Series Finale, Initial Reaction to "The End"

It has taken me a long time to finally complete this post. I swear to Duct Tape that I literally spent at least 80 hours working on this damn post. Between taking notes from watching the episode, to typing them all out, to organizing all my thoughts in a coherent manner.. It has taken forever. But, I enjoyed it all. Working on this has really helped me to explore and understand the entire episode and how I felt about it.

I hesitate to say that it was everything that I'd hoped it would be, because really, I went into this entire season with a completely open mind, and was just allowing myself to fully enjoy it. With that being said, I could not have imagined "The End" being any better than what it was. The entire episode felt like an homage, a tribute, a love-letter even, to the fans of the show. It was a masterpiece. I had been anticipating this for years, since they announced that LOST would end in 2010, and, in my opinion, they delivered. It was thoughtful. It was heartfelt. It was touching. It made me realize that the past six years of my life were truly a great experience. It made me want to go back and watch the whole damn thing all over again. I fucking loved it. But, I also can understand why some people didn't like it. So, let's discuss all of that, and everything in between, shall we?

This is going to be a long one. Bear with me.

Initial Reaction to "Dr. Linus"

Dr. Linus is a doctor? Didn't see that one coming! This episode was pretty awesome, though not as high-paced as I had anticipated. It was a very strong character episode, regardless of the pacing. Well, until the last two seconds when everything is all well and nice and everyone's hugging, and then the cheeriness is all blown to hell when Charles Widmore shows up to the party. Dude always has to ruin everything that's fun. Will he go on a baby killing tour around the island? Well, considering there are no longer any babies on the island at the moment... maybe he'll re-kill Claire's squirrel baby. That thing is the only thing that's more of a mood-killer than Widmore. But, I guess we'll only find out what his deal is in the weeks to come (Though probably not next week because they always like to do that to us. Grrrrr!). Enough chatter, let's get into it, Dr. Linus...

Season Premiere, Initial Reaction to "LA X (Parts 1 & 2)"

WOW. After about 18 hours, and watching it for a second time, I'm still trying to process last night's episode. You would think that after about Five Seasons of an intricate and confusing Television Show, that it would be a little less confusing and hard to wrap your brain around in its Final Season. Nope. I am more confused now than ever before, which is not to say that I don't like where it is headed or that I don't have some theories on said-heading. The biggest thing that I feel coming out of last night's Season Premiere of LOST is that I am proud to say that I watch this show. Sure, sometimes it makes me want to bang my head against a wall, and sometimes I don't agree with the turns it takes, BUT. This show is fearless, and perhaps the most fearless Television Show to ever grace Network Television. It's not afraid to shock us. It's not afraid to kill of our main characters. Hell, it's not even afraid to make an ISLAND a main character, move it through space and time, create an alternate timeline, and then sink it to the bottom of the ocean. For that, I am proud, because LOST doesn't assume that I am not intelligent enough or that I don't have the patience to be challenged into venturing into the unknown. This is one of the many reasons that LOST is not just a Television Show. It is knowledge. It is infinite possibilities. It's not afraid to take risks, to take a chance, to teach us something about ourselves. And as much as I will be so sad when this show ends, I am glad that it's ending.

Questions & Predictions on LOST SEASON SIX!

I can't believe that it's finally here. I've spent over five years religiously, and almost frighteningly, dedicated to this show. I watched from the first moment it was on the screen. Who would've thought that I'd be here right now and that I'd learn so much from a television show. It feels bittersweet right now, as I am glad that it is ending because we'll get the story that was supposed to be told, but I'm also sad. But for right now, I'm going to be excited, and I am sure that when it all comes to an end, I'll spent a lot of time reflecting on the series as a whole.

Here are some of my thoughts, questions and predictions for the FINAL SEASON OF LOST (!!!):

• What is the Smoke Monster? How was it created?
• Why is it afraid of the security fences but can be summoned from inside the barracks?
• How is the island moving through time and space?
• Why is Desmond special? Will he go back to the island?
• Why is Walt special? Will we ever see him again?
• What is Richard Alpert's story? How did he get to the island?
• Why doesn't he age? Why did Jacob do that to him?
• What is the story of the Black Rock? How did it get to the middle of the island?
• What is the sickness? Did Rousseau have it?
• What or who are the whispers?
• Who are Adam and Eve?
• Did the bomb go off? Is it what caused the incident?
• Who is the good guy, Jacob or the Man in Black?
• What are the rules and why must there be a loophole?
• How did Jacob and the Man in Black get to the island?
• When and how was the four-toed statue destroyed?
• Is Aaron special? If so, why?
• What happened to Claire? Did she die?
• Will she ever find out that Jack is her brother?
• Why did Desmond have a flash of Claire getting on a helicopter?

• What's Libby's story? Why was she in Santa Rosa? Was she working for Widmore?
• Who and where is Annie? What happened to her?
• What happened to the Hurley bird?
• Why was Ilana covered in bandages and speaking Russian?
• Who killed Nadia? Was it Ben? Did Jacob save Sayid or kill Nadia?
• Was Richard Malkin a fraud or did he know Claire's plane would crash on the island?
• Why do the others always say they're the good guys?
• Why do they kidnap children?
• What happened with Walt when he was with the others?
• What is the magic box?
• How did Anthony Cooper get to the island?
• When did the purge occur? Who was in charge of it?
• Why did Radzinsky build a blast door map if he knew where the stations all were already?
• Did Radzinsky really kill himself?
• Why did Richard say that he watched them all die?
• How did Ben and others get to and from the island so freely and how often did they leave?

Predictions for the Final Season (I know of NO SPOILERS whatsoever.):

• John Locke will get some sort of redemption.
• We will find out who Adam and Eve are.
• We probalby won't find out more about Walt, unfortunately.
• However, I think Walt having dreams about John Locke and what he says to him about him "wearing a suit, and people standing around you, trying to hurt you." are significant.
• I'm almost positive that we will finally get a Richard Alpert backstory.
• (More of a hope than a prediction.) PLEASE let the love triangle be over.
• Desmond will be important. We will learn why he is special and why the rules just don't apply to him.
• I'm starting to lean more and more toward them not crashing on the island, and landing in Los Angeles.
• We will finally find out what the island is and why they are there.
• We will learn more about the bomb going off, if it actually did, and what happens as a result of that.
• I really feel like the whole story is somehow going to come full circle, and I've felt that way since some time late in Season 2. I would not be surprised if the ending to the show was actually the beginning in some form or fashion and we learned that all we've watched was a way of getting everything right and back to the way it's supposed to be somehow. That would not shock me. 
• The two opposing sides have been going on for a long time. There's Jacob and the Man in Black, Benjamin Linus and Charles Widmore, Jack Shephard and John Locke. There will be great significance to this.
• This has all probably been going on for a very long time, and has taken a very long time to get to whatever the end point actually is. All of these people are special because they fix the timeline somehow.
• My biggest hope for the ending is that it will be left with some mystery and it will be something that grows on you over time, becoming more and more significant and mind-blowing as you think about it. I want it to be something that was clearly there all along, but never in your face; something that makes you go back and watch every episode again and you can't believe that you didn't see it.
• I really trust the writers of this show, so regardless of if there will be things I like or not, which I'm sure there will be, I believe it will all work itself out in a satisfying way.
• It will be amazing, scary, awesome, mind-blowing, bittersweet, sad, happy.
• I can't wait!

