Episode Analysis of 1.11 "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues"

This episode was written by Javier Grillo-Marxuach, and directed by Stephen Williams. It originally aired on December 8th, 2004.

This is a Jack Shephard flashback-centric episode.   

We begin exactly where we left off, in Raised By Another, in the caves, with Sayid unconscious, Hurley telling Jack, who is tending to Sayid's wounds, and Kate, who asks questions, about Ethan not being in the flight manifest, while Locke looks on in the background. The other survivors in the caves begin to become aware of the situation as Jack raises his voice. Michael joins them to talk about Ethan.

HURLEY: "He wasn't on the plane."

KATE: "Who wasn't on the plane?"

HURLEY: "Ethan.. The Canadian guy. He's not on the passenger manifest."

JACK: "Well, where the hell is he?" [He gets up from tending to Sayid's wound.]

HURLEY: "I don't know. I saw him yesterday, but now.."

JACK: [raising his voice] "Has anyone seen Ethan?"

KATE: "Sayid's leg.."

JACK: [talking louder] "Has anyone seen Ethan?"

5.05 This Place is Death

1. At the Long Beach Marina, Sun gets a phone call, it's her mother, she asks where Sun is, she says she's still in Los Angeles, finishing up, she'll be on a plane tomorrow, Ji Yeon wants to say hello, Sun says she met a new friend for her in America, his name is Aaron, Ji Yeon says to come home, she misses her, Sun says soon, she loves her, goodbye. 
2. Sun is watching Jack, Ben, Kate talk, she gets out of car with her gun, Kate tells Ben to leave her and her son alone, Ben says that it's not her son, Sun walks up with her gun, points it at Ben, she tells Kate to move away, Kate is frightened, she asks where Aaron is, Sun says he's in the car, Jack says that he knows Sun thinks she's helping, Sun says if it wasn't for Ben, Jin would still be alive, Ben says he didn't kill her husband, that no one did, because he's not dead, Ben says Jin is still alive and he can prove it. 3. Jin on the beach, with Danielle Rousseau's science team, Montand listening to the transmission of the numbers on his radio, Jin asks Rousseau where she's from, she says they sailed from Tahiti, Jin asks when, she says November 15, Jin says no, what year, she says 1988, she asks why, Jin says he needs to go find his camp, they ask if he was on the island before, Jin asks if they saw a helicopter, Montand says that first it was a boat, then a helicopter, the next thing he'll be talking about a submarine, says he knows which way to go, they're looking for an antenna, they ask Jin if there's an antenna on the island, they show him the radio, antenna, ask him if there's a radio tower, Jin says he must find his camp, because maybe the helicopter went there, Rousseau asks if he knows where his camp is from there, Jin says no, but he does from the radio tower, Rousseau says to go with them to the tower, then find his camp, Jin watches Robert kiss Danielle, Rousseau asks Jin if he's ready to go, who he's hoping to find, Jin says his wife. 4. Walking through the jungle, Montand is listening to transmission still, Rousseau experiences some pain, Robert says that it was a bad idea, she's seven months pregnant, Rousseau says she just gave her a little kick, that it's a girl, Robert says Alexander is going to be a boy, Rousseau says Alexandra is a girl, Robert says to get some water, but Nadine has disappeared, they start to look for her, but Jin hears something, he tells Robert that it's a monster.
5. Rousseau says to find Nadine, they want to look, but Jin says they must go, but they go looking for her anyway, calling Nadine, they find her pack, Robert says to spread out, Brennan, Lacombe, the monster comes toward them, spits Nadine out, Jin says to run, Montand gets approached by the smoke monster, it drags him through the jungle, to The Temple, Robert and Jin grab him, it pulls him underneath, rips off his arm, Robert asks what that thing was, they hear Montand yelling for help from underneath The Temple, Robert says they have to go in and get him, Montand says he's hurt, is calling for their help, Robert says they do not leave anyone behind, they go under, but not Jin and Rousseau, a flash begins to happen, Rousseau asks Jin what's wrong, but Jin disappears in another flash.

