More Thoughts on "The End" & Entire LOST Series

NOTE: I seriously started writing the following post when LOST ended A YEAR AGO. I kind of needed to take a break from LOST, and mostly this post because it had gotten pretty long (I also forgot about it.). Life kind of got in the way, and I'm just getting back to it now. Please keep in mind that this is how I felt about everything (mainly the awful fan reaction) when it ended, and I'm much more chill about it now. I listened to Bob Marley, because who doesn't like Bob Marley?

Now that I've had some time to reflect on The End and the series as a whole, I've come away with a lot of realizations in hindsight, and some theories as to what I believe actually happened. But, first, I must give some background.

Why did I get into LOST?
Since September 22, 2004, I've been hooked into the story that has been LOST. I remember that summer, always seeing promos for it, because ABC actually did a good job promoting it, which doesn't happen often with any network anymore. I remember thinking how interesting it looked, so I knew I would check it out, at the very least.

Initial Reaction to "Lighthouse"

I think this season is getting better and better as it moves forward. The writers, producers, directors, and actors had all said, before this season started, that it felt a lot like Season One. Well, now we know why. This season is directly paralleling Season One, by episode-centricity, by scenery, and even by line. It's been really great to have that overall feel of Season One back. It reminds me so much of why I love this show. So, let's get on with why I loved this episode, and some (few) things that I have issues with.

Questions & Predictions on LOST SEASON SIX!

I can't believe that it's finally here. I've spent over five years religiously, and almost frighteningly, dedicated to this show. I watched from the first moment it was on the screen. Who would've thought that I'd be here right now and that I'd learn so much from a television show. It feels bittersweet right now, as I am glad that it is ending because we'll get the story that was supposed to be told, but I'm also sad. But for right now, I'm going to be excited, and I am sure that when it all comes to an end, I'll spent a lot of time reflecting on the series as a whole.

Here are some of my thoughts, questions and predictions for the FINAL SEASON OF LOST (!!!):

• What is the Smoke Monster? How was it created?
• Why is it afraid of the security fences but can be summoned from inside the barracks?
• How is the island moving through time and space?
• Why is Desmond special? Will he go back to the island?

• What is Richard Alpert's story? How did he get to the island?
• Why doesn't he age? Why did Jacob do that to him?
• What is the story of the Black Rock? How did it get to the middle of the island?
• What is the sickness? Did Rousseau have it?
• What or who are the whispers?
• Who are Adam and Eve?
• Did the bomb go off? Is it what caused the incident?
• Who is the good guy, Jacob or the Man in Black?
• What are the rules and why must there be a loophole?
• How did Jacob and the Man in Black get to the island?
• When and how was the four-toed statue destroyed?
• Is Aaron special? If so, why?
• What happened to Claire? Did she die?
• Will she ever find out that Jack is her brother?
• Why did Desmond have a flash of Claire getting on a helicopter?
• Will Claire and Aaron ever be reunited?
• Will Claire or Aaron ever get Charlie's ring?
• Will John Locke ever get redemption?
• Is Christian Shephard really dead? Was he on the island before?
• Why did Jacob visit some survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 at an early age?
• Why did he visit some as an adult and some after the crash?

• Who built the frozen donkey wheel?
• What is The Temple for? Who created it?

• Is Sayid dead? Is Juliet dead? Is John Locke really dead?
• Why did it seem as if Jacob was prepared to die? Did he know what was going to happen?
• What is the significance of the hieroglyphs on the island?
• Why did they all have to go back to the island?
• What is the island? Why is it special? Why are they all there?

Things I'm (somewhat) okay with not having an answer for:

• What's Libby's story? Why was she in Santa Rosa? Was she working for Widmore?
• Who and where is Annie? What happened to her?
• What happened to the Hurley bird?
• Why was Ilana covered in bandages and speaking Russian?
• Who killed Nadia? Was it Ben? Did Jacob save Sayid or kill Nadia?
• Was Richard Malkin a fraud or did he know Claire's plane would crash on the island?
• Why do the others always say they're the good guys?
• Why do they kidnap children?
• What happened with Walt when he was with the others?
• What is the magic box?
• How did Anthony Cooper get to the island?
• When did the purge occur? Who was in charge of it?
• Why did Radzinsky build a blast door map if he knew where the stations all were already?
• Did Radzinsky really kill himself?
• Why did Richard say that he watched them all die?
• How did Ben and others get to and from the island so freely and how often did they leave?

Predictions for the Final Season (I know of NO SPOILERS whatsoever.):

• John Locke will get some sort of redemption.
• We will find out who Adam and Eve are.
• We probalby won't find out more about Walt, unfortunately.
• However, I think Walt having dreams about John Locke and what he says to him about him "wearing a suit, and people standing around you, trying to hurt you." are significant.
• I'm almost positive that we will finally get a Richard Alpert backstory.
• (More of a hope than a prediction.) PLEASE let the love triangle be over.
• Desmond will be important. We will learn why he is special and why the rules just don't apply to him.
• I'm starting to lean more and more toward them not crashing on the island, and landing in Los Angeles.
• We will finally find out what the island is and why they are there.
• We will learn more about the bomb going off, if it actually did, and what happens as a result of that.
• I really feel like the whole story is somehow going to come full circle, and I've felt that way since some time late in Season 2. I would not be surprised if the ending to the show was actually the beginning in some form or fashion and we learned that all we've watched was a way of getting everything right and back to the way it's supposed to be somehow. That would not shock me. 
• The two opposing sides have been going on for a long time. There's Jacob and the Man in Black, Benjamin Linus and Charles Widmore, Jack Shephard and John Locke. There will be great significance to this.
• This has all probably been going on for a very long time, and has taken a very long time to get to whatever the end point actually is. All of these people are special because they fix the timeline somehow.
• My biggest hope for the ending is that it will be left with some mystery and it will be something that grows on you over time, becoming more and more significant and mind-blowing as you think about it. I want it to be something that was clearly there all along, but never in your face; something that makes you go back and watch every episode again and you can't believe that you didn't see it.
• I really trust the writers of this show, so regardless of if there will be things I like or not, which I'm sure there will be, I believe it will all work itself out in a satisfying way.
• It will be amazing, scary, awesome, mind-blowing, bittersweet, sad, happy.
• I can't wait!