That all being said, I don't expect every question I have to be answered. I fully expect, and actually hope, that some of the mysteries will be able to live on forever. It will be what keeps people watching and talking about this show for years and years to come, and it is what LOST deserves. I'm sure there will be some things that I am disappointed in, but I have faith and am now, after five years, just along for the journey.

5.13 Some Like it Hoth

1. A microwave reads 3:16, a man says I'm telling you it's a steal at 400, in an apartment, he asks if a woman has to check with her husband, she says that it's just her, a boy calls his mommy, comes in, asks if he can have a quarter for the vending machine, the mother says I told you to wait by the pool, the man says that he thought it was just you, she says that she meant her husband was out of the picture, that it's just her and her son, the man says he doesn't know, that most of the other tenants, they don't like noise, woman says he's very quiet, man says he's going to need two months up front, she gives the boy a quarter, he leaves, she tells him no running, says you hear me, Miles, the boy walks around, a car alarm goes off, he goes to the vending machine, but he has a vision, a feeling, he goes to apartment #4, touches the door, looks down at a rabbit, takes the key out from underneath, opens the door, looks inside, he yells for his mom, mommy, help, they go in the apartment, a man is dead on the floor, the landlord says it's Mr. Vonner, Miles' mom asks what were you doing in here, Miles says that man was all alone, that he was scared, and his chest hurt, he kept calling out for Kimberly, the landlord says that was his wife, that she died last year, asks Miles how he would know that, Miles says that he heard him, mom says what are you talking about, Miles says he's still talking right now, mom says he's dead, Miles says he told her, he could hear him.

Sawyer calls Miles on his walkie, Miles asks where he's been, Sawyer says he needs him to take care of something, the security tapes from the pylon cameras feeds, they need to accidentally get erased, Miles asks why, Sawyer says that he doesn't have time for questions, to just do it, he tells him to look on his monitors to see which ones, asks Miles if he sees them, Miles says he's on #4, asks is that Kate, Sawyer says to just erase it, and if anyone asks, he's off the grid, he's looking for the escape hostile, Miles says you mean your pal, Sayid, Sawyer asks if he's going to help him or not, Miles says yes, he has it, Sawyer says he owes him one. Horace goes into security, asks Miles where's La Fleur, Miles says he's out looking for escaped prisoner, that he must be out of range, tried to reach him on his walkie, Horace says he needs La Fleur, but he's going to have to ask Miles for a favor, Horace says that he's going to bring him into the circle of trust, asks Miles can I trust you, Miles says absolutely, Horace says take this out to Radzinsky, at grid 334, he says that he's going to give him something in return, to bring it back to him with no questions asked, Horace asks Miles does he understand, Miles says they're not supposed to be in 334, he asks isn't that hostile territory, Horace says welcome to the circle of trust, Miles doesn't get the tape, he leaves in a DHARMA van, drives, Radzinsky comes out from nowhere, stops the van, points a rifle at Miles, Radzinsky says what are you doing out here, that he was expecting La Fleur, Miles says La Fleur is busy, that Horace sent him instead, that he's in the circle of trust, Radzinsky says to get out, Miles says he's supposed to give him this, hands him a package, and says that Horace said he had something for him, Radzinsky whistles, calls someone out, he opens the package, men come out of the jungle with a body on a stretcher, Miles asks what happened to him, Radzinsky says he had an accident, Miles asks what kind of accident, Radzinsky says that he fell into a ditch, Miles looks at the body, sees a hole in the man's head, he asks if the ditch had a gun, Radzinsky says it doesn't matter what happened, because knowing that is not his job, that his job is to do what he tells him to, the men cover up body, put it into the back of the van, Radzinsky says to take him back to Horace now, Miles, Miles gets in, then looks at the body in the back of the van, opens up the body bag to see a man, Miles says okay, asks the body, so what really happened. Knocking on a door, Apartment #7, Miles, a teenager, dressed punk, a woman answers, Miles says that he needs to see her, the woman lets him in, a dog is barking outside, Miles' mom is very sick, she looks like she's dying, possibly of cancer, she's in a hospital bed, really sick, losing her hair, Miles sits down next to her, Miles says mom, it's me, she wakes, she says Miles, Miles says that he's sorry that he couldn't make it by sooner, she says it's okay, that he's here now, she asks why did you come, Miles, he says he needs her to tell him why he's this way, how he does the things he does, and he needs to know why she won't talk to him about his father, she says because he never cared about them, never cared about him, Miles says needs to know where he is, she says it doesn't matter where, Miles says it does matter, she says please, Miles says that he has a right to know, she says that he's dead, your father, kicked us out when he was just a baby, he didn't want anything to do with us, so the less you knew about him, the better, Miles says why didn't she just tell him, she says because it was over, your dad has been dead a long time, Miles asks where's his body, she says that it's somewhere he could never go.

Miles back at security, Horace on the phone, he says Pierre, if it was about the electromagnetism, they need to know, he says that he just got back, I'll send him out with it right away, Horace hangs up, asks Miles did he bring the package, Miles says package, you mean the corpse, Horace says yeah, now he needs him to bring it to Dr. Chang down at The Orchid, Miles says listen, he's security, if he just needs someone to drive a van, can't someone from the Motor Pool do it, Horace says since La Fleur decided to disappear, he's all he's got, so just bring it out to Dr. Chang, and they'll all call it a day, Miles leaves.
10. Hurley is outside, putting stuff in Miles' van, Miles says he can't, Hurley says he just signed it out, asks Miles where he's going, he says to The Orchid, Hurley says he is too, that he made sandwiches for the crew, ham and cheese, asks if Miles wants one, says and he made his secret garlic mayo, Miles says he's waiting for the neext van, Hurley asks why, he says they're going to the same place, why don't they carpool, he says that it'll help them with global warming, which hasn't happened yet, so maybe they can prevent it, he says wait a second, aks Miles if he's on some kind of secret mission, Miles says to just get in.
11. Juliet at the Infirmary, Kate comes in, Juliet asks how'd it go, Kate says they gave him to the others, Juliet asks if anyone saw them, Kate says she doesn't think so, Juliet asks did James help, Kate says yes, thank you so much for sending him, Roger comes in with a crate of things from The Staff, says he got there as soon as he could, he's out of breath, notices that Ben is no longer there, an empty bed, he says where's Ben, asks did he, Juliet says no, that she's so sorry, she was gone for ten minutes, she doesn't know what happened, Roger says she's his doctor, she's supposed to watch him, Juliet says she doesn't know, Roger says he's going to security, he leaves, Juliet tells Kate, well, here we go.