6. After the flash happens, Jin is now alone, everyone from Rousseau's science team is gone, he's still at The Temple, there are hieroglyphs on it, he sees the opening underneath, Montand's decaying arm, he leaves, goes through jungle, drinks from a leaf, he sees a pillar of smoke in the distance, he goes toward it.

7. At the beach, scattered with things, a fading fire, a music box is playing, bag, bugs, violin, explosives, hut, two bodies that have been laid to rest, Jin hears someone shouting, Rousseau holding rifle, pointing it at Robert, he tells her to stop, she says that thing changed him, that he's sick, the monster made him sick, Robert says that it's a security system, to put down the gun, he tells Danielle that he loves her, that he doesn't want anything to happen to her, or the baby, she begins to raise her gun, but as soon as she does, he raises his gun, he pulls the trigger to shoot her but the firing pin is missing, she raises her gun and shoots him in the head, she sees Jin on the shore, watching, she says that he disappeared, that he's sick too, she shoots at him, Jin runs into the jungle, another flash happens, he falls down a hill, but Jin still hears someone cocking a gun, then Sawyer's voice, they reunite, Sawyer says he thought Jin was on the boat, thought he was dead, Jin says he was in the water, he asks where Sun is.

8. Miles asks where Jin came from, Daniel says the blast must've thrown him in the water, he's been moving with every flash just like them, Sawyer tells Jin that every time the sky lights up, they move through time, Jin doesn't understand, Jin tells Charlotte to translate, but Sawyer thinks he's talking to Miles, who says Jin is Korean, he's from Encino, Jin talks to Charlotte, she says he wants to know how they're sure his wife is off the island, Sawyer and Miles are stunned that Charlotte speaks Korean, Locke says he's sure, but none of it will matter if they don't make it to The Orchid, Charlotte tells Jin, he asks what The Orchid is, she tells Jin that it's a way off the island, Locke is planing to leave and bring back all his friends, including his wife, that it's the only way to stop the flashes, Jin asks Locke why he would bring Sun back, Locke says because she never should have left.
9. Sun pointing her gun at Ben, says she's spent the last three years thinking, believing that he was dead, Ben says he has proof, if she wants to see it, he'll show her how he knows Jin is alive, Ben says there's someone in Los Angeles, he can take her to them, show her proof, they're the same person that's going to show them how to get back to the island, Kate is putting Aaron in her car, overhears them talking, she gets mad, says that's why Jack was pretending to care about Aaron, Jack says no, Sayid says he doesn't want any part of it, that if he sees Jack or Ben again, it will be extremely unpleasant for all of them, Ben tells Sun to give him thirty minutes, they can be there that fast, and she'll have her proof, or she can shoot him and never know.
10. Walking through jungle, Jin asks Locke how he will leave the island, says that he'll go with him, Locke says it doesn't work that way, that it's a one man job, but he promises he'll bring Sun back.
11. Daniel asks Charlotte if she's okay, if she wants to take a break, if she speaks any other languages, she says just Klingon, Charlotte asks Daniel if what they're doing is going to work, Daniel says that it does make sense, that if all this started at The Orchid, then it's where all of it should stop, but as far as bringing the people that left the island back in order to stop these temporal shifts, that's where we leave science behind, Charlotte gets dizzy, another flash starts to happen, it's dark now, and another flash happens again, they're all in pain because the flashes are happening so close together, it's light out again, Charlotte passes out, nosebleed, Sawyer points out that Juliet has a bloody nose, she says he does too, Daniel asks if Charlotte can hear him, she starts talking to Jin in Korean, in a really frightening voice, then speaking English, she says not to let them bring her back, no matter what, that this place is death. In the Canton-Rainer van, Sun and Jack, Ben driving, Sun says that Ben said they'd be there in thirty minutes, Ben didn't account for traffic, Jack tells Sun that he's sorry, Sun asks for what, Jack says for leaving Jin behind, says when they landed the chopper on the boat, everything was happening so fast, he knew Jin was down below, but they should've waited for him, Sun asks why he's telling her this now, that if she finds out Ben is lying about her husband, he's going to ask her not to kill him, Jack says that after what Ben just did to Kate, if she doesn't, he will, Ben gets mad, pulls the van over, he says that what he's doing is helping them, that if they had any idea what he's done to keep them safe, to keep their friends safe, they'd never stop thanking him, he says that if Sun wants to shoot him, then shoot him, but get on with it, he asks what it's going to be, Sun says to drive.
15. Charlotte asks why daddy can't come with them, asks Daniel if he knows what her mother would say about marrying an American, says she knows more about Carthage than Hannibal, Sawyer asks what the hell she's talking about, Locke says they have to get moving, Daniel says they need to carry Charlotte, Locke says that she'll hold them up, Dan says they can't just leave her, Sawyer says that the flashes are getting closer together, that they'll come back for her, Daniel says no, that he's not going to leave her behind, Charlotte says to go without her, another flash happens, Locke says that they have to move now, Charlotte tells Dan to go, she says to turn it up, that she loves Geronimo Jackson, Juliet says they're running out of time, Dan says for them to go, that he'll stay with her, Sawyer asks if they don't know when the hell they are, what happens if The Orchid isn't around anymore, Charlotte says to look for the well, then they'll find it, they leave.
16. "Let me ask you something, John. If we don’t even know when the hell we are, what happens if the Orchid ain’t around anymore?" Sawyer "Look for the well. You’ll find it at the well." Charlotte
17. Walking through the jungle, they find a partial Orchid building, Locke says they're here, Juliet says what are the odds that they'd end up in the same time is that thing, another flash happens, and it's gone, Sawyer says she just had to say something, but the well that Charlotte mentioned is there, a rope going down, Miles asks how the hell Charlotte knew that it was there.

