Initial Reaction to "Everybody Loves Hugo"

This episode was pretty awesome. I always enjoy Hurley-centric episodes and this one was no exception. On the surface, Hurley appears to be the source of the show's comedy, and merely that, but there is some deep-seeded seriousness to his story. He is the source which brought us to the numbers, one of the story's largest mythological mysteries. Speaking of which; we still don't know the answer to what the numbers really mean. Sure, Hurley is funny and he says "dude" a lot, but he's also a very serious character whose story tugs at your heart-strings. He sees dead people and relays messages from Jacob. He is haunted by these things, but tries to make the best of the situation. He can make you laugh one minute and cry the next. That says a lot about the depth of his character. This season; Hurley has become a leader. Everybody loves Hugo? You're damn straight we do.

Initial Reaction to "Dr. Linus"

Dr. Linus is a doctor? Didn't see that one coming! This episode was pretty awesome, though not as high-paced as I had anticipated. It was a very strong character episode, regardless of the pacing. Well, until the last two seconds when everything is all well and nice and everyone's hugging, and then the cheeriness is all blown to hell when Charles Widmore shows up to the party. Dude always has to ruin everything that's fun. Will he go on a baby killing tour around the island? Well, considering there are no longer any babies on the island at the moment... maybe he'll re-kill Claire's squirrel baby. That thing is the only thing that's more of a mood-killer than Widmore. But, I guess we'll only find out what his deal is in the weeks to come (Though probably not next week because they always like to do that to us. Grrrrr!). 1. Nikki is running frantically through the jungle, she stops and buries something, she gets up and keeps running toward the beach.

Nikki is a stripper, named Corvette, she goes into an office in the back, finds Mr. La Shade, stealing the money for the orphanage, that means he's the Cobra, he attacks her, she says Razzle-dazzle, she gets shot, series wrap for Corvette, it's a television show, Billy Dee Williams, they're in Sydney, the director says she doesn't need to die, they could say she's wearing a bullet proof vest, she says she's not leaving, that she loves him. Hurley and Sawyer are playing ping-pong, Nikki runs up to them, stumbling, she collapses in front of them, Sawyer says to go get some water, looks around to see what happened to her, but Hurley checks her, says that she's dead. 84 days ago--Nikki is having breakfast with the director, Zuckerman, Paulo is his chef, the Wolf Gang Puck of Brazil, Howie gives her a diamond bracelet, he starts to choke and he dies, heart attack, her and Paulo poisoned him, Nikki takes a key form around his neck, they go to a safe, Paulo wants to have a cigarette, but Nikki says it's evidence, they take a Matryoshka doll, something is inside it.
4. Everyone checks on Nikki, there's no gunshot wound, no knife, polar bear bite, maybe she was poisoned, check the food supply, she has gunk under her fingernails, Sawyer says she said something like plywood, but Hurley says it sounded like power-lines, but then thinks about it and realizes that she said Paulo lies, he's her husband, or boyfriend. Zuckerman, creative force behind hit shows Exposé, Strike Team Alpha and Dr. Kincaid Esquire, found dead from heart failure, Paulo and Nikki read in a newspaper in the Sydney Airport, drinking champagne, Paulo is chewing nicotine gum, they see Boone and Shannon arguing, they ask for a chair. Nikki tells Paulo to promise her that they'll never end up like them, Nikki looking for Paulo on the day of the crash, Jack helping Claire, Locke with Gary Troup, Dr. Arzt asks her if they're alive, Boone runs by and asks her for a pen, she finds Paulo, she wants to know where the bag is. 6. They find Paulo in the same condition as Nikki, pants undone, shoe in a tree, Sawyer sees something, but doesn't say anything, tells Jin not to drink his water, pours it out, Hurley says it's evidence, that he's screwing up the crime scene, Jin says the monster.

8. They move Paulo's body to where Nikki's is, Hurley agrees with Jin, says it's the monster, says that Eko said they're next, and Nikki and Paulo were there, Sawyer says they should look in their tent, find out about them, get some shovels.

10. 57 days ago--Nikki talks to Dr. Arzt, being flirty, he's a scientist and an educator, he tells her about his discoveries, 22 new species, says he's going to be the next Charles Darwin, shows her a Latrodectus Regina, the Medusa spider, her pheromones are very strong, one whiff and every male of the species would be there in seconds, she says she's trying to find her luggage, asks him about trajectories, he draws her a map, Paulo looks on nearby, he is jealous, they follow Arzt's map, find the beachcraft, Paulo doesn't want to go up, but Nikki says there might be a radio, Paulo says he'll fall, they keep going and find a metal door, The Pearl station, Paulo wants to go down, but Nikki says no. Notes:

1. The psychic lays down the tarot card for death, but the death card doesn't actually mean death.
2. Best filler episode after worst filler episode, in fact, this is probably my favorite filler, and it has the greatest set-up for something big that happens in the future, that no one could have ever expected, which is Roger Work Man and the DHARMA van.

1. 13 Days Ago--Michael asks John about guns, knocks him out, talks to Walt on the computer, Walt tells him to go North, to a rock with a hole in the middle, by the beach.

Today--Michael with paper, burns it, Jack says they need to talk, they plan to go across the island, Sawyer says there are 11 rifles and pistols, that they took 5 off them, Michael says if they leave now and move fast, they can get to the Others camp in the middle of the night tomorrow, that just the 5 of them should go, Jack questions Michael's decision making, says they'll bury Ana and Libby tonight, then figure out what's next.
3. 13 Days Ago--Michael runs through the jungle, checks his compass, runs into a man taking a piss, Danny Pickett, Mr. Friendly comes up from behind, Michael runs, firing, Pickett fires back, and the Others capture him.
4. Today--Eko tells Michael about boy at his church who killed his dog.
5. "For a brief time I served in a small parish in England. Every Sunday after Mass, I would see a young boy waiting in the back of the church. And then one day, the boy confessed to me that he had beaten his dog to death with a shovel. He said that the dog had bitten his baby sister on the cheek, and he needed to protect her. And he wanted to know whether he would go to hell for this. I told him that God would understand, that he would be forgiven, as long as he was sorry. But the boy did not care about forgiveness. He was only afraid that if he did go to hell, that dog would be there waiting for him." Eko
6. Michael tells Jack that everything has to go his way, that it has to be just the 5 of them, that it puts them in more danger, that it's his son, Jack says that's the way it will go then.
7. Charlie gives Claire and Aaron the vaccine from the pallet, that they have to take it every 9 days, that it's a pneumatic injector, he says that he tried it, that he wanted to make sure that it was safe for her and the baby, that he feels fine.

1. I was pretty disappointed with what Kate did after waiting two years to find out. She may be a murderer, but she killed her father under some reasonable circumstances. She was made out to be this cold-hearted killer that a US Marshal spent years following, and then all she did was blow up her alcoholic wife-beating father? I mean, come on!

3. I still don't understand what Edward Mars' personal vendetta against Kate is.