In DHARMA van, Hurley writes in a notebook, Hurley asks Miles how you spell bounty hunter, Miles asks what he's doing, writing memoirs, Hurley says it's personal, asks Miles dude, did you just, you know, it stinks, Miles says no, Hurley says well it wasn't him, Miles says so roll down window, Hurley does, but says it's not him, it stills stinks in here, it's coming from back there, Miles says maybe it's his famous garlic mayo, Hurley says that's not possible, okay maybe it is possible, tells Miles to pull over, he has to check, Miles says he's imagining things, Hurley says if those sandwiches are bad, people could get sick, yells for Miles to pull over, Hurley goes in back to check, looks through things, smelling, finds the body, says dude there's a body bag back here, with a body in it, Miles says that's traditionally what you put in a body bag, Hurley asks well who he is, what happened, Miles says don't worry about it, and don't tell anyone you saw him, Hurley asks what happened, Miles says his name is Alvarez, he was digging a hole, and thinking about some chick named Andrea, then he felt this sharp pain in his mouth, which turned out to be a filling from his tooth being yanked right out of its socket, and blowing through his brain, then he was dead, Hurley asks how does a filling get blown through someone's head, Miles says let's go, Hurley asks how he knows all of this, Miles says because he knows, Hurley asks but how does he know what he was thinking, Miles says he just knows, Hurley says he can talk to dead people, Miles says please just go, Hurley says don't worry dude, your secret's safe with me, you want to know why, Miles says no, Hurley says because he can talk to them too. Miles with man, looking at picture of boy in a football uniform, says if you don't mind, Mr. Gray, can you tell me what happened to him, he says last Labor Day weekend, a drunk driver ran a red light, Miles asks how his son was buried, Mr. Gray says he cremated him, scattered his ashes around the football field at his school, Miles says that what he does, it's much better if there's a body, Mr. Gray says but his ad said, he could communicate with the dead, any time, anywhere, Miles says he knows what the ad said, Mr. Gray says he just wants him to ask, did he know that he loved him, Miles says it's going to cost extra, Mr. Gray says of course, gives him more money, Miles says okay, now give him his hands, he says to concentrate on Russel, just get a picture of him in his head, asks can he do that, Mr. Gray says yeah, Miles focuses, Mr. Gray asks did it work, Miles says his son says that he knew that he loved him, that he always knew, Mr. Gray says thank you, Miles says I'm sorry for your loss.

Miles leaving Mr. Gray's house, putting his things in the trunk of his car, Naomi approaches him, asks if he's Miles Straume, introduces herself as Naomi Dorrit, says her employer has been following his work for some time now, and he's interested in following his rather unique services, she says there's a restaurant not too far from there, asks Miles if he wants to hear what she has to say, Mile says yes, absolutely, he leaves with her. Miles and Hurley, Hurley has a sandwich, says so anyway, Miles says he doesn't want to talk about it, Hurley says are you kidding me, how weird is it that your dad is that dude from all those movies, only back then, he was called Marvin Candle, asks if that was like a stage name, Miles says he doesn't want to talk about it, Hurley asks if he doesn't want to talk about it, then why did he tell him, asks how long he's known he was his dad, Miles says the third day they were there, he was in line at the cafeteria and his mother got in line behind him, that was his first clue, Hurley says but all the DHARMA dudes end up dead, Miles says he can't save them, that they're going to get killed no matter what he does, so why bother, Pierre Chang shows up.

29. Pierre says he needs Miles to take him to Radzinsky at the worksite, immediately, he says you, Hurley, if you say a word, Hurley says polar bear poop, got it, Miles asks what happened to the body, Pierre says what body, the three of them get in the van.
30. Jack cleaning a classroom, Roger comes in, says this room is on his rounds, why is he here, Jack says he figured he'd cover for him, after what happened to his son, Roger says which part, that he got shot, or that someone kidnapped him from the Infirmary, Jack says then what is he doing there, Roger says what else is he going to do, sit around and pray that those idiots find his boy, Roger says so he can get out of there, knocks things over, Roger says he came in here a couple of a days ago with that woman, Kate, Jack says yeah, Roger says you know her at all, Jack says why, Roger says she has some kind of weird thing for his kid, first she shows up at the Infirmary and gives his kid blood, and then when he goes missing, she comes to him and says don't worry, he's going to be okay, Roger says I'm going to tell you something, I'm beginning to think that she's got something to do with this, he says that he should go to Horace, report her, he asks Jack what do you think, Jack says he thinks that he's had a hell of a day, and that's giving him a very good excuse to go out and get drunk, and maybe that's put some crazy ideas into his head, he says that he knows that woman, Kate, that she's his friend, and she would never do anything to hurt his son, Roger says sure, he leaves.

Hurley says it's furry fist, that he needs a spell-check, Miles asks what the hell is this, Hurley says he's writing The Empire Strikes Back, Miles says what, Hurley says it's 1977, so Star Wars just came out, and pretty soon, George Lucas is going to be looking for a sequel, he says that he's seen Empire like 200 times, so he figured he'd make life easier, and send him the script, with a couple of improvements, Miles says that has got to be the stupidest thing he's ever heard, Hurley says oh Yeah, well at least he's not scared to talk to his own dad.