That all being said, I don't expect every question I have to be answered. I fully expect, and actually hope, that some of the mysteries will be able to live on forever. It will be what keeps people watching and talking about this show for years and years to come, and it is what LOST deserves. I'm sure there will be some things that I am disappointed in, but I have faith and am now, after five years, just along for the journey.

5.13 Some Like it Hoth

1. A microwave reads 3:16, a man says I'm telling you it's a steal at 400, in an apartment, he asks if a woman has to check with her husband, she says that it's just her, a boy calls his mommy, comes in, asks if he can have a quarter for the vending machine, the mother says I told you to wait by the pool, the man says that he thought it was just you, she says that she meant her husband was out of the picture, that it's just her and her son, the man says he doesn't know, that most of the other tenants, they don't like noise, woman says he's very quiet, man says he's going to need two months up front, she gives the boy a quarter, he leaves, she tells him no running, says you hear me, Miles, the boy walks around, a car alarm goes off, he goes to the vending machine, but he has a vision, a feeling, he goes to apartment #4, touches the door, looks down at a rabbit, takes the key out from underneath, opens the door, looks inside, he yells for his mom, mommy, help, they go in the apartment, a man is dead on the floor, the landlord says it's Mr. Vonner, Miles' mom asks what were you doing in here, Miles says that man was all alone, that he was scared, and his chest hurt, he kept calling out for Kimberly, the landlord says that was his wife, that she died last year, asks Miles how he would know that, Miles says that he heard him, mom says what are you talking about, Miles says he's still talking right now, mom says he's dead, Miles says he told her, he could hear him.

Sawyer calls Miles on his walkie, Miles asks where he's been, Sawyer says he needs him to take care of something, the security tapes from the pylon cameras feeds, they need to accidentally get erased, Miles asks why, Sawyer says that he doesn't have time for questions, to just do it, he tells him to look on his monitors to see which ones, asks Miles if he sees them, Miles says he's on #4, asks is that Kate, Sawyer says to just erase it, and if anyone asks, he's off the grid, he's looking for the escape hostile, Miles says you mean your pal, Sayid, Sawyer asks if he's going to help him or not, Miles says yes, he has it, Sawyer says he owes him one. 4. Sawyer tells Kate to go back and find Juliet, see what they know so far, he's going to find Sayid, going to do his best to cover it up, in case she hasn't noticed, he's head of security, Kate leaves.
5. Horace goes into security, asks Miles where's La Fleur, Miles says he's out looking for escaped prisoner, that he must be out of range, tried to reach him on his walkie, Horace says he needs La Fleur, but he's going to have to ask Miles for a favor, Horace says that he's going to bring him into the circle of trust, asks Miles can I trust you, Miles says absolutely, Horace says take this out to Radzinsky, at grid 334, he says that he's going to give him something in return, to bring it back to him with no questions asked, Horace asks Miles does he understand, Miles says they're not supposed to be in 334, he asks isn't that hostile territory, Horace says welcome to the circle of trust, Miles doesn't get the tape, he leaves in a DHARMA van, drives, Radzinsky comes out from nowhere, stops the van, points a rifle at Miles, Radzinsky says what are you doing out here, that he was expecting La Fleur, Miles says La Fleur is busy, that Horace sent him instead, that he's in the circle of trust, Radzinsky says to get out, Miles says he's supposed to give him this, hands him a package, and says that Horace said he had something for him, Radzinsky whistles, calls someone out, he opens the package, men come out of the jungle with a body on a stretcher, Miles asks what happened to him, Radzinsky says he had an accident, Miles asks what kind of accident, Radzinsky says that he fell into a ditch, Miles looks at the body, sees a hole in the man's head, he asks if the ditch had a gun, Radzinsky says it doesn't matter what happened, because knowing that is not his job, that his job is to do what he tells him to, the men cover up body, put it into the back of the van, Radzinsky says to take him back to Horace now, Miles, Miles gets in, then looks at the body in the back of the van, opens up the body bag to see a man, Miles says okay, asks the body, so what really happened. 7. Knocking on a door, Apartment #7, Miles, a teenager, dressed punk, a woman answers, Miles says that he needs to see her, the woman lets him in, a dog is barking outside, Miles' mom is very sick, she looks like she's dying, possibly of cancer, she's in a hospital bed, really sick, losing her hair, Miles sits down next to her, Miles says mom, it's me, she wakes, she says Miles, Miles says that he's sorry that he couldn't make it by sooner, she says it's okay, that he's here now, she asks why did you come, Miles, he says he needs her to tell him why he's this way, how he does the things he does, and he needs to know why she won't talk to him about his father, she says because he never cared about them, never cared about him, Miles says needs to know where he is, she says it doesn't matter where, Miles says it does matter, she says please, Miles says that he has a right to know, she says that he's dead, your father, kicked us out when he was just a baby, he didn't want anything to do with us, so the less you knew about him, the better, Miles says why didn't she just tell him, she says because it was over, your dad has been dead a long time, Miles asks where's his body, she says that it's somewhere he could never go.

