4.12 There's No Place Like Home, Part 1

1. Cockpit of a plane, one Pilot says it's choppy ahead, the co-pilot is holding a rabbit's foot, talks about the cargo, says it's bad mojo, Ms. Decker, say she'll let them know they're landing, she tells Jack, Kate, Aaron, Sun, Hurley and Sayid that they're landing at a Military Facility just West of Honolulu, it's private, their families are already there, there's a lot of press that wants to talk to them, but as far as Oceanic is concerned, they don't have to speak to any reporters, but Jack says they'll talk, that they agreed, that they just want to get it over with, Ms. Decker says that the press is referring to them as the Oceanic 6, that it's not the best branding as far as they're concerned, but it's catchy. 2. Jack says that they all know the story, if there's any questions that they don't or can't answer, to keep their mouths shut, that they'll think they're on shock, Sun says that they are in shock.
3. The plane is landing, US Coast Guard #1717, Hurley is greeted by David and Carmen Reyes, Sun greeted by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paik, Jack is greeted by his mother, Margo Shephard, no one is there for Kate or Sayid, Hurley introduces Sayid to his parents, Kate holds Aaron and stands there alone, looking around. Rose says the helicopter flying overhead must've been Sayid and Desmond, Sun wonders why they wouldn't land, Jack says they have to follow them, Sun wonders why they can't call, so Jack asks Dan to call, but not to do anything stupid, they hear the Freighties and Frank, putting the helicopter down, five clicks away from the site, when they land, they're going to deploy to The Orchid, Juliet says she didn't hear Desmond or Sayid, Jack asks Kate to go for a walk, Juliet says Jack shouldn't go, that if his sutures rip, he won't be fine, but Jack says he promised those people they would get off the Island.
5. Daniel looks through his notebook, he finds information about The Orchid, he tells Charlotte that they're using the secondary protocol, that they have to get off the Island immediately. From Lostpedia
   
6. Kate and Jack are catching up, Jack says the chopper must've landed, Jack's surgical wound is bleeding, he says it's just discharge, Kate says that most people who lie can't look you in the eye, Jack does the opposite, they hear someone coming toward them.
7. Sawyer, Miles and Aaron run into Jack and Kate in the jungle, Sawyer tells them they lost Claire, that she walked off in the middle of the night, they've been looking for a day, they were hoping she went back to the beach, Jack says they're following the chopper, hoping it's Sayid, Sawyer says he hopes it's not Sayid, because the people from the Freighter just blew up half of New Ortherton, just like Locke said they would, Jack says the helicopter is the only way to get off the Island, that he put Sayid and Desmond on that chopper, that it was his call, his responsibility, that he's going after it whether on it or not Sayid and Desmond are on it, Sawyer tells Kate to take care of baby, Sawyer goes with Jack, tells him he doesn't get to die alone.
8. Ms. Decker leads a press conference, she shows maps of the location of the wreckage, best estimate of crash site, survivors were carried by the ocean's current to an uninhabited island in the lesser Sunda Islands, Membata, on day 103, a typhoon washed up the remnants of an Indonesian fishing boat, including basic supplies, a survival raft, on day 108, the remaining 6 survivors, including Austen's baby, who she gave birth to on island of Membata, used raft to journey to an island called Sumba, came ashore near a village, Manukangga, photo was taken by the local fisherman who found them, once discovered who they were, they were transported to Honolulu by US Coast Guard, has been an extraordinarily trying experience, but they have agreed to answer a few questions, she introduces the survivors of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815. A reporter asks Dr. Shephard, what it was like when the plane hit the ocean, how they survived, Jack says it happened fast, he remembers the impact, the plane filling with water, a group of them got to the emergency exit, got out before it went down, the reporter asks if they swam to the island, Jack says they used cushions, life jackets, they were in the water for over a day before the current took them in, by then there were only 8 left, the reporter asks what happened to the other three, Jack says Boone Carlyle, suffered tremendous internal injuries, died a few days after the crash, a woman, Libby didn't make it through the first week, Charlie Pace drowned a few weeks before they were able to leave.
10. A reporter comments that considering all they've been through, being on an island for over 100 days, they look healthy, Hurley asks if that was directed at him, but the reporter then says Mr. Reyes, was worth more than 150 million dollars before his death, how does it feel to know he'll get it back, but Hurley says he doesn't want it back, says the money was bad luck.
11. A reporter speaks in Korean, Sun translates, she asked if her husband was one of the people that died on island, Sun hesitates and looks at Jack, then says no, he never made off the plane.
12. A reporter asks Mr. Jarrah, if he's aware of the situation in Iraq, if he plans to return, but Sayid says that there's nothing for him in Iraq.
13. A reporter asks Mr. Shephard, now that he's home, what are his plans, Jack says his father died in Sydney, he was bringing him home for the funeral when the plane crashed, even though there's no body, he's like to put him to rest.
14. A reporter asks Ms. Austen, what like giving birth on island, Kate says it was scary, the reporter asks, her son, Aaron, how old is he, Kate says he's a little over five weeks old, the reporter says that would make her 6 months pregnant when the US Marshal apprehended her in Australia for an outstanding murder warrant, Ms. Dekker says that Ms. Austen's legal issue is off the table.
15. A reporter asks Mr. Jarrah, given the amazing circumstances of the survival of the Oceanic 6, if it's possible there are any other survivors from the crash that are yet to be discovered, Sayid says absolutely not.
16. Jack says they did good, Ms. Decker tells Sayid that a woman is outside, says she knows him, but she's not on the list of family members, her name is Noor Abed Jaseem.
17. Nadia is waiting outside for Sayid, he sees her, he's shocked, blinks to see if he's dreaming, they kiss. From Lostpedia