18. Daniel and Charlotte in the jungle, she tells him she's been there before, Dan asks, she says she grew up there, on the island, and there was the DHARMA Initiative, then she moved away with her mom and never saw her dad again, and when she got back to England, she would ask her mom about this place, but she would say that it wasn't real, and that she made it up, she says that's why she became an Anthropologist, to find this island again, that's what she's been searching for her whole life, Dan asks why she's telling him that, she says she remembers something now, that when she was little, living there, there was this man, this crazy man, and he really scared her, he told her that she had to leave the island and never ever come back, he told her that if she came back, she would die, Dan says he doesn't understand, Charlotte says she thinks that man was him.
19. "I’ve been here before. I grew up here...on the island. And there was this thing...this DHARMA Initiative. And then I moved away with my mum. Just my mum, and I never saw my dad again. And then when I got back to England, I would...I would ask my mum about this place, yeah? But she would say that it wasn’t real, and that I’d made it up. That’s why I became an anthropologist. To find this island again. It’s what I’ve been searching for my whole life." Charlotte "Charlotte, why are you telling me this?" Daniel "Because I remember something now. When I was little, living here, there was this man, a crazy man, he really scared me. And he told me that I had to leave the island and never ever come back. At the well, Locke says he's going down, Sawyer asks what he's hoping to find, Locke says that it's a way off the island, says goodbye to James, Juliet, Miles, says he'll see them when he gets back, Jin tells Locke to stop, he says don't bring Sun back, Locke says he has to bring them all back, that's how it works, Jin asks how he knows, Locke says he just knows, Jin says he'll cut the rope going down the well, that the island is bad, he tells Locke to promise he won't bring Sun back, that he won't bring his baby to the island, Locke says he has his word, Jin says to promise, Locke says he promises, says he won't go to Sun, but says she might find him, if she does, what does he tell her, Jin says tell her he's dead, say he washed up on the shore, that he buried him, he gives Locke his wedding ring, as proof, Locke says okay, that he'll be back as soon as he can, Locke begins to go down the well, Sawyer asks if he's sure he doesn't want them to lower him, Locke says where would the fun in that be, Juliet says if whatever he's attempting to do works, thank you, Locke says you're welcome, he begins to lower himself down the rope, gets about halfway, and another flash starts to happen, Sawyer says to hold on, he takes the rope, Locke drops all the way down, falls down the well, hurts his leg, has a compound fracture, it's digusting.

