going to tell me about the people on the boat, and you're going to tell me why you're so interested in Ben. Sawyer wants to have sex, but Kate says no, Sawyer says she's still worried about the pregnancy thing, but Kate says that she's not worried, and she's not pregnant, Sawyer is happy, but Kate asks if it would be the worst thing in the world, Sawyer says yes, Kate says she's going back to the beach, but Sawyer calls her out, says she's just looking for an excuse to go, that she'll come running back to him when Jack pisses her off.
"Don't make this about me, Kate. You didn't want a baby any more than I did. You're just looking for some excuse to split, and now you got one. But it's alright, freckles, I ain't gonna hold it against you. I'm just gonna sit right here in my comfy bed. Diane is unable to testify in court because of medical reasons, the DA loses her star witness, she says she'll give Kate 4 years, but her lawyer says no jail time, the DA offers time served, plus 10 years probation, in agreement that she doesn't leave the state, Kate agrees immediately, says she just wants it to be over, that she won't go anywhere because of her son.
"No jail time. Kate Austen is a worldwide hero who saved five other people's lives after a plane crash, and nearly starved to death on a deserted island. And after all that, you put this woman on trial for rescuing her mother from an abusive husband. If you think that jury is going to give her actual time, then you must have a hell of a closing, Melissa." Lawyer
Kate leaves court, goes through the back door, Jack is there, waiting, her lawyer gave him a heads-up, owed him one, Kate says she's heard him tell that story so many times, she's starting to think he believes it, Jack says that what he said in court, he didn't mean it, Kate asks him to come to her house for a visit, but Jack says he has to get back to the hospital, maybe they could go for coffee sometime, Kate says she knows why he doesn't want to see the baby, but that until he does, there's no going for coffee, that anytime he changes his mind, to come and see them, Jack says okay. Kate leaves, gets in a taxi, goes home, to a nice house, a nanny greets her, she says he missed her so much, Kate asks if she kept him away from the television, she says yes, that he's sleeping, Kate goes upstairs and wakes up her son, and it's Aaron. From Lostpedia

Notes:

It is said that when Kate enters the courthouse, when there are protesters outside, the man yelling says "Claire will hate you."
Sawyer finally calls Kate out for not being able to choose between him and Jack.
I still don't know what the hell Eggtown means or what relevance it has to this episode.