Sayid takes the zodiac to the island, tells Sun that Desmond is on the freighter, he's going to take people back six at a time, that they have to go right now, before the helicopter gets back to the boat, Juliet asks why they have to go to the boat before the chopper gets back, Sayid says the men on the helicopter have every intention of killing them all, Juliet says that Jack and Kate just went after it.
19. Hurley asks when they're going to tell him where they're going, Ben says it's a place called The Orchid, a greenhouse, they're going to move the island, Hurley asks how they're going to do it, Ben says very carefully, Hurley says if you could move the island whenever you wanted, why not do it before the people from the freighter got there, Ben says that doing it is both dangerous and unpredictable, that it's a last resort.
20. Ben stops, gets something that's hidden behind a rock, it's a box, Locke opens it, in the box is crackers, which Hurley takes, a mirror, Ben says the crackers are fifteen years old, and binoculars, Ben uses the mirror to flash Morse Code message to someone on the mountain, he says he's communicating, he gets a message back, says now they can go, Locke asks what he told them, but Ben says it's none of his business. Daniel Faraday says that they need to get people off the island, that he can ferry people back and forth, while Sayid goes after Jack, he can get them there safely, and by the time Sayid gets back, he can have most of the people on the boat, Sayid agrees, says he guesses Dan knows the bearing, Dan says he can take the first group of six people, Juliet says that Sun is pregnant and she should go on the zodiac first, Kate arrives and asks Sayid what he's doing there, says Jack thought he was on the helicopter, Sayid says he knows, that he's going after him, Kate says she doesn't know how far ahead he Jack is, but he's with Sawyer, and she left them about an hour ago, she says Jack has a satellite phone, they're headed for the helicopter, that she can track them, Sayid says they should go, Kate gives Aaron to Sun, who asks where Claire is, Kate tells her to get Aaron on the boat, to keep him safe, Jin, Sun and Aaron get on the zodiac, they leave. Sun is pregnant, she goes to visit her dad, Mr. Paik, at Paik Heavy Industries, her father is talking to his business associates, asks how something could happen, says whoever did it, used five different banks, the men leave, he tells Sun there's complications with the company, nothing she'd understand, asks about pregnancy, Sun says that he shouldn't pretend to be interested, that they both know he hated her husband, Mr. Paik gets angry and says that she will respect him, Sun says that Oceanic paid a settlement for the crash, that it was very significant, that morning she bought a controlling interest in his company, now he has to respect her, he asks why should would do it, Sun says he ruined her husband's life, because of him he was on that plane, that two people are responsible for his death, and he is one of them, that she's going to have her baby, then they'll discuss plans for the future of the company, our company.
23. Hurley drives up to his house in his jalopy, has a bag from Mr. Cluck's, calls for his mom and dad, coconut on the floor, he hears whispers, sounds like the whispers from the island, but it's just a surprise party, it's his Birthday, Kate and Aaron are there, Kate says Jack is running late, Sayid and Nadia are there, Sayid is wearing a wedding ring, the party has an island-theme, Hurley says mom doesn't get it, a DJ is playing music, there's a Geronimo Jackson record, kids wearing jerseys with the numbers 42 and 23, dad wants to show Hurley his present, he fixed the car, the Camaro, worked on it as a memorial to him, gives him a rabbit foot keychain, the numbers 4815162342 are on the odometer, Hurley freaks out, says he doesn't want it, and he runs away.