After the flash happens, Sawyer is still holding the rope, Miles says that he thinks he can let go now, because the well is completely gone, Sawyer begins to dig with his hands, he asks the others for help, but Juliet says they can't help him, there's nothing that they can do. Dan and Charlotte in the jungle, Dan tells her to stay with him, that she's going to be fine, everything will be okay, he says he has a plan, that back at the hatch, he talked to Desmond, told him to find his mother, that she can help them, Charlotte asks how his mother can help them, she coughs, smiles, says she's not allowed to have chocolate before dinner, Charlotte dies. Locke calls for James from underground, asks if he can hear him, can anyone hear him, he hears someone down there, asks who's there, someone comes walking out, it's Christian Shephard, he says hello John, Locke asks what he's doing down there, he says that he's there to help John the rest of the way, holding a lantern, Locke says he doesn't understand, Christian says that he came to see him in the cabin, asked him how to save the island, and he told him he had to move it, he said that he had to move it, Locke says Ben said he had to do it, told him to stay there and lead his people, Christian asks since when did listening to him get him anywhere worth a damn, says the good news is that he's there now, he asks if he's ready to go, Locke says he doesn't know what to do once he gets there, Christian says that there's a woman living in Los Angeles, that once he gets all of his friends together, and it must be all of them, once he's persuaded them to join him, this woman will tell him exactly how to come back, Locke asks who she is, Christian says that her name is Eloise Hawking, Locke asks what if he can only convince some of them to come back, Christian says that he believes in John, says that he can do this, Locke says that Richard said he was going to die, Christian says that he supposes that's why they call is sacrifice, Locke says alright, he's ready, Christian says good, now on the other side of the column, there's a wheel that slipped off its axis, all he has to do is give it a little push, Locke asks for help, but Christian says he can't, Locke gets up by himself, sees the frozen donkey wheel, flashing light, Christian says good luck, Locke pushes the wheel, another flash happens, Christian says to say hello to his son, Locke asks who his son is.

Sun, Jack and Ben get to the church, The Lamp Post, they get out of the van, Ben gives Sun Jin's wedding ring, Sun asks how he got it, Ben says that John gave it to him, Jack says he said Locke never went to see him, Ben says that's true, but he went to see John, says Jin gave it to Locke before he left the island, Sun asks why Locke didn't tell her that himself, Ben says he doesn't know, maybe he died before he had the chance to, he says he's sorry he had to bring her there before he gave it to her, but all those people back on the island, Jin included, need their help, there is a woman in the church, and she can tell them how to get back to her husband, he says that they're running out of time, that he needs her to decide right now, Ben asks if she'll come with him, Sun says yes, Desmond shows up, asks what they're doing there, Ben says he assumes the same thing he is, Desmond asks if he's looking for Faraday's mother too, Ben seems confused, they go into church, Eloise Hawking is there, Desmond sees her, the same woman that told him his purpose was to go to the island, she says hello to Benjamin, says she thought she said all of them, Ben says that this is all he could get on short notice, she says she supposes it will have to do for now, let's get started.

