Initial Reaction to "Sundown"

I enjoyed this episode a lot. It wasn't the best thus far this season, and it definitely wasn't the worst either, but the action in it was just awesome. It also was probably one of the darkest and most disturbing episodes of LOST in a long time (The Man Behind the Curtain always freaked me the hell out.). I strongly disagree with those who are becoming quite frustrated and keep saying that these episodes are "filler" and nothing is really happening. These people need to remember that the reason that LOST drew us all in was its characters. Those wonderful characters lead us to the mythology. That mythology lead us to answers eventually. If I didn't have patience, I would have never kept watching this show. I love LOST for its many questions, its mythology, and the fact that it challenges me to think and to learn and grow as a person, and that is all rooted in the characters. I truly believe that the character and mythology building is going somewhere. Believe me, if it doesn't soon, I will be the first to object. But, the thing is, I've spent six years obsessing over this show. I'm going to let myself enjoy it now. I'm not going to spend what little is left of it complaining. If you want to watch a show that doesn't make you think or leave you wondering, go which HEROES (Sorry to those who still watch it, but it's true.). LOST is still a good show. This is the story that the LOST creators/producers/writers wanted to tell, and I respect that, because for six years they have earned that respect from me. I trust that they will take this where it was meant to go. That's all I have to say about that. Also, Sayid is awesome. Now on with the show...

On the Searcher, night, Jack and Kate, holding Aaron, Kate says don't whisper, when he's out, he's out, Jack says at least one of them can sleep, Kate says it's going to take a while to get used to sleeping in normal bed, she asks Jack what to do about Aaron, Jack says he doesn't know, Kate says been thinking, asks if he knew Claire was flying to Los Angeles to give Aaron up for adoption, Jack says he didn't know, Kate says she thinks they should say he's hers, they can say she was six months pregnant when she was arrested, that she gave birth to him on the island, Jack says there are other ways, she doesn't have to do this, Kate says after everyone they've lost, Michael, Jin, Sawyer, that she can't lose him too, Jack says Sawyer's not dead, Kate says no, but he's gone, says goodnight to Jack, he says if they're going to be safe, to protect the people they left behind, tomorrow they're going to have to convince everyone that they're going to have to lie, if it's just him, they won't go with it, he's going to need to turn to her first, the others will follow her lead, Jack asks Kate if she's with him, she says that she's always been with him. Miles getting water at the creek, brings it to Charlotte, Juliet checking her out, Sawyer says she's been out for ten minutes, Juliet asks Dan if there's something he wants to tell her, Sawyer says why his girlfriend had a seizure, Juliet says to give them space, Sawyer says she's like this because the sky keeps lighting up, that he knew it would happen and didn't say anything about it, Sawyer leaves, Juliet asks Dan if he knew it would happen, Daniel says he thought it might, that he thinks it's neurological, he says that brains have a sense of time, an internal clock, the flashes throw the clock off, it's like really bad jet-lag, Juliet says really bad jet-lag doesn't make you hemorrhage, Juliet asks why isn't happening to the rest of them, Dan says he doesn't know, but thank God it's not.
4. Kate goes to Lawyers office, Dan Norton asks how he can help, Kate says he came to her house looking for blood samples, that he wouldn't tell her who his client was, that she'll give the blood samples, but she wants to talk to his client first, Dan Norton says he'll be seeing his client later today, will pass along the offer, but he's pretty sure what the answer will be, which is no, he says that she's in no position to be making a deal, that he has a signed court order, and he can make her do it, they'll handle the exchange of custody quietly, Kate just wants to know who's doing this, he says that it's time she prepare herself, that she's going to lose the boy.
5. Locke tells Sawyer they have to go back to The Orchid, he says it's where this all started, maybe it's where it'll all stop, Sawyer says it's far away, Locke says they can take the zodiac raft, use it to cut around the island, Sawyer asks if he knows what to do once he gets there, Locke says not exactly, but he knows that Ben used it to get off the island, that he can do the same thing, he believes he can save them, he says this is all happening because they left, that he can bring them back, Sawyer asks who, Locke says, Jack, Sun, Sayid, Hurley, Kate, Sawyer says the boat blew up and the chopper was probably on it, Locke says they're not dead, Sawyer says who, Locke says it doesn't matter, all that matters is they have to come back, he has to make them come back, even if it kills him, asks Sawyer doesn't he want them to come back, want her to come back, Sawyer says it doesn't matter what he wants.

Miles says Charlotte is waking up, at first she doesn't recognize Daniel, but after a moment, she remembers, she asks what happened, Dan says another flash, she passed out, she says she's a bit dizzy, but she's fine, Miles says now what, Sawyer says they're going to The Orchid. Jack checking Sayid, Sayid says take IV out, Jack says he was unconscious for 42 hours, had the equivalent of three doses of horse tranquilizers, Sayid says if he sent Ben to Hurley's house, they have to leave, Jack says Ben is on their side now, Sayid says the only side he's on is his own, Dr. Ariza comes in, asks for a word with Dr. Shephard, asks Jack what he thinks he's doing, Jack says he's treating a patient, Dr. Ariza says he was suspended on charges of substance abuse, emergency or not, he has no business being there, Jack says that he takes full responsibility, Dr. Ariza says the hospital takes responsibility, it makes them liable.
8. Jack gets a phone call, it's Hurley, he asks if Sayid got to him, if his dad dropped him off, if he's okay, Jack says yes, Jack asks where he is, Hurley says he's in LA County lockup, to tell Sayid he did exactly what he said, that he's safe and Ben will never get him now, Jack is confused, Hurley hangs up.