8. "I need you to tell me why I'm this way... how... how I do the things I do. And I need to know why you won't talk to me about my father." Miles "He's dead. [Miles releases his mother's hand in shock.] Your father... kicked us out when you were just a baby. He didn't want anything to do with us. So, the less you knew about him, the better." Lara "Why didn't you just tell me?" Miles "Because it was over. Your dad has been dead a long time." Lara "Where's his body?" Miles "Somewhere you can never go." Lara

Miles back at security, Horace on the phone, he says Pierre, if it was about the electromagnetism, they need to know, he says that he just got back, I'll send him out with it right away, Horace hangs up, asks Miles did he bring the package, Miles says package, you mean the corpse, Horace says yeah, now he needs him to bring it to Dr. Chang down at The Orchid, Miles says listen, he's security, if he just needs someone to drive a van, can't someone from the Motor Pool do it, Horace says since La Fleur decided to disappear, he's all he's got, so just bring it out to Dr. Chang, and they'll all call it a day, Miles leaves.
10. Hurley is outside, putting stuff in Miles' van, Miles says he can't, Hurley says he just signed it out, asks Miles where he's going, he says to The Orchid, Hurley says he is too, that he made sandwiches for the crew, ham and cheese, asks if Miles wants one, says and he made his secret garlic mayo, Miles says he's waiting for the neext van, Hurley asks why, he says they're going to the same place, why don't they carpool, he says that it'll help them with global warming, which hasn't happened yet, so maybe they can prevent it, he says wait a second, aks Miles if he's on some kind of secret mission, Miles says to just get in.
11. Juliet at the Infirmary, Kate comes in, Juliet asks how'd it go, Kate says they gave him to the others, Juliet asks if anyone saw them, Kate says she doesn't think so, Juliet asks did James help, Kate says yes, thank you so much for sending him, Roger comes in with a crate of things from The Staff, says he got there as soon as he could, he's out of breath, notices that Ben is no longer there, an empty bed, he says where's Ben, asks did he, Juliet says no, that she's so sorry, she was gone for ten minutes, she doesn't know what happened, Roger says she's his doctor, she's supposed to watch him, Juliet says she doesn't know, Roger says he's going to security, he leaves, Juliet tells Kate, well, here we go.

In DHARMA van, Hurley writes in a notebook, Hurley asks Miles how you spell bounty hunter, Miles asks what he's doing, writing memoirs, Hurley says it's personal, asks Miles dude, did you just, you know, it stinks, Miles says no, Hurley says well it wasn't him, Miles says so roll down window, Hurley does, but says it's not him, it stills stinks in here, it's coming from back there, Miles says maybe it's his famous garlic mayo, Hurley says that's not possible, okay maybe it is possible, tells Miles to pull over, he has to check, Miles says he's imagining things, Hurley says if those sandwiches are bad, people could get sick, yells for Miles to pull over, Hurley goes in back to check, looks through things, smelling, finds the body, says dude there's a body bag back here, with a body in it, Miles says that's traditionally what you put in a body bag, Hurley asks well who he is, what happened, Miles says don't worry about it, and don't tell anyone you saw him, Hurley asks what happened, Miles says his name is Alvarez, he was digging a hole, and thinking about some chick named Andrea, then he felt this sharp pain in his mouth, which turned out to be a filling from his tooth being yanked right out of its socket, and blowing through his brain, then he was dead, Hurley asks how does a filling get blown through someone's head, Miles says let's go, Hurley asks how he knows all of this, Miles says because he knows, Hurley asks but how does he know what he was thinking, Miles says he just knows, Hurley says he can talk to dead people, Miles says please just go, Hurley says don't worry dude, your secret's safe with me, you want to know why, Miles says no, Hurley says because he can talk to them too. Miles with man, looking at picture of boy in a football uniform, says if you don't mind, Mr. Gray, can you tell me what happened to him, he says last Labor Day weekend, a drunk driver ran a red light, Miles asks how his son was buried, Mr. Gray says he cremated him, scattered his ashes around the football field at his school, Miles says that what he does, it's much better if there's a body, Mr. Gray says but his ad said, he could communicate with the dead, any time, anywhere, Miles says he knows what the ad said, Mr. Gray says he just wants him to ask, did he know that he loved him, Miles says it's going to cost extra, Mr. Gray says of course, gives him more money, Miles says okay, now give him his hands, he says to concentrate on Russel, just get a picture of him in his head, asks can he do that, Mr. Gray says yeah, Miles focuses, Mr. Gray asks did it work, Miles says his son says that he knew that he loved him, that he always knew, Mr. Gray says thank you, Miles says I'm sorry for your loss.
17. "For what I do, it's much better if there's a body." Miles