Sawyer goes home, Juliet says he's back, Sawyer says barely, asks if she's ever had one of those days where you feel like a little Dutch boy with your finger in, he notices Jack is there, says what's going on, Jack says Ben's father thinks that Kate had something to do with his son going missing, Sawyer asks why the hell would he think that, Juliet says because she talked to him, tried to make him feel better, Sawyer says why the hell would she do that, Jack says her heart was in the right place, Sawyer says but where was her head, Jack says he had a talk with Roger, doesn't think he's going to say anything to anyone for now, just wanted him to know, Jack tells Juliet thank you, Sawyer says thanks for filling him in, Jack leaves.
45. Sawyer goes outside, Phil comes over, says hey boss, they have a development, that he better come down to the office, La Fleur says he's been running around the jungle all day, so whatever development he's got, it can wait a while, Phil says he knows who took the kid, La Fleur asks who's that, Phil says you, La Fleur says he's got a perfectly good explanation for that, he escorts Phil inside, asks him if he's talked to Horace about it yet, Phil says no, that he thought that after three years of working together, he'd give him the benefit of the doubt, Sawyer knocks him out, tells Juliet to get some rope. A man raking leaves, Mr. Gray, Miles comes back, says he hopes he doesn't mind, says his gate was open, he says Mr. Straume, of course, no problem, Miles comes with bag packed, Mr. Gray asks what brings him by, Miles says well sir, he's about to go on a boat trip for a while, wanted to give this back to you, he hands him an envelope with money, Miles says he lied to him, he wasn't able to talk to his son, Mr. Gray asks why tell him this, that he could've just let him go on believing, Miles says it wouldn't have been fair to his son, Mr. Gray says sorry, Miles says if he needed his son to know that he loved him, he should've told him when he was still alive, Miles leaves.

Back at the barracks, Miles and Hurley get out of the van, Hurley says sorry he said he was afraid to talk to his dad, Miles says don't worry about it, Hurley says he used to hate his dad too, he tells Miles that he left when he was 10, but the best thing he ever did was give him a second chance, and they got to be the best of friends, and although he'll never see him again, he misses him and he knows that he feels the same way too,  Miles says that his dad didn't leave when he was 10, he was a baby, he never knew him, and he doesn't want to, not happening, Hurley says that was Luke's attitude too, in Empire, Luke found out that Vader was his father, and instead of putting away his lightsaber and talking about it, he overreacted and got his hand cut off, he says they worked it out eventually, but at what cost, another Death Star was destroyed, Boba Fett got eaten by the Sarlacc, and they got the Ewoks, it all could have been avoided if they all just communicated, and let's face it, the Ewoks sucked, dude.