5.02 The Lie

1. Three years earlier--Fridge, beers, man walking, boat, Frank Lapidus, on the Searcher, the Oceanic 6, plus Lapidus, Desmond and Penny are there, Hurley says they'll find out, Jack says not if they stick to the story, Sayid says it could be a risk, Jack says that it's the only way, they have to do this, they're running out of time, they have to make a decision, Sayid says it's a decision that will affect the rest of their lives, he's not taking it lightly, Jack needs to know if they're with him, Kate says yes, Sun nods, Frank, Jack says sorry he got dragged into it, Frank says whatever they decide, he'll roll with, Hurley says he doesn't think they should lie, Jack says they need to protect the people that they left behind, protect them from Charles Widmore, hired a boatload of people to kill them, faked the plane crash, he won't just leave them alone, Hurley asks Penny to call him off, she says she can't, Hurley says the island disappeared, that he'll never find it, Jack says that no one will believe him, they'll think he's crazy, Hurley says not if someone backs him up, they'll think he's nuts if he tells the truth, but if they stick together, they can make them believe them, doesn't want to spend the rest of his life lying, Sayid says he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life lying either, but he doesn't think they have another choice, Sayid says sorry to Hurley, but he thinks they have to lie, Hurley says he will remember it, someday Sayid will need his help and he won't be getting it.
2. "You know what, dude? I'm gonna remember this. And someday, you're gonna need my help, and I'm telling you right now... you're not gettin' it." Hurley

Sayid and Hurley in car, Sayid is unconscious, Hurley is swerving on the road, puts seatbelt on Sayid and crashes, a Police car pulls him over, Hurley asks Sayid what he's supposed to do, the Police Officer is Ana Lucia, asks him what the hell he was thinking, driving like a maniac, asks him why he pulled over, he didn't think, what if she was real, what if a real cop stopped him, they already have pictures of him with a gun and blood on him, she says he has a lot of work to do, needs new clothes, go to safe place, take Sayid to someone he trusts, stay away from cops, do no get arrested, Hurley thanks Ana Lucia, she says Libby says hello, Hurley looks in his mirror and the Police car and Ana Lucia are gone. 5. On island, Rose and Bernard trying to make fire, Frogurt says who cares, any minute the sky can light up, Rose says either help or be quiet, zodiac still on the beach, Juliet says that whatever was with them for the move is along for the ride, Daniel Faraday is back, Sawyer asks where he's been, what his plan is, Juliet says take the zodiac out, find a shipping lane, Daniel says that in order for them to leave, he needs to calculate a new bearing, needs to determine where they are now, in time, Miles says he's going to find them something to eat, Juliet says they'll get water.
6. Hurley trying to wake Sayid up, takes money out if his wallet, goes in gas station, gets a I heart my Shih-Tzu shirt, girl at counter recognizes him, says she knows him from somewhere, she says he's the guy who won the lottery and crashed in that plane, leaves.
7. Kate pulls into same gas station as Hurley is leaving, looks at map, Aaron says he wants to go home, Kate contemplates calling Jack, someone else calls her, unrecognized number, she says she can't believe it's them, they're in Los Angeles, can meet them, be there in half an hour, Aaron asks where they're going, Kate says to see a friend.
8. Ben in hotel, gets box out of the ventilation system, puts it in a bag, Jack comes out of bathroom, looking for something, Ben says if he's looking for his pills, he flushed them down the toilet, Jack says thank you, he was going to do that himself, Ben figured he was, says he's checking out, tells Jack to go home, find himself a suitcase, if there's anything in this life he wants, pack it because he's never coming back, Jack says good, Ben says he'll pick him up in six hours, John's casket is outside in a carpet van, needs to move him somewhere safe, Jack asks if he's dead, Ben says he'll see him in six hours.
9. David Reyes fixing himself lunch, goes into room, puts on TV, previously on Exposé, eats, hears someone knocking on the door, turns TV off, someone at backdoor, Hurley with Sayid over his shoulders.