Miles leaving Mr. Gray's house, putting his things in the trunk of his car, Naomi approaches him, asks if he's Miles Straume, introduces herself as Naomi Dorrit, says her employer has been following his work for some time now, and he's interested in following his rather unique services, she says there's a restaurant not too far from there, asks Miles if he wants to hear what she has to say, Mile says yes, absolutely, he leaves with her. 20. On island, Roger drinks a beer on the swing-set, Kate sees him, decides to join him, says hey Roger, asks if he's okay, Roger says let me see, well my son got shot, and now he's disappeared, so I think I'm pretty far form okay, Kate says you know I'm sure things are going to work out, Roger say well thanks for the pep talk, Kate drinks a beer with him, says she just has a feeling he's going to be okay, Roger seems surprised by this, asks what she means, a feeling, Kate says she just doesn't think that he should give up hope, Roger asks if she knows something, does she know what happened to his son, Kate says no she doesn't, Roger says wait a minute, why is she so interested in his son, Kate says she's just trying to help, Roger says if she wants to help, why doesn't she just mind her own business, Kate leaves. In the DHARMA van, Miles and Hurley listen to Love Will Keep Us Together, Hurley writes in his notebook, says he doesn't know why Miles won't just admit it, that he can trust him, he talks to lots of dead people, Miles says so he has conversations with them, like they're his pals, Hurley says sure all the time, sometimes they even play chess, Miles says he actually sees them, Hurley says why wouldn't he, Miles says because that's not how it works, Hurley calls him out, says he wouldn't know how it works if he didn't do it, Miles says what he can do has nothing to do with chatting with ghosts, that it's a feeling, a sense, when somebody's dead, their brain stops functioning, it's just who they were and how they died, Hurley says that's not how it works for him, Miles says good, he's happy for him, Hurley says he's just jealous his powers are better than his, they're here, Miles says shut the hell up and deliver is damn sandwiches.
22. "I don't know why you just won't admit it. You can trust me. I talk to lots of dead people." Hurley "So, you have conversations with them, like they're your pals?" Miles "Sure, all the time. Sometimes we even play chess." Hurley "You actually see them?" Miles "Of course. Why wouldn't I?" Hurley "Because that's not how it works." Miles "Aha! They're at The Orchid, they get out of DHARMA van, Pierre Chang is there, Hurley begins to unload his food, Pierre comes over, he asks Miles what Hurley is doing there, Miles says he came to deliver lunch to the work crew, Pierre says lunch, his instructions were to come alone, Hurley says don't worry, that he won't tell anyone about the body, Pierre asks he knows, Miles says he was rooting around the back, he saw it, Hurley says don't worry he can keep a secret, Pierre says he better, Hurley, because if he thinks working in the kitchen is bad, Hurley says he likes working in the kitchen, Pierre asks well how does he feel about polar bear feces, because if he breathes one word of this, he'll have him shipped off to Hydra island, so he can weigh turds for their ridiculous experiments, Hurley says gross, Pierre says you two, talks to two men who work at The Orchid, tells them to take the package inside, and you, Miles, stay here until he gets back, says think you can handle that, Miles says yes sir, men take the body out of the trunk, Hurley says dude that guy is a total douche, Miles says that douche is my dad. Miles tells Naomi she did say she was taking him out to dinner, Naomi says no, she said she was taking him to a restaurant, they go into a restaurant kitchen, which is closed, Miles says want to tell him what's back here, Naomi says his audition, there's a body on the table, Naomi unzips it, Miles says look, whatever she has going on here, this isn't really his thing, Naomi says from what she understands, if the price is right, this is exactly his thing, she tosses Miles some money, Naomi asks so what can he tell her about this man, Miles goes over to the body, he focuses on it, gets his feeling, he says that his name was Felix, he was on his way to deliver something to a guy named Widmore, Naomi asks deliver what, Miles says a bunch of papers, photos, pictures, of empty graves, a purchase order for an old airplane, Miles says so did he pass, Naomi says she's leading an expedition to an island, and on that island is a man that will be very difficult to find, that's why she needs him, Miles says why, Naomi says this island has a number of deceased individuals residing on it, as is this man was the one responsible for the deceased, we believe they can supply valuable information about his whereabouts, Miles says as much as hunting down a mass murderer sounds really safe, he's going to pass, Naomi says her employer is willing ot pay him $1.6 Million, Miles says when do we leave. Naomi "A bunch of papers, photos, pictures... of... [the whispering continues] empty graves. A purchase order... for an old airplane. [Miles puts his head in his hands. 26. "I'm leading an expedition to an island, and on the island is a man that will be very difficult to find. That's why I need you." Naomi "Need me for what?" Miles "This island has a number of deceased individuals... residing on it, and as this man is the one responsible for their being deceased, we believe they can supply invaluable information as to his whereabouts." 27. Miles and Hurley, Hurley has a sandwich, says so anyway, Miles says he doesn't want to talk about it, Hurley says are you kidding me, how weird is it that your dad is that dude from all those movies, only back then, he was called Marvin Candle, asks if that was like a stage name, Miles says he doesn't want to talk about it, Hurley asks if he doesn't want to talk about it, then why did he tell him, asks how long he's known he was his dad, Miles says the third day they were there, he was in line at the cafeteria and his mother got in line behind him, that was his first clue, Hurley says but all the DHARMA dudes end up dead, Miles says he can't save them, that they're going to get killed no matter what he does, so why bother, Pierre Chang shows up.
28. "But all those DHARMA dudes end up dead. Don't you wanna... save him?" Hurley "I can't save him! They're gonna get killed no matter what I do, so why bother?" Miles
29. Pierre says he needs Miles to take him to Radzinsky at the worksite, immediately, he says you, Hurley, if you say a word, Hurley says polar bear poop, got it, Miles asks what happened to the body, Pierre says what body, the three of them get in the van.
30. Jack cleaning a classroom, Roger comes in, says this room is on his rounds, why is he here, Jack says he figured he'd cover for him, after what happened to his son, Roger says which part, that he got shot, or that someone kidnapped him from the Infirmary, Jack says then what is he doing there, Roger says what else is he going to do, sit around and pray that those idiots find his boy, Roger says so he can get out of there, knocks things over, Roger says he came in here a couple of a days ago with that woman, Kate, Jack says yeah, Roger says you know her at all, Jack says why, Roger says she has some kind of weird thing for his kid, first she shows up at the Infirmary and gives his kid blood, and then when he goes missing, she comes to him and says don't worry, he's going to be okay, Roger says I'm going to tell you something, I'm beginning to think that she's got something to do with this, he says that he should go to Horace, report her, he asks Jack what do you think, Jack says he thinks that he's had a hell of a day, and that's giving him a very good excuse to go out and get drunk, and maybe that's put some crazy ideas into his head, he says that he knows that woman, Kate, that she's his friend, and she would never do anything to hurt his son, Roger says sure, he leaves.
31. "I think, Roger, that, uh, that you've had a hell of a day, and that... it's given you a very good excuse to go out and get drunk. Maybe that's put some--some crazy ideas into your head. I know that woman--Kate. She's my friend, and she would never do anything to hurt your son." Jack