5.11 Whatever Happened, Happened

1. Jin in the jungle, someone radios his walkie, asks are you there, if he can hear him, Jin wakes up from being knocked out by Sayid, talks on his walkie, it's Phil, who asks where has he been, Phil says that the hostile escaped, that they're searching in the East grid, Jin says that he's heading North, Phil asks how he knows that, Jin says because he attacked him, Phil asks where are you, Jin sees Ben's body, Ben says to please help him, Jin picks him up, puts him in the DHARMA van, drives away. 2. Horace gathers everyone to explain the situation, he says to listen up, he says we don't know yet if another attack is coming, to take their security assignments, and make sure they're in contact with their team leaders, he says that La Fleur has search parties out, but the hostile has a jump on them, Hurley asks Jack if he's talking about Sayid, Jack asks if he was locked up, how he could start the fire, Horace says that someone else torched the van, gave him help, since the security cameras didn't catch any of the hostiles crossing the perimeter, he says it was one of them, they'll have a full report on cleanup.
3. "We don't know yet if another attack is coming. So everybody needs to be ready for your security assignments. Make sure you're in contact with your team leaders. La Fleur's got search parties out, but the hostile's got a good jump on us. We're pretty sure he used this fire as a diversion in order to escape." Horace
4. Roger Linus asks Kate for help with the van, but she doesn't know what he's talking about, Roger says to crank her up, asks if they just stuck her in the Motor Pool when she got there, Kate says yes, Roger says they couldn't sucker anyone into getting on the sub if they told them that they were going to be grease monkeys, Kate introduces herself, Roger says welcome aboard, tells her his name is Roger Linus, Kate says nice to meet you Roger, Jin shows up with Ben's body, Roger says that's his kid.
5. Kate is driving, listening to Patsy Cline, she drives up to a house, parks n the driveway, takes Aaron out of the backseat, he's still a baby, only a few months old, Kate sings him Catch A Falling Star, she  goes up to the house, rings the doorbell, Cassidy Phillips answers, she's surprised to see her, says she saw Kate on the news, told her friends she knows that woman, Kate introduces her to Aaron, Cassidy says that she survived a plane crash, that's amazing, tells Kate that she never thought she'd see her again, asks what she's doing there, Kate tells Cassidy that Sawyer sent her there. Kate gives Cassidy an envelope filled with money, Cassidy says Sawyer, that son of a bitch is still alive, Kate says that he was when she left, Cassidy says so he asked her to go there and give her an envelope full of money, Kate says that he told her where to find her, and said to take care of Clementine, his daughter, Cassidy says she's asleep in her crib right now, doesn't want to wake her up, Kate says she shouldn't have bothered her, Cassidy says she could've sent it, asks why'd she tell her all of this, why did she trust her, Kate says that she thought her daughter had a right to know that her father cared about her, Cassidy asks why he didn't come back with them, Kate says that the helicopter they were on was running out of gas, so he jumped, so that they could make it to the boat, Cassidy says what a coward, Kate says he was trying to do the right thing, Cassidy says he was trying to get away from her, that she told him he had a daughter, and he never so much as lifted a finger to call her, so now she's supposed to think he's a hero because he told her to come there, she says she bets the money isn't even his, she asks is it, Kate says they gave a settlement after the crash, and she didn't need it all, Cassidy says she doesn't have to explain it, that she has the same look on her face that she had when Sawyer ditched her, Cassidy says that all she has for her is sympathy, she asks Kate is it his, her son, is it Sawyer's, Kate says no, she was pregnant before she met him, Cassidy says that's not her baby, she just told her that her and her friends cooked a whole story for the world about what happened on the island, she says that Kate tells her the truth about that, asks why is she lying about him, Kate says because she has to.
8. "Why didn't he come back with the rest of you?" Cassidy "The helicopter that we were on was running out of gas, so he jumped so that we could make it to the boat." Kate "What a coward." Cassidy "He was trying to do the right thing." Kate "He was trying to get away from you. I told him he had a daughter. He never so much as lifted a finger to try to call her. So now I'm supposed to think he's a hero because he told you to come here and help us? Hell, I bet this money's not even his, is it?" Cassidy
9. "That's not your baby, is it? Kate, you just told me that you and your friends cooked a story for the whole world about what happened on that island. So you tell me the truth about that? Why are you lying to me about him?" Cassidy "Because I have to." Kate
10. At the Security station, Sawyer looks at the monitors, Kate comes in, asks what happened, Sawyer asks what she's doing there, Kate says that it's Ben, the kid that was shot was Ben, Sawyer says to keep her mouth shut and don't draw any attention to herself, to leave, he doesn't want her around here, Kate says she just wants to know what's going on, Horace comes in, asks what she's doing there, La Fleur says Kate, that she's new at the Motor Pool, he was just seeing if she saw anything suspicious but she didn't, Horace asks if he checked out the hostile's cell yet, La Fleur says he's been too busy trying to keep the town from burning down, they look at the cell, which has keys still in the cell door, they say he didn't break out, that someone let him out, La Fleur says they're janitor's keys, Horace says they only have three janitors, Roger, Willie and that new guy, that he just met him, his name is Jack, La Fleur says that he just brought him in on the sub, he will go talk to him, asks Miles to come with him, Miles says sure, boss.
11. Sawyer tells Miles to find Jack, Hurley and Kate, to put them in a house and sit on them, he doesn't want them talking to anyone, doesn't want this thing to spin out of control, Miles says okay.
12. La Fleur goes to the Infirmary, Roger is waiting there, he asks who did this, La Fleur says he's trying to figure that out, that he's going to talk to Juliet, asks Roger for his keys, but he doesn't have them, says he must have left them at home, La Fleur says it's okay, he goes inside.
13. Juliet is trying to save Ben, but she can't stop the hemorrhaging, Sawyer asks where's the doctor that's supposed to be there, Juliet says he's at The Looking Glass station until Friday, Juliet says she can't fix it, that someone needs to get in there, find the damage, he needs a real surgeon.
14. "No, it's not all right. Someone needs to get in there who can find the damage that bullet did and fix it. [Whispers] He needs a real surgeon." Juliet
15. Miles with gun, Jack says he's telling him they're under house arrest, Miles says they're all free to leave whenever they want, but he'll shoot them in the leg, Jack asks and who's idea is this, Kate says that Sawyer's just doing his job, Hurley looks at his hand, says he's trying to see if he's disappearing, like Back to the Future, he says they came back in time to the island, that it can change stuff, he says that if little Ben dies, then he can't grow up to be big Ben, which means they don't come back to the island, therefore, they don't exist, Miles says that he's an idiot, that it doesn't work like that, you can't change anything, that his maniac, Iraqi buddy shot Linus, but it always happened, they just never experienced how it all turns out, Hurley says it's confusing, Miles says the good news is that Linus didn't die, which means the kid can't either, Kate says it didn't look like that, Miles says if he's wrong then they all stop existing, and then it doesn't matter. 16. "What the hell are you doing, Tubby?" Miles "Checking to see if I'm disappearing." Hurley "What?" Miles "Back to the Future, man. We came back in time to the island and changed stuff. So if little Ben dies, he'll never grow up to be big Ben, who's the one who made us come back here in the first place. Which means we can't be here. And therefore, dude? We don't exist." Hurley "You're an idiot." Miles "Am I?" Hurley "Yeah. It doesn't work like that. You can't change anything. Your maniac Iraqi buddy shot Linus. That is what always happened. But, the good news is that Linus didn't die, so that means the kid can't either. He'll be fine." Miles "Didn't look like he was gonna be fine. What if you're wrong?" 17. Sawyer comes in, tells Jack they need his help, he says that the kid is losing blood, Jack says no, Sawyer says if he doesn't go with him, the kid is going to die, Jack says then he dies.
18. "Juliet said the kid's losing blood, and we ain't gone none to put back in him. So, we need you to show us where he sprung a leak." Sawyer
19. Kate asks Jack what he's doing, Jack says he's making a sandwich, Kate says he's just a boy, that they can't just let him die, Jack says she heard Miles, they can't change what happens, Kate says unless he's the one that's supposed to save him, Jack says that 30 years from now, that boy is going to be a man, that locks him in a cage because he needs surgery, and then she's going to come in and beg him to operate on him because he's threatening to murder Sawyer, he already said this once, he already saved Ben's life for her, and he's not going to do it again, Kate says it's their fault, that they brought Sayid back, they caused this, Jack says did she ever think that maybe the island just wants to fix things itself, that maybe he was just getting in the way, Kate says she doesn't like the new him, that she liked the old him, who wouldn't just sit around and wait for things to happen, Jack says she didn't like the old him, Kate leaves.
20. "You heard Miles. We can't change what's already happened. This has nothing to do with me." Jack "Unless you're the one who's supposed to save him." Kate "30 years from now, that boy's gonna be a man...that locks me in a cage because he needs surgery. And then you're gonna come in and you're gonna beg me to operate on him because he's threatening to murder Sawyer. I've already done this once. [scoffs] I've already saved Benjamin Linus, and I did it for you, Kate. I don't need to do it again." Jack "This is our fault. We brought Sayid back. We caused this." Kate "You know, when we were here before, I spent all of my time trying to fix things. But...did you ever think that maybe the island just wants to fix things itself? And maybe I was just...getting' in the way?" Jack "You know, I don't like the new you. I liked the old you, who wouldn't just sit around and wait for things to happen." Juliet is trying to help Ben, Kate comes into the Infirmary, the nurse tells Juliet that she said Ben needed blood, and Kate's a universal donor, Juliet says that James told her that Jack wouldn't help, but didn't say why, Kate says if she understood why Jack does what he does, she wouldn't be there, Juliet asks if off island something happened with them, Kate says they were engaged, does that count, Roger comes into the Infirmary while Kate is giving blood, he asks what's going on, Juliet says Kate is giving fresh blood so they can transfuse Ben, Roger refuses to leave, so Kate says Juliet can check on Ben, and Roger will keep her company to make sure she doesn't pass out, Juliet says okay, Roger thanks Kate, Roger says Ben stole his keys, La Fleur asked him for his keys, that he doesn't ask any questions that he doesn't know the answers to, which means Ben stole his keys to bust the hostile out of jail, Kate asks why he would do that, Roger says because of him, asks Kate if she has kids, she says no, Roger says he thought he was going to be the greatest father ever, that he guesses it didn't work out that way, Kate asks what about Ben's mother, if she's still around, Roger says no she's dead, that she died that day he was born, Kate says she's sorry, he says him too, that he tried to do what he thought she'd want him to do, but he guesses a boy just needs his mother, Ben starts choking, going into hypoxic shock, Juliet says to get Roger out of there.