24. Hurley says if they actually move the island, the dudes with guns will still be on it, says it's a problem, Ben says that he's working on it, but Hurley asks about him, says that he still wants to get off it, Locke says that it's a little late for that.
25. Ben uses the binoculars, says they're at The Orchid, says Charles Widmore knows about The Orchid, that they need what's inside, Locke says Ben said he didn't know why Widmore was trying to find the island, Ben says he wasn't being entirely truthful, shows Locke that Widmore's men are already there.
26. The zodiac gets to the Freighter, Desmond sees Sun and Aaron, but no Claire, Dan tells Desmond that Sayid went after Jack, he heads back for next group.
27. Michael says the engine fixed, sends Desmond to tell Hendricks to try it, Sun and Jin discover that Michael is on the Freighter, Desmond goes to Hendricks, says the engine should be working, to take them to the Island, but stay on the bearing of 305, but Hendricks says there's RF interference with the fathometer, he can't see the reef, Desmond says that not possible because the radio room is down, Hendricks says that something on the boat is broadcasting, that he can't get closer than five miles off the coast.
28. Jack tells Sawyer that Juliet took out his appendix, they get to the helicopter, find Frank Lapidus, says he's the one who dropped the satellite phone, so they could find him and he could fly them out of there, that they have to get off the island, the boat is the safest place to be, men from the freighter went to the greenhouse, to find Benjamin Linus, and they're going to do nothing good with people that are with him, Sawyer says that Huge is with Ben.
29. Jack speaking, Christian Shephard's funeral, he says that ten months ago he wrote what he was going to say at his father's funeral on the back of a cocktail napkin in the Sydney Airport, that he would've hated it, he hated eulogies, that he's saying it not for his father, but for him, he says bye to his dad, that he loved him, that he misses him. 30. "About ten months ago, I wrote what I wanted to say at my father's funeral on the back of a cocktail napkin at the Sydney airport. 31. Jack is saying goodbye to people at the door, his mom says she'll see him back at the house, that he loves him, Kate is there with Aaron, says he did well, Jack says that he had a lot of practice.
32. A woman approaches Jack, asks to have a word with him, says that she's sorry for his loss, that she knew his father, that she's the reason he was in Australia when he died, she was in the hospital, she never saw him, he came to see his daughter, her daughter, Jack says he didn't have a daughter, but the woman says that the strange thing about it is that her daughter was on his plane too, they were in the air for six hours, probably just a few rows apart and they never knew, she was one of the ones who died when they hit the water, that her name was Claire, says she didn't mean to burden him, she says the he needed to know, she's sorry for his loss, she tells Kate that her son is beautiful, Kate thanks her. 33. "I believe I'm the reason he was in Australia when he died." Carole "I'm sorry. I don't understand. Why would he have come to see you?" Jack "Oh, he... he didn't come to see me. Sun asks Michael how he got back to New York, Michael says that Walt and him took the boat, followed the bearing, after a couple of days, they came to an Island, he sold the boat, hopped a cargo ferry back to the states, didn't tell anyone who they were, Sun asks if he works for Ben, but Michael says that he doesn't' work for Ben, that he's trying to help them, trying to make up for what he did.
35. Desmond needs Michael, they all go, Jin tells Sun to leave,  a room is filled with C4 explosives.
36. Kate says the tracks are not Jack or Sawyer, that someone is doubling back, Sayid yells for them to come out, it's Richard, he says to drop the guns, others show up with guns, Kate and Sayid surrender. From Lostpedia