Sawyer goes home, Juliet says he's back, Sawyer says barely, asks if she's ever had one of those days where you feel like a little Dutch boy with your finger in, he notices Jack is there, says what's going on, Jack says Ben's father thinks that Kate had something to do with his son going missing, Sawyer asks why the hell would he think that, Juliet says because she talked to him, tried to make him feel better, Sawyer says why the hell would she do that, Jack says her heart was in the right place, Sawyer says but where was her head, Jack says he had a talk with Roger, doesn't think he's going to say anything to anyone for now, just wanted him to know, Jack tells Juliet thank you, Sawyer says thanks for filling him in, Jack leaves.

Sawyer goes outside, Phil comes over, says hey boss, they have a development, that he better come down to the office, La Fleur says he's been running around the jungle all day, so whatever development he's got, it can wait a while, Phil says he knows who took the kid, La Fleur asks who's that, Phil says you, La Fleur says he's got a perfectly good explanation for that, he escorts Phil inside, asks him if he's talked to Horace about it yet, Phil says no, that he thought that after three years of working together, he'd give him the benefit of the doubt, Sawyer knocks him out, tells Juliet to get some rope. A plane is in the air, Ajira Airways Flight 316, Kate, Sun, Jack, Ilana and Sayid, Hurley, Frank's co-pilot asks if he wants to hear something crazy, he asks Frank if he saw the big guy who got on in Los Angeles, sitting in First Class, the guy with curly hair, a guitar case, Frank asks what about him, the co-pilot says he's one of the Oceanic 6, that the guy has nerves of steel, he survives a crash, now he's flying back over the same South Pacific, Frank says maybe he doesn't believe lightning will strike twice, they begin to experience some turbulence, the co-pilot asks Frank if he's alright, he says he's just fine, in First Class, Hurley tells Caesar to fasten his seatbelt, Frank says oh no, there is a lot more turbulence, the co-pilot says confirms to Frank that the Auto Pilot is off, Frank has the controls, the plane is going down, there's a flash, the plane is flying through the flash, it's dark, they stall, lost power, the co-pilot says he's restarting 1, 2, Altimeter reading 650, come through the clouds and they see the island, Frank says to give him more power, that he can pull them out of this, he says to just do it, the computer repeats "failure," Frank says he's putting her down, the co-pilot calls for a mayday, says they're Ajira Flight 316,  Frank spots somewhere to land, the co-pilot asks if it's a runway, the transmission of the numbers plays over the radio, Frank asks for full flaps, the co-pilot says the gear is down, they're at airspeed 190, that he's coming in too steep, but Frank lands the plane on the runaway on The Hydra island, thought they start running out of runway, he tells them to brace for impact, they crash at the end of the runway, Frank is hurt, he's bleeding, but the other co-pilot has been impaled, Frank gets out of his seat, he exits out of the cockpit, Ilana is passed out, Caesar wakes her, asks if she's okay, she notices that Sayid is gone, but Frank notices Sun is there, she asks what happened, Frank says he doesn't know, he asks her where's everyone else, Jack, Kate, Hurley, where'd they go, Ben says they're gone, they ask gone where, Ben says how would he know.