10. Hurley asks if he's seen the news, if mom is there, David says she's out shopping, that Sayid is barely breathing, Hurley says he was shot by a dart, at the safehouse, Sayid took him there, two guys, shot with darts, they're in danger, not sure exactly who from, doorbell rings, it's the LAPD, Hurley says don't tell him he's there, dad says alright, talks to Police, they leave, killed three people, Hurley says no, Sayid did, dad says call a lawyer, Hurley says they're after him, they can't go public, people are trying to kill them, if they go to a Hospital, they'll find them, dad says they need a doctor, Hurley says he knows what to do.
11. Kate and Aaron in a hotel, Aaron pushes the 31 button in the elevator, they go to a room, Sun answers the door.
12. Ben goes to a butcher, takes number 342, says he has something very important in the van, Jill, needs her to watch it, Gabriel and Jeffrey checked in, Ben tells her Jack is with them, that he's been through a lot, they all have, tells her to keep him safe, if she doesn't, everything they're about to do won't matter at all. 14. On the beach, night, Bernard finally gets fire, but it goes out immediately, Neil Frogurt complains, Rose says to take a timeout, they'll try again.
15. Charlotte tells Dan that she can't shake her headache, Dan says he's sure it will pass, Charlotte says the weirdest thing happened earlier, she couldn't remember her mother's maiden name, Daniel says they've all been under a lot of stress, Charlotte asks if he knows what's happened to her.
16. Miles shows up with a boar, says he found it, it died in the jungle, only been dead three hours.
17. Frogurt says they don't even have a knife, don't have anything, Bernie can't even start a fire, he's not going to ease up, he's tired and hungry, they're screwed, they can't even get fire, gets hit with a flaming arrow. From Lostpedia
    
18. Tons of flaming arrows come their way from inside the jungle, behind the tree line, they all start to run, people get hit with arrows, Sawyer says to meet at the creek, Juliet trying to save people, but Sawyer says they're dead, there's nothing they can do for them. From Lostpedia

The cops are on a stakeout outside Hurley's house, dad says he was in a mental institution, they think that he's crazy enough to come back home, asks Hurley if he is crazy, either that or he's lying to him, Hurley says he's not crazy and has a really good reason why he's lying to him, Hurley's mom comes home, asks why there's a dead Pakistani on her couch, says he's not breathing, Hurley says he is breathing, they have to go. Mom asks why he's all over the news, Hurley says that everything is going to make sense. Hurley's dad sneaks out of the house with Sayid's body in the back of his car.
20. Kate and Sun, Sun says she's in Los Angeles just a few days, shows her picture of Ji Yeon, says she's with her grandmother in Seoul, hopes someday she can meet her, would be nice to see her and Aaron play together, Sun asks if Kate is alright, Kate says she's fine, Aaron is sleeping, says someone knows they're lying, some lawyers came to see her, two men came to her house and asked for a blood sample, some kind of lawsuit, wanted to test to see if Aaron was her son, wouldn't tell her who their client was, Sun says then they're not interested in exposing the lie, they wouldn't come to her in private, they just want Aaron, she needs to take care of them, asks wouldn't she do anything she had to in order to keep Aaron, Kate asks what kind of person she thinks she is, Sun says the kind of person that makes hard decisions when she has to, like she did on the freighter, says that Kate told her to get on the helicopter, said she'd get Jin, but did what she had to do, if she hadn't, they probably all wouldn't died, instead of just her husband, Kate says she's sorry, cries, Sun says she doesn't blame her, asks how Jack is.
21. David Reyes goes to Jack with Sayid, shows him body in back of trunk, said he got hit with some darts, must've been drugs, Hurley at house, Jack says get him to hospital, David says that Hurley says whoever did this will be after them, he tells Jack, when this over, stay away from Hurley, whatever he talked him into, doesn't have best interests at heart, stay away from his son, Jack leaves.
22. Jack goes to the Hospital, St. Sebastian's, calls Ben, says never guess who just showed up at his door, Sayid.