Locke sees two of the men from the freighter, but not the one who killed Alex, Ben says he's there, gives Locke his baton, tells him to listen carefully, there's no time to repeat, says to go into the greenhouse, turn left, go twenty paces, patch of Anthuriums on the left, alcove on the North wall, face the wall, reach down with left hand, there's a switch that actives the elevator, takes you down to the actual Orchid station, Ben says he'll take care of the men, that he always has a plan, he leaves.
38. "Listen to me very carefully, John, because I'm not gonna have time to repeat this. You're gonna go into that greenhouse through that hole there. Once inside, you're gonna turn left. Go about 20 paces until you see a patch of Anthuriums on your left. They're in an alcove against the north wall. Face the wall, reach down with your left hand. You'll find a switch that activates the elevator. The elevator takes you down to the actual Orchid station." Ben
39. Everyone is in different places of the island, Ben surrenders, Keamy points a gun at him, then knocks him out.

1. The reunion is such an iconic scene that we've all been waiting for since Season 1, and the antithesis of the beginning of the Series, just one that we probably all thought would happen at the very end, not in Season 4. 
   
2. I totally knew who Jack's mom, Margo Shephard, was. She was in White Rabbit.
3. Kate looks around when they get off the plane because she's wondering if someone is there to arrested her.
   
4. Karen Decker was Admiral Cain from Battlestar Galactica. Nice!
5. The plane lands in Hawaii, where they actually film the show.
   
6. Jack can never have Locke be right about anything, can he?
7. Uh, Kate, I don't know if you've noticed, but Jack and Sawyer are always fighting eachother. Mostly over you. You're part of the problem.
8. There is so much information in the Oceanic press conference scene. 
9. Membata is Indonesian for ambivalent.
10. I find it hard to believe that anyone buys that Kate was six months pregnant before she got on the plane.
11. When Sun translate the Korean-speaking reporters question, her parents give her a weird look, this is because they do no know that she can speak English. However, she can kind of just pass that off as living on an island for over 100 days with people who are constantly speaking English.
    
12. The whole story of the Oceanic 6 makes no sense.
13. Naveen Andrews' acting in the scene where he sees Nadia is just outstanding. He blinks his eyes as if he wants to see if he's dreaming or not, and he's too much in shock to even kiss her. That's real. It's not a love-story happy-ending reunion that most television shows and movies have. If that really happened, anyone would be too much in shock to even do anything.
14. You can't fool me, I knew exactly who Noor Abed Jaseem was.
15. Sawyer refers to the barracks as New Otherton, which is Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse's nickname for the barracks.
16. From Lostpedia: Hurley's birthday party scene contained the following "Easter eggs": 4 palm trees on the lanai, 8 helium balloons tied by the pool, 15 presents on the lanai table, 16 party hats worn by background individuals, 23 & 42 were the Numbers on the jerseys worn on the 2 boys crossing over the pool right after the DJ was shown.
17. When Hurley's dad, David Reyes, mentions hunting boar on the island, Sayid and Nadia look at eachother as if he knows something in which he shouldn't. This indicates that Hurley has told his dad about the Island, but also that Sayid has told Nadia about the Island, which could mean that he told her everything, and may be why she ultimately died. 
18. Sun is so badass when she goes to stick it to her father. I wish she was like that all the time.
19. Frank says that the boat is the safest place to be. Wrong.
    
20. Jack says that he had a lot of practice with funerals, obviously he means all of the people that died on the island.
21. Jack finding out that Claire is his sister is much like Luke finding out that Leia is his sister in Star Wars.
22. Of course Kate's son is beautiful, Carole Littleton, because he's Claire's son, your grandson!
    