Jack says he's telling him, that they've been there, living with the DHARMA Initiative for the past three years, Sawyer says that's right, asks how long it's been for them since the chopper, Kate says three years, Miles calls Jin on his walkie, Jin says if he doesn't report in soon, they'll send out a patrol, asks Sawyer what to do with them, Hurley says Jin's English is awesome, Sawyer says what they do is bring them in, back to DHARMAville, they can't be wandering around the jungle with the hostiles, Hurley asks what about everyone else from the plane, Jin asks about everyone else, Jack says they didn't come back alone, that Sayid was on the plane too, Lapidus, and Sun, Jin takes off, says he's going to The Flame, that if a plane landed on the island, Radzinsky will know, he leaves in the jeep, Sawyer says for them to stay put, that he has to figure out what to do with them, how to explain where they came form, Kate asks Sawyer, other than him and Jin who else is still there.
4. Juliet asks Miles if he's seen James, Miles says no, and he's not answering his walkie either, Juliet says that Jin called him this morning, and then James ran off without saying what was going on, Miles checks the monitors in the Security station, he spots Sawyer arriving at the barracks.
5. Juliet goes home to meet Sawyer, who is gathering clothing, asks for his baggy sweatshirt, Juliet asks what's going on, Sawyer tells Juliet that they're back, Juliet asks who's back, Sawyer says Jack, Hurley, Kate, says he knows, they came back, Juliet asks if they're here now, Sawyer says yeah, they're at the North point, waiting for him to tell them what to do, Juliet asks how did they get there, Sawyer says he's not sure, but they said they were on a plane, that he doesn't understand it anymore than she does, but they're here, and he has to figure out a way to bring them in, before someone else finds them and they screw up everything they have there, Juliet says there's a sub coming in this afternoon.
6. Jin drives the Jeep to The Flame, where there's a man building a model of The Swan station, asks Jin if he understands the concept of knocking, Jin rushes in, looks at the monitors, print outs from The Flame computer, the man says hands off, no one handles the gear in the station except him, Jin says he needs to check the radar logs, that he needs to know if a plane landed on the island, the man says so he thinks if a plane landed on the island, he'd be over there building a model, and he wouldn't put out an alert, Jin says check with the other stations, maybe he missed it, Radzinsky says attention all stations, calling from The Flame, checking to see if anyone's seen a plane flying over the island, he asks Jin why a plane is so damn important, Jin says that it just is.

On the beach, Sun is holding Jin's wedding ring, the survivors of the Ajira Airways crash sit on the beach, with the plane parked on the runway, Ilana asks Sun if she's lost someone, says she thought maybe she lost someone on the plane, Sun says no, she was traveling alone, Frank asks for everyone's attention, he says to listen up, he doesn't know where they're at, the radio is dead, so he hasn't been able to call in their situation, but as soon as they figure out that they're not where they're supposed to be, they'll come looking for them, so the best thing to do right now, is to just stick together, and wait until help gets there, Caesar asks where is here, Frank says the island is not on charts, Caesar says there are buildings over there, with animal cages, that down the beach, you can see a bigger island across the water, Ben listens near by, Caesar says maybe he should get some new charts, Frank says right now he's trying to keep everyone safe, they should gather firewood, Sun sees Ben take off, she follows him, Caesar says maybe Frank wants to wait, but he says to search the building, that maybe they have a radio, or some food, he asks who wants to help, Frank sees Sun and Ben leave, he follows after them.

In the barracks, Juliet takes Amy's chart, she's sleeping on a hammock, but Juliet accidentally wakes her up, says she just came to get the sub manifest, she tells Amy that obviously she doesn't want her to be working today, Amy says thank you, Juliet asks if there's a full load, Amy says two recruits dropped out in the 11th hour, that they didn't want to take the sedative, Amy asks Juliet to tell Pierre for her, Juliet checks on the baby, picks him up, asks if Horace and her decided on a name yet, Amy says they're going to name him Ethan, Juliet immediately gets freaked out, gives him to Amy, Amy asks when her and Jim are going to have a baby, Juliet says she doesn't know, the timing has to be right.

Jack, Kate, Hurley waiting, Kate asks Jack if the woman who told him he had to come back mentioned that it would be 30 years ago, Jack says no, she left that part out, Kate asks so what are they supposed to do now, Jack says he's not sure yet, Horace notices Sawyer's back, drives up in a DHARMA van, Sawyer gives them some clothes, he says they're going to be the second batch of recruits coming off the sub, they're pulling in right about now, so they don't have much time, Sawyer says nice suit, Doc, but it's not exactly island wear, Jack asks if he wants to them to say they came in on the sub, asks how that's going to work, Sawyer says that everyone gets knocked out before the trip, so no one meets until they process them, Jack says they need to find the rest of the people from the plane, Sawyer says if there's a plane, that Jin will find it, he says they'll be camping in the jungle for a long time if they don't go with him, that there isn't another batch of recruits due in for six months, Jack asks Kate what she thinks, Kate says she thinks they should listen to Sawyer, Hurley says he votes for not camping, Sawyer says if they do everything he says, they'll be fine, let's move.
13. Jin at The Flame, Radzinsky says he just heard from The Looking Glass, that they're the last station to check in, Radzinsky tells Jin to go home, says that he'll call him if something happens, beeping, something shows up on a monitor, Radzinsky says it's grid 325, the motion sensor alarm has been tripped, that there's a hostile inside the perimeter, Jin takes off.
14. Jin runs through the jungle with a rifle, he comes upon Sayid, he says to stop right there, Sayid is still wearing handcuffs, Jin asks him where's Sun, Sayid says he doesn't know, Radzinsky gets there, Jin says to shut up, get down, Sayid says another word and he's dead, Sayid gets on his knees, doesn't say anything.