Hurley talks to his mom, Carmen, she asks who Sayid is, thought he was his friend, Hurley says he is, but he has a double life, but he's a good guy, Carmen says he's in terrible trouble, that the news thinks he did it, if news does, everyone does, how could anyone want to hurt him, Hurley says he doesn't know, she says tell his mother the truth, Hurley says they lied, all of them, Oceanic 6 lied about what happened after the crash, they did crash, but it was on a crazy island and they waited for rescue but there was no rescue, smoke  monster, other people on the island, hatches, button they had to push every 108 minutes, never clear why, others had nothing to do with him, DHARMA Initiative, teamed up with others, someone was coming on the freighter, they stole helicopter, then the freighter blew up, six of them were left, that part was true, but the rest of the people who were on the plane, they're still on that island, Carmen says she believes him, doesn't understand him, but she believes him, Hurley says a lot of people died, and now this bad stuff is happened because they shouldn't have lied.
24. "Okay. See, we did crash, but it was on this crazy island. And we waited for rescue, and there wasn't any rescue. And there was a smoke monster, and then there were other people on the island. We called them the Others, and they started attacking us. And we found some hatches, and there was a button you had to push every 108 minutes or...well, I was never really clear on that. And we couldn't go back to the island because it disappeared, so then we crashed into the ocean, and we floated there for a while until a boat came and picked us up. And by then, there were six of us. That part was true. [Whispers] But the re...[Hurley's voice breaks. He takes a second to regain composure.] But the rest of the people who were on the plane? Back on the island, Sawyer and Juliet together, Sawyer steps on something in the jungle, says they should meet up with everyone at the creek, they hear something in the jungle, see people with rifles, DHARMA Initiative jumpsuits, Sawyer asks who they are, if they shot the arrows, three of them, take Sawyer and Juliet hostage, Jones asks what they're doing on their island. Hurley making a Hot Pocket, Ben shows up, he throws Hot Pocket at him, says he knows he's in trouble, he can assure him he's taken care of everything, car waiting outback, Police didn't see him, Hurley says that Sayid warned him, Ben says he's taking him to Jack, that Jack called him, Hurley says he's playing one of his mind games, Ben says they came around when they realized that they all wanted the same thing, to go back to the island, he wants Hurley to go with him, then he can stop hiding, worrying about the stories and the deceptions, won't ever have to lie again, to let him help him, Hurley says never, runs, gives himself up to the Police, says they got him, he's the killer, a murderer, killed four people, killed them all, get him away from there, they cops arrest him, Ben leaves. Sawyer and Juliet in the jungle, Jones says tell him what they're doing, how many of them are there, tell him or he'll cut off her other hand, the first isn't negotiable, Sawyer says he'll tell him whatever he wanted to know, something happened to the island, Jones doesn't listen to him, is going to cut off Juliet's hand, but Locke shows up, kills one of them, Mattingly, with a knife, they turn the tables on Jones and Cunningham.
30. • Did Eloise Hawking know that she would kill her son, Daniel?
• Why would that need to happen? What exactly is Eloise's plan? To prevent Oceanic Flight 815 from crashing or to make sure that it all happens the same way it originally did?
• Is Daniel Faraday really dead?
• Who is Penny's mother?
• What was Daniel Faraday doing in Ann Arbor?
• So, now we can change the future? What exactly are the rules?
• Can Radzinsky please kill himself already? If not, can someone do it for him?
• When will Marvin Candle lose his arm?
• How does Daniel know what's going to happen?
• Was Daniel crying when he saw the Oceanic plane on the bottom of the ocean because he somehow remembers the island and the survivors?
• How does Charles Widmore know that the real Oceanic Airlines plane crashed on the island?
• Why doesn't he tell Daniel that he's his father?