4.11 Cabin Fever

1. Record player, Buddy Holly's "Everyday" is playing, it's the 1950s, a young girl getting ready, tells mom she's going out with him, that mom can't stop her, mom says he's twice her age, calls her Emily, says she loves him, runs out of house and is hit by a car, goes to hospital, says she's pregnant, five months, almost six months, the baby is born, it's a boy, nurse says he's okay, but it's real early, he's too little to hold, they take him away, Emily says to call him John. She is Emily Locke and the baby is John Locke.From Lostpedia
2. Hurley asks who builds a cabin in the middle of the jungle, Locke says he doesn't know, says hopefully the man in the cabin will tell them about the people trying to kill them, Ben says he's following Hurley, Locke says they should stop and make camp, says he doesn't know what will happen when the Freighties come back to the Island.
3. Sayid wakes Desmond, says the helicopter is back with injured men, Keamy wants to know how many people are on the Island, where they are, says the Captain gave him up, but the Captain says no, Keamy goes after Michael, says he gave his name to Ben, tries to shoot him, but nothing happens, Captain says he's only the guy who can fix the engine.
4. Locke's eye opens, by the campfire, Ben and Hurley are asleep, he hears someone chopping wood, introduces himself, Horace Goodspeed, wearing a DHARMA Initiative jumpsuit, knocks down the tree, building a getaway for he and the misses, needs a break from the DI, says he's not making sense, bloody nose, says that's probably because he's been dead 12 years, pushes over tree again, he's on a loop, "Hello, there," he says to find him, when he does, he'll find "him," Jacob, says he's been waiting for Locke a real long time, chopping, pushes over the tree again.From Lostpedia
5. Locke wakes up again, says he knows where to go now, Ben says that he used to have dreams.
6. John Locke is the youngest premature baby to ever survive in that Hospital, he's had infections, pneumonia, you name it, he's knocked them all out, nurse says, he's a fighter, they say he's a miracle baby, today they can take him out of incubator, so she can hold him, but Emily can't do it, leaves, mother asks about adoption, Richard Alpert is in the Hospital, watching, she says he's not the father, doesn't know who he is.From Lostpedia
7. Hurley asks why he's here, Locke says he can see the cabin, Hurley says he has a theory, they can see it because they're the craziest, Locke asks Hurley if he wonders where DHARMA Initiative went, says they're all gone, disappeared, going to see them, Ben happened.
8. "You ever wonder what happened to the DHARMA Initiative, Hugo? There must have been at least a hundred of 'em living on this island--manning the stations, building those homes, making all that ranch dressing that you like. And then one day, they're all gone. Richard goes to see John, he's playing backgammon, Richard says he runs a school for kids who are extremely special, thinks he's one of them, asks to show him some neat things, we see drawing of Locke and the Smoke Monster, Richard asks if he drew it, John says yes, Richard shows him a baseball mitt, Book of Laws, sand, compass, comic book, knife, tells him to look at the things and think about them, asks him which things belong to him, John asks to keep, but Richard says no, which ones belong to him already, Locke picks the sand, compass, hesitates, and then picks the knife, Richard asks if he's sure about the knife belonging to him, John says yes, but Richard says it doesn't, tells mom he's not ready for the school, says he's sorry he wasted her time, she asks Locke what he did wrong.From Lostpedia

3. The search and tests for the leader of the Island given by Richard Alpert is much like the Tibetan Buddhist ritual for the choice of the Dalai Lama. The Panchen Lama chooses the Dalai Lama, which is much like Richard Alpert's role. I'm guessing that Jacob chose Richard as the Panchen. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama also chooses the Panchen. So, which came first, the Panchen or the Dalai, the chick or the egg?
   
4. Richard Alpert gave young Locke the same compass that he gave him on the Island, which John then returned back to him in the past, which Richard then shows him in this episode.