At the barracks, a sign says "Welcome New Recruits," the DHARMA van pulls up, Sawyer says they recruits will be going inside for processing, it's where they'll be given their work assignments and lodging, he says to put these necklaces on, and listen up, he says that Juliet put their names on a list, Sawyer says when they get in there, they'll watch a meet and greet video, when they call their name, just smile, step up, take their jumpsuits and work assignments, Sawyer says he has it all worked out, Hurley asks what if they start asking them questions they can't answer, like who was President in 1977, Sawyer says it's not a damn game show, but he'll be in there to get their backs.
18. At the Processing Center, Miles pulls up in a van, calls La Fleur, asks where he's been, says he's been trying to reach him on his walkie, Miles sees Hurley, Jack and Kate, La Fleur says they're the new inductees, that he'll explain everything later, he tells Miles to stop staring, says to tell him what the damn problem is, Miles says it's Jin, that there's a 14-J at The Flame, La Fleur asks what, speaks to Jin, calls him on his walkie, says that he found a hostile, La Fleur asks where, Jin says he was wandering in the jungle, he says that Radzinsky is taking care of it now, La Fleur asks Jin what he's doing in their territory, he says that it's a violation of the truce, Jin says that it's Sayid, La Fleur is surprised, he asks what, says son of a bitch, he asks if anyone else was with him, Jin says no, that he was alone.

At the Long Beach Marina, Sun gets a phone call, it's her mother, she asks where Sun is, she says she's still in Los Angeles, finishing up, she'll be on a plane tomorrow, Ji Yeon wants to say hello, Sun says she met a new friend for her in America, his name is Aaron, Ji Yeon says to come home, she misses her, Sun says soon, she loves her, goodbye. 
2. Sun is watching Jack, Ben, Kate talk, she gets out of car with her gun, Kate tells Ben to leave her and her son alone, Ben says that it's not her son, Sun walks up with her gun, points it at Ben, she tells Kate to move away, Kate is frightened, she asks where Aaron is, Sun says he's in the car, Jack says that he knows Sun thinks she's helping, Sun says if it wasn't for Ben, Jin would still be alive, Ben says he didn't kill her husband, that no one did, because he's not dead, Ben says Jin is still alive and he can prove it. Jin on the beach, with Danielle Rousseau's science team, Montand listening to the transmission of the numbers on his radio, Jin asks Rousseau where she's from, she says they sailed from Tahiti, Jin asks when, she says November 15, Jin says no, what year, she says 1988, she asks why, Jin says he needs to go find his camp, they ask if he was on the island before, Jin asks if they saw a helicopter, Montand says that first it was a boat, then a helicopter, the next thing he'll be talking about a submarine, says he knows which way to go, they're looking for an antenna, they ask Jin if there's an antenna on the island, they show him the radio, antenna, ask him if there's a radio tower, Jin says he must find his camp, because maybe the helicopter went there, Rousseau asks if he knows where his camp is from there, Jin says no, but he does from the radio tower, Rousseau says to go with them to the tower, then find his camp, Jin watches Robert kiss Danielle, Rousseau asks Jin if he's ready to go, who he's hoping to find, Jin says his wife. Walking through the jungle, Montand is listening to transmission still, Rousseau experiences some pain, Robert says that it was a bad idea, she's seven months pregnant, Rousseau says she just gave her a little kick, that it's a girl, Robert says Alexander is going to be a boy, Rousseau says Alexandra is a girl, Robert says to get some water, but Nadine has disappeared, they start to look for her, but Jin hears something, he tells Robert that it's a monster.
5. Rousseau says to find Nadine, they want to look, but Jin says they must go, but they go looking for her anyway, calling Nadine, they find her pack, Robert says to spread out, Brennan, Lacombe, the monster comes toward them, spits Nadine out, Jin says to run, Montand gets approached by the smoke monster, it drags him through the jungle, to The Temple, Robert and Jin grab him, it pulls him underneath, rips off his arm, Robert asks what that thing was, they hear Montand yelling for help from underneath The Temple, Robert says they have to go in and get him, Montand says he's hurt, is calling for their help, Robert says they do not leave anyone behind, they go under, but not Jin and Rousseau, a flash begins to happen, Rousseau asks Jin what's wrong, but Jin disappears in another flash.

After the flash happens, Jin is now alone, everyone from Rousseau's science team is gone, he's still at The Temple, there are hieroglyphs on it, he sees the opening underneath, Montand's decaying arm, he leaves, goes through jungle, drinks from a leaf, he sees a pillar of smoke in the distance, he goes toward it.

At the beach, scattered with things, a fading fire, a music box is playing, bag, bugs, violin, explosives, hut, two bodies that have been laid to rest, Jin hears someone shouting, Rousseau holding rifle, pointing it at Robert, he tells her to stop, she says that thing changed him, that he's sick, the monster made him sick, Robert says that it's a security system, to put down the gun, he tells Danielle that he loves her, that he doesn't want anything to happen to her, or the baby, she begins to raise her gun, but as soon as she does, he raises his gun, he pulls the trigger to shoot her but the firing pin is missing, she raises her gun and shoots him in the head, she sees Jin on the shore, watching, she says that he disappeared, that he's sick too, she shoots at him, Jin runs into the jungle, another flash happens, he falls down a hill, but Jin still hears someone cocking a gun, then Sawyer's voice, they reunite, Sawyer says he thought Jin was on the boat, thought he was dead, Jin says he was in the water, he asks where Sun is.