Notes:

• So, Daniel Faraday gets shot by his own mother from the past, Eloise Hawking. Wow, really didn't see that one coming. How about putting that gun that you can't use down, Dan? That will probably make her not shoot you.
• Eloise Hawking is officially the worst mother on LOST.
• Penny, probably not a good idea to leave your kid, little Charlie, with someone you don't know at this point. After all, you are on the run from your evil father and an evil mastermind just shot your husband and then attempted to kill you in cold blood.
• I really thought that Ms. Hawking or Charles Widmore was going to kidnap Charlie.
• I'm guessing that Daniel isn't really dead, considering he still has to record the video to reconstitute the Dharma Initiative with Pierre Chang.
• We finally find out how Daniel lost his memory. Probably not a good idea to zap your brain.
• Now we know that Daniel Faraday and Penny are half brother and sister.
• I'm a little sick of hearing about destiny. And by the way, Ms. Hawking, that's not what destiny means at all.
• I really thought that the journal Dan's mother gives him was going to be full already.
• Daniel Faraday can make time. Yes, yes he can.
• The metronome was awesome.
• Miles, just admit that Pierre Chang is your damn daddy already.
• Juliet obviously gave them the code because Sawyer called Kate freckles and she felt threatened by Kate going with them. Lame.
• The code to the fence is 141717. Not very complicated there, Dharma.
• Now we officially know that Charles Widmore faked the plane crash. Finally. I'm sick of the speculation and guessing games. I just want to know if Widmore or Ben is the real evil one.
• Can't they just get actors that actually have English accents? The accents on this show are so terrible sometimes. Granted, it was a child, and little Charlotte was dead-on otherwise, so I'll let it slide this time.
• Daniel had the same gun that we later see Tom with.
• I guess Jack had time to pack band-aids.
• Now we know why The Swan was sealed the cement like Chernobyl, as Sayid stated.
• I think blowing up the island is a bad idea. I don't like it.
• I thought Ms. Hawking was going to tell Penny that Desmond had to go back to the island. I can't see what's in store for them next if they don't go back to the island.
• Though, so glad that Desmond, Penny and Charlie are okay.
• Charles Widmore said "He was my son too," about Daniel.
• At first, I thought that Richard Alpert got shot.
• I hope that Daniel isn't dead, but it would be kind of cheap if he's not. Who's going to explain time travel to me now?

I enjoyed this episode a lot, though it wasn't on the level of The Constant. I'm getting psyched for the end of this season. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

1.11 All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues

1. Ethan wasn't on the plane. He takes Claire and Charlie.
2. Locke says that he hunted with Ethan, and that he knows more than him.
3. Jack asks "How can one man drag off two people?" whereas Locke asks "Not how, why?"

5. Kate tells Jack her dad was in the Army, Ranger Battalion, stationed at Fort Luis, Washington, that she hiked with him for 8 hours and tracked deer. "It was like his religion."
6. Locke tells Boone he is a Regional Collections Supervisor for a Box Company. Boone doesn't believe him.
7. Christian tells Jack that he was hard on him so he could become a good doctor, that it was all for the greater good.
8. Sayid tells Sawyer about Rousseau and that he heard something in the jungle.

Notes:

1. Maybe it's just me, but the scene where Jack is operating is really creepy looking. Is an operating room usually that dark? The darkness and the shaky camera always gives me this weird feeling.
2. Jack's dad operated under the influence, and was fired because of Jack's confession, which led Christian Shepard to Sydney, Australia.
3. Jack has the crazy eyes again. He needs to chill out and stop trying to fix everything.
4. Charlie leaves the LATE tape from his fingers behind as clues. From Lost Hatch
5. Walt is just a kid, but he knows exactly how to work people.
6. Boone offering to help look for Claire and Charlie is what leads him to the hatch and finding the beach craft, which is what ultimately leads to his death. His Star Trek line and the red shirt is also foreshadowing of his death.
7. During the Jack saving Charlie scene, at first I was thinking there was no way that they'd kill Charlie, but by the end I started to believe that he really was dead, and I think this is the first time this show made me feel emotional. The music is awesome during this scene.