He was abandoned by his Biological Mother, then his adoptive Mother is mean to him, Richard Alpert is snappy with hm, get gets beat up in high school, made fun of, and stuffed in a locker, and then he has to go through grueling Physical Therapy after getting thrown eight stories out of a window from his own father.
8. Locke is locked in a locker. He likes boxing. Very funny.
9. The way that Matthew Abaddon says "Mr. Locke" is just like Walt. This led to theories that this is future Walt, which is obviously impossible, but still cool.
10. The scene where Matthew Abaddon pushes John Locke in his wheelchair to a flight of stairs and stops totally freaks me out. Every time I watch it, I think he's going to push him down the flight of stairs. That scene just creeps me the hell out.
    
11. Terry O'Quinn's acting in the Physical Therapy scenes is so great. He doesn't use his legs at all. He really makes you feel his pain and believe that he's paralyzed.
12. John Locke finally takes Matthew Abaddon's advice and goes on a walkabout in Walkabout.
    
13. Claire clearly had been smoking some illegal substances in that cabin. She also freaks me out in that scene.
    

4.05 The Constant

1. The helicopter is flying back to the freighter, Desmond looks at his photograph of Penny.
2. Frank is flying the helicopter, looks at his notes from Daniel, 40 N at bearing 305, 7 Kilometers, Sayid asks what it is, Frank says that it's a cheat-sheet.
3. A storm forms ahead of them, but they're flying straight into it, Sayid asks why, Frank says it's because they have to stay on the bearing.
4. Sayid asks Desmond about Penelope, that she told Charlie she didn't know about the boat, asks what he expects to find when he gets to the freighter, Desmond says answers.
5. They hit some turbulence in the storm, lightning strikes, they go slightly off the bearing, to 310, Frank struggles to take control of the helicopter. From Lostpedia
6. Frank tells them to hold on, Desmond holds on to his seat, gripping it, and suddenly he is transported to when he was in the Royal Scottish Regiment, in a Military barrack, gripping onto the side of his bed, a Drill Sergeant calling orders, telling them to get up, Desmond appears to be disoriented, confused, but gets out of bed slowly. Back in the storm, on the helicopter, Desmond is confused, Frank says they're almost through it, they see daylight, Desmond is disoriented, doesn't know where he is, is trying to get out of the helicopter, unbuckle his seat-belt, but Sayid is trying to help him, hold him back, but Desmond doesn't recognize Sayid, asks who he is, how he knows his name. Jack is worried, says they took of a day ago, Charlotte says she doesn't know anything, Juliet says they're not worried, that their boat is 40 miles off-shore, it should have only taken them 20 minutes to get there, Dan says they should just tell him, but Charlotte says not to get them confused, Jack and Juliet insist, Dan says that their perception of how long they've been gone may not be exactly how long they've actually been gone, that it will be okay as long as they stay on the bearing, and if not, there may be side-effects.

Desmond is confused, keeps trying to get out of the helicopter, Sayid is trying to help him, hold him back, tells him to sit down, that they're at 2,000 feet, but Desmond keeps asking what he's doing there, how he knows his name, but Frank tells Sayid to just hold on to him, that they'll be there in 2 minutes, and the helicopter gets to the freighter, The Kahana. Desmond is loading a truck, he tells his friend, Billy, that he left, he was on a boat, then he was back there, right where he started, Billy asks who else was on the boat, if there was anyone he recognized, Desmond says Penny was on the boat, that he had a photograph, and Penny was in the photo.
18. Desmond goes to a phone booth to call her, an angry soldier comes out and bumps into him purposely, saying thank you for that morning, and Desmond drops his change on the ground, going to pick it up.
19. Desmond is back on the freighter, trying to pick up his change on the deck, but nothing is there, Desmond says he's not there, doesn't believe this is happening, Keamy and Omar take him to the sickbay.
20. Desmond asks them who they are, Keamy says he's from Vegas and Omar is from Florida, they last ported Fiji, that at least they know they're in the Pacific, they put Desmond in the sickbay, saying they're going to get the doctor, that he'll ask him questions and try to sort everything out, they lock him in there.
21. Desmond discovers a man strapped down to the bed in the sickbay, the man asks if it's happening to him too.
22. Sayid asks Frank what's happening to Desmond, but Frank doesn't know, Sayid asks why they took off at dusk and landed on the freighter in the middle of the day, Frank says he's trying to help him, Sayid asks for a satellite phone to call his friends, Frank wants Sayid's weapon for the phone, he gives it to him.
23. Sayid calls Jack, tells him something happened during the flight, Desmond is in their sickbay, Jack puts him on speaker phone, Sayid says that Desmond doesn't recognize him or know where he is, Jack asks if that's the side-effects, Dan wants to know if Desmond has been exposed to high levels of radiation or electromagnetism, he says that they don't know why, but going to and coming form the island, some people can get a little confused, Juliet asks if it's amnesia, but Daniel says no.
24. Desmond tries to talk to the man in the sickbay, but he appears to be staring blankly into space, he suddenly blinks, becomes lucid, says he was just on a Ferris Wheel.
25. The doctor, Ray, comes in, the man strapped to the bed says it's happening to Desmond too, that he's not crazy, that it's going to happen to all of them once they start heading to the island again, but Ray draws a needle and injects him, which relaxes him immediately.
26. Desmond says he's not giving him that too, but Ray says he just wants to check Desmond's eyes, so he can help him, he asks his name, the last thing that he remembers. From Lostpedia