Miles asks where Jin came from, Daniel says the blast must've thrown him in the water, he's been moving with every flash just like them, Sawyer tells Jin that every time the sky lights up, they move through time, Jin doesn't understand, Jin tells Charlotte to translate, but Sawyer thinks he's talking to Miles, who says Jin is Korean, he's from Encino, Jin talks to Charlotte, she says he wants to know how they're sure his wife is off the island, Sawyer and Miles are stunned that Charlotte speaks Korean, Locke says he's sure, but none of it will matter if they don't make it to The Orchid, Charlotte tells Jin, he asks what The Orchid is, she tells Jin that it's a way off the island, Locke is planing to leave and bring back all his friends, including his wife, that it's the only way to stop the flashes, Jin asks Locke why he would bring Sun back, Locke says because she never should have left.
9. Sun pointing her gun at Ben, says she's spent the last three years thinking, believing that he was dead, Ben says he has proof, if she wants to see it, he'll show her how he knows Jin is alive, Ben says there's someone in Los Angeles, he can take her to them, show her proof, they're the same person that's going to show them how to get back to the island, Kate is putting Aaron in her car, overhears them talking, she gets mad, says that's why Jack was pretending to care about Aaron, Jack says no, Sayid says he doesn't want any part of it, that if he sees Jack or Ben again, it will be extremely unpleasant for all of them, Ben tells Sun to give him thirty minutes, they can be there that fast, and she'll have her proof, or she can shoot him and never know.
10. Walking through jungle, Jin asks Locke how he will leave the island, says that he'll go with him, Locke says it doesn't work that way, that it's a one man job, but he promises he'll bring Sun back.
11. Daniel asks Charlotte if she's okay, if she wants to take a break, if she speaks any other languages, she says just Klingon, Charlotte asks Daniel if what they're doing is going to work, Daniel says that it does make sense, that if all this started at The Orchid, then it's where all of it should stop, but as far as bringing the people that left the island back in order to stop these temporal shifts, that's where we leave science behind, Charlotte gets dizzy, another flash starts to happen, it's dark now, and another flash happens again, they're all in pain because the flashes are happening so close together, it's light out again, Charlotte passes out, nosebleed, Sawyer points out that Juliet has a bloody nose, she says he does too, Daniel asks if Charlotte can hear him, she starts talking to Jin in Korean, in a really frightening voice, then speaking English, she says not to let them bring her back, no matter what, that this place is death. In the Canton-Rainer van, Sun and Jack, Ben driving, Sun says that Ben said they'd be there in thirty minutes, Ben didn't account for traffic, Jack tells Sun that he's sorry, Sun asks for what, Jack says for leaving Jin behind, says when they landed the chopper on the boat, everything was happening so fast, he knew Jin was down below, but they should've waited for him, Sun asks why he's telling her this now, that if she finds out Ben is lying about her husband, he's going to ask her not to kill him, Jack says that after what Ben just did to Kate, if she doesn't, he will, Ben gets mad, pulls the van over, he says that what he's doing is helping them, that if they had any idea what he's done to keep them safe, to keep their friends safe, they'd never stop thanking him, he says that if Sun wants to shoot him, then shoot him, but get on with it, he asks what it's going to be, Sun says to drive.
15. Charlotte asks why daddy can't come with them, asks Daniel if he knows what her mother would say about marrying an American, says she knows more about Carthage than Hannibal, Sawyer asks what the hell she's talking about, Locke says they have to get moving, Daniel says they need to carry Charlotte, Locke says that she'll hold them up, Dan says they can't just leave her, Sawyer says that the flashes are getting closer together, that they'll come back for her, Daniel says no, that he's not going to leave her behind, Charlotte says to go without her, another flash happens, Locke says that they have to move now, Charlotte tells Dan to go, she says to turn it up, that she loves Geronimo Jackson, Juliet says they're running out of time, Dan says for them to go, that he'll stay with her, Sawyer asks if they don't know when the hell they are, what happens if The Orchid isn't around anymore, Charlotte says to look for the well, then they'll find it, they leave.
16. "Let me ask you something, John. If we don’t even know when the hell we are, what happens if the Orchid ain’t around anymore?" Sawyer "Look for the well. You’ll find it at the well." Charlotte
17. Walking through the jungle, they find a partial Orchid building, Locke says they're here, Juliet says what are the odds that they'd end up in the same time is that thing, another flash happens, and it's gone, Sawyer says she just had to say something, but the well that Charlotte mentioned is there, a rope going down, Miles asks how the hell Charlotte knew that it was there.

At the well, Locke says he's going down, Sawyer asks what he's hoping to find, Locke says that it's a way off the island, says goodbye to James, Juliet, Miles, says he'll see them when he gets back, Jin tells Locke to stop, he says don't bring Sun back, Locke says he has to bring them all back, that's how it works, Jin asks how he knows, Locke says he just knows, Jin says he'll cut the rope going down the well, that the island is bad, he tells Locke to promise he won't bring Sun back, that he won't bring his baby to the island, Locke says he has his word, Jin says to promise, Locke says he promises, says he won't go to Sun, but says she might find him, if she does, what does he tell her, Jin says tell her he's dead, say he washed up on the shore, that he buried him, he gives Locke his wedding ring, as proof, Locke says okay, that he'll be back as soon as he can, Locke begins to go down the well, Sawyer asks if he's sure he doesn't want them to lower him, Locke says where would the fun in that be, Juliet says if whatever he's attempting to do works, thank you, Locke says you're welcome, he begins to lower himself down the rope, gets about halfway, and another flash starts to happen, Sawyer says to hold on, he takes the rope, Locke drops all the way down, falls down the well, hurts his leg, has a compound fracture, it's digusting.