The Little Prince, Initial Reaction

JIN IS ALIVE!!!!! ROUSSEAU IS ON THE ISLAND!!!!!

This was a great episode, however, I didn't like it as much as the last one, Jughead. I think a few key moments were really outstanding though. As soon as I saw the French equipment, I knew it was going to be Rousseau and her science team, and as soon as I saw the body, I knew it was Jin. I was very pleased with those two things.

Questions:

• What is the significance of Ajira Airways?
• Is there another plane crash on the island in the future?
• Who were the people that were shooting at them?
• What is the significance of The Little Prince?
• If Rousseau met Jin when she arrived on the island, why doesn't she remember him in the future? Have Jin and Rousseau ever met in 2004?
• How did Jin survive the freighter explosion? How did he get to the island if it moved?
• Who was after Sayid? Why did the man have Kate's address?
• Is it Charles Widmore who is after them?
• What is Sun doing for Charles Widmore? Is she going to kill Ben?
• What were the documents that Sun received in the package?
• Did Kate come up with the plan to keep Aaron because of guilt?
• What are the significance of the nose bleeds? Are they going to die?
• Are the jumps in time causing memory loss? Is that why Charlotte didn't recognize Daniel at first?
• Why the hell does Locke say that the light from the hatch was nothing?
• Where are Rose and Bernard?
• Who attacked the camp on the beach?
• Were Miles and Charlotte born on the island? Who are their parents?
• Is Miles Pierre Chang's son?
• Lawyers and Lawsuits? How does Ben have so much money?
• Did Danielle Rousseau's science team really get to the island 16 years ago?

Notes:

• It seems as thought the nose bleeds happen first to those who have been on the island the longest. So, in order, Charlotte got one first, then Miles, and lastly Juliet had a nose bleed. Therefore, we know that both Miles and Charlotte have both been on the island for longer than 3 years, because that's how long Juliet has been on the island.
• Kate lives at 42 Panorama Crest.
• When Rousseau arrived on the island, she was with her science team, just as she told her story, with Montand and Robert.
• I really hope we get to see Rousseau's whole story.
• I liked the science where Sawyer saw Kate delivering Claire's baby, Aaron, and the light from Desmond in the hatch. I felt really bad for Sawyer.
• I really didn't like the whole revisiting the love triangle thing going on, especially when Kate said "I've always been with you" to Jack. That was so lame.
• The side of Ben's van says "CANTON-RAINIER Carpet Cleaner." Canton-Rainier is an anagram for reincarnation.
• Please tell me they're not going to run into their past or future-selves on the island.
• Whoever is after Sayid and Kate clearly didn't want to kill them. Otherwise, they wouldn't be shooting at Sayid with dart guns.
• Sayid is so badass. He can move at the speed of light.
• Hurley in jail and calling Jack was fucking hilarious.
• Jack finally gets scolded by the hospital for bringing a dead Pakistani in.
• I guess Sawyer and Juliet are friends now.
• If the freighter was in the radius of the island, it could have disappeared because it's an object, but the bodies from it still could have been there, giving reason for Jin to float to the island if he had survived the explosion.

In LOST fashion, I have a bloody nose right now. I'm not even kidding.