Desmond is transported back to the phone booth, picking up his change on the ground, he calls Penny, he tells her he's in trouble, that he thinks something's happened to him, he's confused, that he needs to see her, she says he broke up with her and joined the Army, and now he expects that she still cares about him, that he is confused, Desmond says he has 2 days leave starting tonight, asks if he can come see her, but she says no, that she moved from the flat, so don't bother showing up there, that it doesn't matter where, not to call her again, he tells her "Penny, I need--

Daniel talks to Desmond, says they met yesterday before they took off, but he's guessing he doesn't remember that, Desmond doesn't remember taking off or the island, Daniel asks Desmond what year he thinks it is, Desmond if confused but this questions, he says it's 1996, Daniel asks where he's supposed to be in 1996, Desmond says Camp Millar, Royal Scots Regiment, just North of Glasgow, Daniel tells him that when it happens again, to get on a train and go to Oxford University, Queens College, Psychics Department, Desmond questions why, Daniel says he needs Desmond to find him.

Daniel looks for his notebook, says he needs to find it or he won't believe him, Jack wants to know why Desmond thinks it's 1996, Daniel tells him that he doesn't know, that it's a random effect, it's unpredictable, that sometimes it's for a couple of hours, other times it's years, Jack asks if it's happened before. 37. Desmond tells Daniel to set his device to 2.342 and to make sure it oscillates at 11 Hertz, Daniel asks who told him those numbers, Desmond says that he told him, Daniel says it's ridiculous, but Desmond says that he knows about Eloise, which gets Daniel's attention. From Lostpedia
38. Daniel takes Desmond to his lab, says it's where he does the things that Oxford frowns upon, asks that the future version of him referenced their meeting, so he would remember Desmond coming to Oxford, but Desmond says no, that maybe he just forgot.

40. Daniel puts on a radiation vest, Desmond asks what it's for, if he gets one, but Daniel tells Desmond he only needs it for prolonged exposure, that he does it 20 times a day, but Desmond asks why he then doesn't protect his head, Daniel flicks some switches.
41. Daniel shows Desmond Eloise, a rat, says that if the numbers Desmond gave him are correct, the machine will unstick Eloise in time, just like him.

Daniel places Eloise at the beginning of a maze, puts his machine on her, presses a button and a red ray of light consumes her, Desmond asks what happened, but Daniel says she's not back yet, when Eloise comes to, Daniel releases Eloise into the maze and she goes through it without a mistake, Daniel says it's perfect, that it worked, it's incredible, but Desmond questions what's so wonderful about it, Daniel says that he just finished the maze that morning, that he's not going to teach her how to run it until an hour from then, Desmond says that she traveled to the future, but Daniel says that it's only her consciousness, her mind that traveled to the future. Minkowski says that 2 days ago, someone sabotaged all the equipment, they lost all communication with the mainland, that he probably could have fixed it, but then he went nuts, Sayid asks where the radio room is, Minkowski says it's one deck up, that he will help them, they wonder how they will get out, but Minkowski says through the door, which is now suddenly opened, Minkowski says they must have a friend on the boat, but his nose then begins to bleed.