Hurley says to get this straight, all this already happened, Miles says yes, Hurley says so this conversation we're having right now, we already had it, Miles says yes, Hurley asks so what he's going to say next, Miles says he doesn't know, Hurley says then his theory is wrong, Miles says for the thousandth time, the conversation already happened, but not for them, for them, it's happening right now, Hurley says if all this already happened to him, then why doesn't he remember any of it, Miles says because once Ben turned that wheel, time isn't a straight line for us anymore, our experiences in the past and the future, occurred before these experiences right now, Hurley says say that again, Miles says to shoot him, gives Hurley his gun, Hurley says that he can't shoot him, because if he dies on the island in 1977, then he'll never come back on the freighter 30 years from now, Miles says that he can die, because he's already come to the island on the freighter, that any of them can die, because this is their present, Hurley says but he said Ben can't die because he still has to become the leader of the island, Miles says because this is his past, Hurley says when they first captured Ben, and Sayid tortured him, then why wouldn't he remember getting shot by that same guy when he was a kid, Miles says huh, he hadn't thought of that, Hurley says huh.
25. "Let me get this straight. [Miles is pacing.] All this already happened." Hurley "Yes." Miles "So, this conversation we're having right now...we already had it." Hurley "[Claps his hands] Yes!" Miles "Then what am I gonna say next?" Hurley "I don't know. [Shakes his head.]" Miles "Ha'! Then your theory is wrong!" 26. Roger is pacing outside the Infirmary, Kate waits too, Juliet comes out, Roger asks how is he, Juliet says he's stable, Roger asks if he's going to be okay, Juliet says that he has some fresh blood running through him, which is a good thing, Juliet wants Roger to go to medical station, she says there are some supplies there that they don't' have here, Roger says he just wants to say thanks, he knows that she's doing everything she can to save him, Roger says he's going to go, Kate asks Juliet if he's better, Juliet says he's stable, but she can't fix him, Kate says what about the sub, that they can take him somewhere, Juliet says no, that the sub is gone, and it won't be back for a few months, Kate says there has to be something they can do, they have an entire camp, Juliet says there may be something they can do, the others.
27. Juliet and Kate take Ben out of the Infirmary, put him in a DHARMA van, Juliet says okay let's go, but Kate says no, that if she gets caught, she doesn't want to get her in trouble, that if Sawyer knew, he'd kill her, Juliet says he's going to find out that Ben is gone, and she'll have to tell, but she'll give her a head start, as much as she can, Kate leaves.
28. "No, no, no, no. If something goes wrong or we get caught, it doesn't matter for me, but you've got a whole life here. And besides, if Sawyer knew that I got you involved in this, he'd kill me." Kate
29. At the Long Beach Marina, Ben talks to Sun, he says the same person that's going to show them how to get back to the island, Kate asks is that what this is about, Jack says that he wasn't pretending anything, Kate leaves, in the car, Aaron says he's thirsty, wants some milk, Kate goes to grocery store, but now Aaron wants a damn juice box, Kate asks a stock boy what aisle they're on, her phone rings, Kate lets go of Aaron's hand, Jack calling her, Kate looks down and Aaron is gone, Kate frantically looks for him, calls Aaron's name, looks down all the aisles, she runs around the store, at the front, she sees Aaron holding the hand of a woman with blonde hair, who looks just like Claire, but it isn't her, says she found him by the fruit, was going to make an announcement, Kate says thank you to the woman, she comforts Aaron.
30. Kate drives to the pylons, stops there, Ben is choking, says he needs help, to tell his dad he's sorry he stole his keys, Kate says to try not to talk, Sawyer shows up in another DHARMA van, Kate says she knows he's gotta stop her, but that she can't just let that kid die, Sawyer says dammit freckles, that he isn't there to stop her, he's there to help her.
31. "I know you gotta stop me...but I can't just let that kid die." Kate "Damn it, Freckles. I ain't here to stop you. I'm here to help you." Sawyer

Kate with Aaron, a few years old, she goes to Cassidy's house, which has a no soliciting sign on it, Clementine says hi Auntie Kate, Kate says hi Clementine, asks for her mom, Clementine says I'll go get her, inside Kate talks to Cassidy, she says they're gong back to the island, Cassidy says why in God's name would they want to do that, Kate says she doesn't know, that Jack says that they weren't supposed to leave, Cassidy says well Jack sounds like a piece of work, that Kate should take a nap, and she'll watch Aaron, Kate says she lost him, that she doesn't know what happened, but she was in the supermarket, and she turned around for one second and he was gone, and the crazy thing is as scared as she was, she wasn't surprised, all she could think was, it's about time, she asks Cassidy why would she feel that way, why would she expect him to be taken, Cassidy says because she took him, Kate says no, Claire was gone, she left him, that she had to take him, that he needed her, Cassidy says that she needed him, that Sawyer broke her heart, she asks Kate how else was she supposed to fix it.
33. "They're going back? To the island? Why in God's name would they wanna do that?" Cassidy "I don't know. Jack says that we weren't supposed to leave." Kate "Well, Jack sounds like a piece of work. You look exhausted. Drink this. Curl up on my bed. Take a nap. [Pours liquid] I'll watch your fella." Cassidy "I lost him." Kate "What?" Cassidy "I don't know what happened. We were in the supermarket, and I turned around for one second, and he was gone. I mean, why would I expect him to be taken?" Kate "Because you took him, Kate." Cassidy "No, I...Claire was gone. I mean, she left him. I had to take him. He needed me." Kate "You needed him. Sawyer punches in the Security code, asks Kate if she figured out how she was going to carry him by herself, Kate says that the line is right there, they're just on the other side, asks Sawyer why he's doing this, why he's helping her, Sawyer says when found out Ben was gone, he asked Juliet the same question, why she's helping Ben, and she said no matter what he's going to grow up to be, it's wrong to let a kid die, so that's why he's doing this, he says that he's doing it for her, they walk through the pylons.
35. "Hey. Why are you doing this? Why are you helping me?" Kate "When I found out Ben was gone, and Juliet told me what you were up to, I asked that exact damn question. Why are you helping Ben? And she said...no matter what he's gonna grow up to be, it's wrong to let a kid die. So...that's why I'm doing this. I'm doing it for her." Sawyer

Juliet goes into the house, she asks Miles and Hurley where's Jack, they say in the shower, Juliet says she just needs to talk to him, if they mind giving them some privacy, Hurley and Miles leave, Miles says to ask him more questions about time travel, Jack taking a shower, Juliet busts in, waiting for him when he gets out, she says she needed him, that kid was bleeding out, he's a surgeon and she needed him, Jack says that kid is Ben, Juliet says that it's not Ben yet, Juliet says that he made it clear he wasn't interested, and it's up to Kate and Sawyer now, they're helping him, that she doesn't need his help now, Jack says he came back there because he was trying to save them, Juliet says they didn't need saving, they've been fine for three years, she says that he came back for him, to at least give the courtesy of telling her why, Jack says he came back because he was supposed to, Juliet asks supposed to do what, Jack says he doesn't know yet, Juliet says that he better figure it out, she leaves.