4.07 Ji Yeon

1. Keamy tells Frank Lapidus to be ready, he says he will.
2. Frank brings food to the sickbay, Regina is watching the door, reading a book upside down.
3. Sayid asks Frank why they're being held captive, tells him that they had nothing to do with Minkowski's death, that the door was left open, but Frank says it wasn't him, gives them Lima beans, Sayid says he wants to talk to the Captain.
4. Sun says that Sayid and Desmond left 3 days ago, Jin says that maybe they're returning with the ship, that he wants to talk about baby names, he says that if it's a girl, he wants to name her Ji Yeon, but Sun says that it's bad luck to talk about that, that they should wait until they get off the island first.
5. Sun is packing, she's pregnant, off the island, a Korean dubbed version of Exposé plays in the background, she starts to go into labor, calls 911, thinks that something is wrong.
6. Jin is in a rush, goes into a store, to get a panda, says he has to get to the hospital.
7. Kate and Jack are back, Kate tells Sun that Charlotte knocked her out, that she didn't want to explain why she was on her way to a poison gas factory, she says Juliet lied, she told Jack it was a power station, that Charlotte and Daniel were going there to turn it off, to deactivate the gas, Sun asks if she thinks they're going to rescue them, but Kate says they've never talked about it the whole time they've been there.
8. Sayid and Desmond get a note under the sickbay door, Sayid says 3 days ago at Locke's camp, Ben said he had a spy on the boat, the note reads "DON'T TRUST THE CAPTAIN."
9. Sun introduces herself to Daniel, tells him that she's 2 months pregnant, asks about their rescue, but Daniel says that it's not his call.
10. Jin speaks English to Jack, Jack asks Sun how she's feeling, she says the morning sickness has stopped.
11. Sun tells Jin to do what she says and to not ask questions, that he needs to find food for 2 days, and to meet at their tent in 20 minutes, she says that they're going to Locke's camp.
12. Sun gets vitamins from Juliet's tent, but Juliet catches her, says they should have lasted longer, Sun says they're going to Locke's camp, that she doesn't trust the people that have come to the island, but Juliet says Locke doesn't want them to leave the island, that pregnant women don't survive there, she tells her that she's not lying, but Sun says that Claire's baby is fine, that she feels fine, that she doesn't trust her.
13. Sun is in the hospital, the nurse recognizes that she's one of the Oceanic 6, she tries to take Sun's wedding ring off, she says that they remove jewelery, but Sun objects, they give her drugs, the Doctor says the baby is in distress, he asks if there's anyone to contact, her parents, her husband, she says to get Jin.
14. Jin is getting a taxi on the street, he gets a phone call, the taxi drives off with the panda in the back seat, he goes back to get another one, the man at the store says it was the last one, but Jin asks about the one behind the counter, the man says it's on hold, says it's the year of the dragon, but Jin demands it.
15. Kate draws a map to Locke's camp for Sun and Jin, tells Sun she'll give them a head start, but she has to tell Jack, Sun says she'd tell him herself, but he wouldn't understand. From Lostpedia
16. "Once you hit the stream, you want to head North West, pretty much in a straight line for about a day and a half." Kate
17. Juliet says no, that they're not going anywhere, it's a bad idea, she tells Jin his wife is sick, that they have to get off the island within 3 weeks, or she'll die, if he lets her go, that Sun is in danger.
18. Juliet tells Jin that Sun had an affair, that Sun was with another man, that she thought the baby was his.
19. Sun bitch-slaps Juliet, Jin leaves, Sun follows.
20. Jin starts packing his things, is going fishing, Sun tries to stop him, wants to explain, she says it was a long time ago, but Bernie interrupts, wants to go fishing with Jin.
21. Jin and Bernard go fishing, Bernie says that they're the only 2 married couples on the island, that decisions take longer, he tells Jin that Rose has cancer, that she's sick, she's dying, or at least, she was dying, but she says she's better now, that she says it's that place, the island, that he was sure Rose would want to go with Locke when the camps split up, but they stayed with Jack because it was the right thing to do, that Locke is a murderer, and it's all about Karma, they catch a fish, Bernard says they must be the good guys.
22. Sayid and Desmond are getting restless, they hear someone banging on pipes, Ray comes in, he says that the Captain wants to see them, they leave, see that the helicopter is gone, Rays says that Lapidus is running an errand.
23. "What, you think somebody's doing that? Somebody's just banging those pipes again and again?" Desmond "That's exactly what I think." Sayid
24. Regina has a chain wrapped around her, she jumps ship, Desmond and Sayid try to help her, they call for help, try to go after her.

The Captain introduces himself, Captain Gault, says he didn't want to lose anymore of his crew, that they have cabin fever, that it has something to do with the close proximity to the island, that there's a saboteur on board, the crew is working on repairs to the engine, then they'll move to safer waters, his orders from Charles Widmore, says Desmond knows him.
27. "Some of my crew has been dealing with, what might best be described as a heightened case of cabin fever. I think it's got something to do with the close proximity of the island." Captain Gault

3. Jin's grave indicates that he was born on November 27, 1974, and died on September 22, 2004, the day that Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on the island.
4. Sun is the last member of the Oceanic 6 that was revealed.

Sun goes to see Jin's father, he asks about their wedding, he tells him Jin said he was dead, Jin's father says that he said it to avoid shame, he told him his mother died when he was a baby, she was with many men, she left him, his dad raised Jin himself, wasn't even sure he was the father, he tells Sun not to tell Jin. 28. "Your flight crashed on September 22nd, 2004. Today is November 29th. That means you've been on our island for 69 days. Yes, we do have contact with the outside world, Jack. That's how we know that during those 69 days your fellow Americans re-elected George W. Bush; Christopher Reeve has passed away; the Boston Red Sox won the World Series. [Jack starts laughing] What?" 1. I don't really understand how Danny Pickett went from the guy who said "See you in the funny pages" to Michael when he took blood from him, to so angry toward Kate and Sawyer when they're breaking rocks, even before Colleen dies.
2. I absolutely love the scene where Jack sees the Red Sox winning the World Series. It's probably the only scene, besides where Jae Lee commits suicide, that I like in this episode.
3. Upon initial reaction, I never thought that Sun pushed Jae Lee off the balcony, although I wouldn't put it past her, and can definitely see the symbolism.
4. It's really cool that LOST started the phrase, "That's why the Sox'll never win the Series," and it not only paid off in this episode, but the Red Sox, in fact, did win the World Series the same year that LOST aired and started using the phrase on the show, 2004. Coincidence?