Desmond approaches Widmore, says he needs to have a word him, Widmore tells him to walk with him, they go into a bathroom, Desmond says he needs to get in touch with Penny, that he doesn't know how to reach her, her number has been disconnected, Widmore says that there was a time, if he'd asked her to marry him, he's certain she would have said yes, but that his cowardice won out instead, that he's had second thoughts, he he wants her to give him another chance, Desmond asks why he hates him so much, but Widmore says it's not him who hates him, gives him Penny's address, says she'll tell him herself.
60. Widmore leaves the faucet in the bathroom on, and Desmond goes to turn it off, but then flashes back to the freighter.
61. Minkowski tells Desmond that he knows it's getting harder, that it starts happening faster too, they start to head to the radio room.

Desmond asks Minkowski how this happened to him, he says the freighter was anchored there, they were waiting for orders, bored out of their minds, that him and one of the other crew members, Brandon, took out the ship's tender, wanted to see the island, but Brandon started acting crazy, they had to turn around, tells them that he's dead now, in a body bag.

They get to the communications room, Sayid asks Minkowski who destroyed the equipment, he says he doesn't know, but then he collapses, Desmond catches him, Sayid says that after he makes the call, he wants to know what exactly is going on, he asks Desmond if he has the number, Minkowski starts having a seizure, Desmond tries to get him to wake up, but he doesn't.

Notes:

1. If this isn't my favorite episode of all time, it's definitely in my top 3. But it still may very well be my favorite when the series comes to an end.
2. Every time I watch this episode, I feel like I am Desmond.
3. The editing in this episode is phenomonal. When the scences cut from Desmond in the helicopter and on the freighter, to 1996, you almost feel as if you're living it yourself. When he falls down walking down the stairs, and then he's immediately falling down on the boat, and then when he's talking to Penny on the freighter and looking back, recognizing the situation when he's at her house in 1996, with a smirk on his face beacuse he knows he finally talks to her again in 8 years. The transitions are smooth, with wonderful acting by Henry Ian Cusick, just pure perfection.
4. The Desmond and Penny story is by far the best relationship only the show. It's the only one that I actually like. I believe that Desmond, Penny, and his story, is probably one of the most essential to the story as a whole. Their relationship is the most real, heartbreaking, and most romanticly non-shipper story. Their love is timeless. They're probably two of the most important characters on the show, and I'm not ashamed to admit, this episode made me cry. Desmond finally talking to Penny after 3 years is touching, and you can't help but feel something for him when he finally gets to talk to her.
5. Have I mentioned that I love this episode?
6. Ben gave Michael a bearing of 325 to leave the island, but now it's 305.
7. Oxford University has also been the location of the Monastery where Desmond was a monk, and he met Penny, in Catch-22, and also the church where Charlie confessed to having relations in The Moth.
8. Desmond remembers things in the past because he's traveling to the future, which is why he doesn't remember Sayid and doesn't remember being on the island in the future until he talks to Penny, his constant.
9. Eloise dies before Daniel can teach her how to run the maze because Desmond has already visited him, causing him to teach her how to run it sooner, therefore she doesn't need to be alive when she is going to learn how to run it, because she ends up dying anyway.
10. Daniel giving Desmond the numbers to unstick Eloise in time could possibly not be a paradox because he obviously ended up figuring on the numbers eventually anyway, so it isn't changing anything, just possibly making it happen sooner than it originally did.
11. If George Minkowksi was time-jumping to the future, it would make sense, because he remembered everyting in the present day, and when he dies, it may have been a way of the universe course-correcting as Ms. Hawking said, which wouldn't be a paradox.
12. The music during the Desmond and Penny scenes is bloody amazing.
13. That phone rang for a damn long time, Penny was making a brotha sweat.