The hostiles suddenly come out of the jungle, with guns, approach Sawyer and Kate, they say don't move, that they're in violation of the truce, Sawyer says they know, but this kid has been shot, so unless they want to go to war, they're going to take them to Richard Alpert and they're going to do it now.

Kate at a door, Ms. Littleton answers, she introduces herself as Kate Austen, Carole says she knows who she is, to come in, Kate says thank you, Carole says your friend, Dr. Shephard came here last night, that he was going on and on about some person named Aaron, and when she asked who that was, he ran out of there like the room was on fire, Kate says he's her grandson, and her daughter Claire is alive, Carole says what are you talking about, that Claire died in the plane crash, Kate says no, she survived, that when they crashed, her daughter was already 8 months pregnant, that she's the one who had the baby, Kate says there were other people they left behind, Carole asks why would you leave her there, Kate says because she disappeared, she left the baby behind, that they looked everywhere, and that's when she started taking care of Aaron, when they got rescued, they had to decide what to do with him, and she knew that Claire wanted him to be adopted, but she couldn't, she had to protect him, so she said he was hers, Carole asks why she would lie, why didn't she come to her in the first place, Kate says because she needed him, she says she's sorry, she says that Carole will see that he's so sweet and kind and good, shows her a picture, Carole asks where is he, Kate says that she checked in two doors down, he's asleep, that she knows that this is a lot for her to handle, but when she's ready, that he's waiting for her, Kate says she told him that she's his grandmother, and that she'll take care of him while she's gone, and that she'll be back soon, Carole asks where are you going, Kate says she's going back to find her daughter. More Thoughts on "The Incident"

After re-watching "The Incident" a few times, I've actually discovered that I liked it quite a bit. I think that what originally left me feeling a bit trepidatious about it was that it made me feel as though I no longer had any clue what the hell was going on anymore. I guess that, for the past few seasons, I've spent a little too much time speculating and theorizing about LOST. So much so that I almost had it all mapped out in my head. After you spend a lot of time going so in-depth about certain theories, ripping each one apart, in order to figure out if it has validity, it hampers you from just sitting back and enjoying the show thoroughly. Since realizing that, I've decided to truly just let the ride take me wherever it may go, to just enjoy it fully because, well, we only have one season left of this wonderful show.

So, with that said, the one thing that I've been thinking the most about from "The Incident" is Jacob. I'm still not sure whether he is good or evil. But, I have been thinking about the black and white theme that has gone on throughout the entire series and showed up heavily in the opening scene of "The Incident" when Jacob and the man in black (let's call him "Esau" for now), are having their conversation on the beach.

But who are "Esau" and the man we know as Jacob? Why are they on two opposing sides?

4.13 There's No Place Like Home, Parts 2 & 3

1. Back at the airport, Kate stops the car, drives back, gets out crying, she says that Jack called her for two days straight, stoned on his pills, shows her an obituary for Jeremy Bentham, she says that he came to her, she heard what he had to say, she knew that he was crazy, but Jack believed him, Jack says that he said it was the only way to keep her and Aaron safe, Kate slaps Jack, says not to say his name, that she has to explain why he's not there to read to Aaron, that she spent the last three years trying to forget all the horrible things that happened on the day they left the island, how dare he ask her to go back. 2. Jack and Sawyer walking through the jungle, Jack says Lapidus said they were heading North East, to The Orchid, they stumble upon Hugo taking a leak, Locke is looking for a way into The Orchid.

There is enough C4 to blow up an aircraft, Desmond says he did 6 months Explosive Ordinance Disposal, enough time to learn how to blow himself up, Michael asks if it's on a timer, Desmond says the bomb has a radio receiver, like a walkie, send out a signal and it triggers the bomb remotely, Jin wonders if they can turn it off, but Desmond says there is a trip wire, movie it and boom, dummy-wiring, cut the wrong one and boom, multiple firing systems, disable one and the next one, boom, battery's power source gets disconnected, then boom.
4. Locke says there's a DHARMA station below, that he's looking for a way to get in, says that he wants to speak to Jack alone, but Jack says that he only came back for Hurley, Locke says he needs to hear what he has to say, but Jack says he needs to get their people off the island, Hurley says they're taking Ben to the helicopter, that he surrendered himself.From Lostpedia

Keamy is taking Ben back to the chopper, he wants to know why Ben is so important, why Widmore would pay him so much money to capture him and bring him back alive, Lapidus with toolbox, Kate runs up, says she's a passenger of Flight 815, that she's being chased by Ben's people, they hear whispers, Sayid and company attack, kill Keamy's men, Ben and Kate run, Keamy kicks a grenade toward Omar, Sayid fights Keamy, Richard shoots him, Kate cuts Ben free, he asks Richard what the arrangement is, Richard says if they helped free him, he promised to let them off the island, Ben says the helicopter is theirs, tells Kate and Sayid to have a safe journey back, Kate makes sure that they can leave the island, that's it.

Ben shows up, shows them the way to get into The Orchid, Locke says he tried to tell Jack, Ben tells Jack that Sayid and Kate are waiting at the helicopter, Locke tells Jack that if he lies half as well as he lies to himself, he'll do a good job at fooling everyone, Locke and Ben go down to The Orchid.
13. Sun says she didn't tell anyone about the bomb, Michael tells her everything is going to be okay, says he'll send Jin up, Sun tells Michael she's pregnant, Michael congratulates her.
14. Michael says that they can freeze the battery on the bomb, using liquid Nitrogen, the bomb needs to charge from the battery, to make the chemical reaction, they spray the battery, keep it cold, then it will have no reaction, the catch is that there's only one canister of liquid Nitrogen, when the light turns red, the battery will already be cold, Jin and Desmond begin to trace the wires so they can figure out how to defuse the bomb in the meantime.
15. Daniel Faraday is back, he says the Freighter's engine is fixed, they're going to get closer to island now, as close as they can without hitting the reef, the next trip won't be so long, he tells Miles and Charlotte to make sure they're on the raft, but Miles says he's staying, and he asks Charlotte why she would want to leave the island after all the time she spent trying to get back there, Charlotte seems confused and asks what that means.
16. "I'm surprised you want to leave." Miles "Sorry?" Charlotte "It's just weird. You know, after all that time you spent trying to get back here." Miles "What do you mean, get back here?" Charlotte "...What do I mean?" Miles
17. Ben says The Orchid station is deep, Locke asks about the magic box, Ben says The Orchid is not the magic box, that it's for the same thing all the DHARMA stations are for, silly experiments, Ben gives Locke a video to watch while he takes care of business.

1. We return to the flashforward scene from the end of Through the Looking Glass, "The Rattlesnake in the Mailbox," if you will, and resume where they left off, after Kate drove away from Jack. Turns out she stopped the car, and Jack's beard got some Just for Men in the meantime. The plane that flies over them has also mysteriously disappeared.
2. It would be really funny if LOST or a fan made a video of Jack saying "We have to go back!" and Kate driving away, only to stop the car, go back and say "We have to go back? We have to go back?" then getting back in her car, driving away, Jack screams again "We have to go back!" and rinse and repeat.
   
3. The fact that no one visited Walt after they left the island is really sad.
4. Every time Locke says "it's not an island," I always think he's going to say something completely crazy after that, like "It's purgatory" or "We're living on a giant turtle shell!"
   
5. I still have nightmares about Sun's heart-wrenching screams. Seriously, superb acting by Yunjin Kim.
6. Upon seeing this the first time, I totally never expected the Penny and Desmond reunion to happen so soon. I don't think anyone did. It was a really great surprise in this episode at the time, though it only made me feel doomed for the end of their story. I expected this to happen toward the end of the series. I also thought that maybe the writers should have left their story at that, instead of stringing Desmond along in Season 5, and most likely Season 6. Unless Desmond makes a surprising comeback and we finally find out why he really is so special, I believe they should have let Desmond and Penny's story end happily, and at the height of the viewer's interest.
7. I absolutely was not expecting Penny to show up in this episode. After The Constant, I think that was the most anyone expected for a Desmond and Penny reunion for a while, so The Searcher showing up in this episode totally caught me off guard. So glad it did though. I think that scene is probably one of the biggest payoffs in LOST thus far.
8. I always thought Hurley saying "Checkmate, Mr. Eko" and Mr. Eko not being there was really cheap and so lame. They shouldn't have done it if they weren't going to get the actor for that scene.They should've done it with an actor who could've been there or not done it at all. Considering, we see Charlie when Hurley sees Charlie, it's kind of a cop-out to not have Mr. Eko actually there.
9. So, Walt is like 25 now? Seriously.
10. I was really disappointed when Hurley didn't give Walt the money he owed him from losing backgammon.
11. From Lostpedia: Hurley is seen opening a Fruit Roll-Up with the words "Molly Fisher" on it, where the name of the flavor should be. "Molly Fisher" is the name of a mysterious rock in Kent, Connecticut, near a body of water known as the Hatch pond. It appears to have inscriptions of ruins and hieroglyphs that have yet to be deciphered.

13. While Locke is watching the Orientation video for The Orchid, the tape starts to rewind, and if you watch closely, Locke also starts to rewind. It's pretty cool. I remember catching this the first time it aired.
14. The scene where the rafties discover The Searcher, the light coming toward them, they scream for it, is very reminiscent of the scene in Exodus, Part 2, where the others come upon Michael, Walt, Jin and Sawyer on the raft.
15. The conversation that Jack and Locke have at The Orchid is very reminiscent, and even references the very same conversation they had in Exodus, Part 2.
    
16. Jeremy Bentham was influenced by John Locke and David Hume. That was a big clue that it was John Locke who was in the coffin. 
17. The scene where Sun tells Michael that she's pregnant is so awkward. I don't know why they had to throw that in there. Michael and Sun did not have an affair. Michael ain't Sun's baby daddy. Enough already.
18. Jack is an idiot. After everything he's seen on the island, he still says that it's just an island, and even denies the islands disappearance after witnessing it with his own eyes. He's always in denial. He needs to man up and admit that Locke was actually right about what he was saying at The Orchid. Plus, I love the dig by Locke.
    
19. This episode really seemed like the series finale, because, since the beginning of the show, most people assumed that they show would end with them getting off the island. However, I think Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse's decision to show us that well-before the ending is a pretty awesome and ballsy move. They show us that they get off the island first, then they show us what happens to them off the island, then how they got off the island. I really appreciate the clever, non-linear story-telling. It makes the story so much more interesting, than say, a show like--cough--HEROES.
20. The Casimir Effect states that the same matter cannot occupy the same space, e.g. when traveling through time, you cannot come into contact with your former or future self.
21. Keamy's "life insurance policy" would never get a signal that deep underground, and then send it out to a boat that's miles away. Completely unrealistic, but I'll roll with the punches.
22. Ben murdering Keamy via about a million stabbings disturbs the hell out of me.
23. I really don't like the way that they handled the killing off of Michael's character. Harold Perrineau is one of the biggest reasons that I started watching LOST and I believe he deserved a lot more respect than he got, especially after all the hype of Michael's return to the show, only to have him in a few episodes, and then get killed off at the end of the season.
24. When Ben goes down to the frozen donkey wheel, he falls and cuts his arm on the broken ladder, which is the same cut that is seen in Ben's flashforward in The Shape of Things to Come.
25. The moving of the island is very similar to the effects of Desmond turning the failsafe key in Live Together, Die Alone.
26. The visual effects of the island moving are phenomenal.

30. Jack says "See you in another life, brother" to Desmond as he departs, just as Desmond said to him in Man of Science, Man of Faith.
31. "The Frozen Donkey Wheel" was a codename used by producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, referring to the secret scene in the Season 4 finale. Secret codenames have been used in every finale of LOST thusfar, however, this episode literally featured a frozen donkey wheel. Although, "The Frozen Donkey Wheel" was used as a deference from the actual surprisingly secret-ending scene of John Locke being revealed as Jeremy Bentham and the man in the coffin.
    
32. As not to spoil the viewers for the final scene in this episode, several alternate scenes where shot, one with Sawyer in the coffin as Jeremy Bentham and one with Desmond as well. So glad it wasn't Desmond! Although, John Locke is really the only one that would have made sense and I can't believe I didn't see it sooner. Who else would Jack be so distraught over, leaving Kate baffled about it? It all makes sense now.

During San Diego Comic-Con, in 2007, a video was shown of outtakes from Dr. Edgar Halliwax filming The Orchid Orientation film. If you watch and listen closely, something very interesting seems to happen while filming this Orientation video for the DHARMA Initiative.



Here is the actual Orientation film from The Orchid, shown in this episode. If you watch closely, you can see John Locke literally rewind himself along with the VHS Orientation film involuntarily rewinding itself.
